James Jones.

SanFranNowNCGiantsFan : 8/23/2015 4:33 pm
This dude needs to make the team. He was impressive last night. I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes a major factor this season, provided we keep him around. He can play and he knows McAdoo's system. I'd rather have him out there than Preston Parker.
No brainer
5BowlsSoon : 8/23/2015 4:34 pm : link
Over Parker. But what do you do with Washington?
Agreed..
Big Blue '56 : 8/23/2015 4:34 pm : link
Perhaps GB will give us a 5th for him..:)
How is his special teams play?
robbieballs2003 : 8/23/2015 4:35 pm : link
I am dead serious about this. If you are going to make the roster as a 4th WR then you need to play specials. People always bring that up with Corey Washington so why not Jones?

Robbie, this has become a league of "dropping like flies" and so you might have to forego ST participation in some cases to make sure certain areas remain fortified..Imo
He's going to make the team.

He may be #3

at this point. Worried about RR.

I think being flexible and open minded about this is going to have to be the norm if injuries keep mounting. Id like to see 7 WRS if they could do it.
Agree
jeff57 : 8/23/2015 4:45 pm : link
He's better than Parker and Washington.

How is it being flexible? How will he dress if he isnt playing specials? Where are these extra bodies coming from?
They don't want a repeat of last year
BillT : 8/23/2015 4:49 pm : link
with both the WR and RBs where they were left with one good WR and one ok RB. They need the skill positions manned no matter what happens. He's a lock and, for the same reason, so is Darkwa.

Who do you cut to keep Darkwa?
They are not keeping 4 rb. Darkwa is going to the practice squad.
Jones is a lock.

Our #3 head case WR now has arthritic knees.
I really wonder if some of you
robbieballs2003 : 8/23/2015 5:13 pm : link
understand how the NFL works. Jones is a lock? Ok, lets assume he is. Is he dressing on game days? If he is then who is sitting? Who is playing specials? Our starting secondary that is already thin? How many RBs are we dressing every game? 3? Do Jennings, Andre Williams, and Vereen play specials? Where are these skill guys coming from to play specials?
With Jennings and Vereen's injury histories
Lionhart28 : 8/23/2015 5:13 pm : link
they would be foolish to not keep 4 HBs. Unless they think they can sneak Hunt onto the practice squad.
Old and slow and can't play specials
HomerJones45 : 8/23/2015 5:22 pm : link
but because he caught a few passes against 4th stringers, he's a "must roster." Check.
Homer
Lionhart28 : 8/23/2015 5:24 pm : link
Who is Jones really competing with at this point? It's not Davis or Harris, those guys are great on specials. So it's the 6th spot, so Parker, Washington, Talley. I see Jones winning that. I keep rooting for Washington but he's had a brutal preseason and hasn't done much on specials either. Parker is decent on specials but hasn't been good this preseason either. It will be an interesting battle to watch.

You are wasting electrons. He's a 8 year pro who managed to get open for 10 yard passes against guys who aren't going to be on any roster this season and so the herd is all aflutter.
From what I saw, Jones should be the #3 right now on the depth chart
baadbill : 8/23/2015 5:30 pm : link
... his job to lose to RR.
Can we trade
old man : 8/23/2015 5:30 pm : link
an extra receiver and/or a 5th and/or Darkwa for a DB/CB?
When are the 1st cuts?
Also I've asked this Q before with no answer...
ChaChing : 8/23/2015 5:34 pm : link
After Cruz who is playing slot?

I know people don't like PP, but he has done ok as a backup there. After that, is it Harris? Jones? Doesn't that factor in pretty big here? PP also has been a bit more sure handed in the PR game than others we've had, so a fav player type for TC

I feel like Parker has the inside track. JJ's main value outside of production is experience, of which our WRs have very little. OBJ VC RR then PP DH and the last one is up for grabs tho IMO Davis should be in

These receivers should know multiple positions like Beckham did last year. McAdoo will adjust to the personnel that he has. If that means Beckham in the slot then so be it. If it means one of the TEs then alright. If it is Vereen then cool. We have options.
Very true Robbie
ChaChing : 8/23/2015 5:49 pm : link
but we're weighing the pros and cons of each player at the end of the line and we know certain guys are limited one way or the other, so I'd think this would be considered. Not like Washington is going to play slot, just like iirc we tried Barden there. Nor would they want RR in the middle is my guess. Dunno if JJ fits there. And while OBJ / VC can do it but those two are high end exceptions across the NFL

We might actually be thin at wr

Why do you assume he is dressing for gamedays. I never said that. He would be the 6th WR with Davis as the 5th WR who dresses and plays specials. Jones they keep so that if Randle/Cruz goes down they have someone who can step in who can get it done. It's either him or Washington for that spot. I think Jones is more valuable than Washington in that role.

And yes they dress 3 RB for almost every game if you've been paying attention at all. Williams plays ST as does Darkwa.
Jones is making the team unless gb wants to overpay
CGiants07 : 8/23/2015 8:12 pm : link
and trade a 4th or 5th rounder for jones.

OBJR
Cruz
RR
Jones
Harris
1 spot for parker, washington or the uconn wr
It wasn't that long ago that
mattlawson : 8/23/2015 9:44 pm : link
Brandon Stokely was on the team. With his small package. I don't think you should diminish the value of a veteran on this team, with this coaching staff, especially one that knows the OC and performs during games.

For Washington here? James jones is way better. Specials or not.
Bet Green Bay was wishing he was back now
TheShade : 8/23/2015 10:41 pm : link
Not to sound like a dick or anything, but with Nelson out they probably wanted someone they know back like Jones.
Jones, Washington and Talley
HomerJones45 : 8/23/2015 11:08 pm : link
are fighting for the 6th spot, and I am not sure our #6 wideout is on the roster yet.

You guys apparently see no significance in the fact that an 8 year vet from the OC's old team was in the game in the 4th quarter. That screams "expendable." You think the coaching staff doesn't have enough film on him him yet?
