I'm with you - it's surprises me that anyone who even remotely enjoys football wouldn't watch this. You get behind the scenes looks at players, coaches, the way teams truly operate, etc. It's great
"...so I'm gonna name Tom Savage the starter guys"
I've never heard of a safety being different in relation to the front 7 alignment.
There's less to do brain and coverage wise in a 3-4 for a FS, generally speaking anyway. The MLBs in the base 3-4 will provide halves coverage in the hook zones so the FS can really sit in the middle or shade to the strong side and not worry about that area too much, in theory anyway. With 4 LBs in front of you, granted one or all are generally rushing, you have a back 8, not a back 7 and the coverages are less mentally taxing. It's less two deep coverage and more single high, which is again easier to play mentally.
The SS also plays much closer in a base 3-4, you have a true SS and FS in the base alignment and in the 4-3 you get a lot more two deep and halves coverage. Without good communication it can be a nightmare back there as we've seen with Fewell. There is a lot more to read for the safeties and CBs. You do have a smaller more agile MLB in the 4-3 and if you use a Tampa 2 he will assist on deep middle coverage, adding to the confusion potentially. 4-3 more brainy, 3-4 more brawny on the back end.
who has never watched even one second of this show since its inception..:)
BB56 you're a great poster and seem like a great guy, so I hope the tone of this doesn't come off wrong.
But is this supposed to be like a good thing or a badge of honor? I get not watching it (I don't watch it religiously), but your comment reminded me of those people who are seemingly proud they don't use Facebook or something.
Anyway yeah, sorry if that came off as dickish, didn't mean it to be. Just something that always perplexed me.
I just saw the clip posted...I also don't not watch it on purpose I just haven't gone out of my way to realize when it's on.
This kind of stuff is beyond cool to me. Behind the scenes of an NFL football team. With the few clips I've seen I don't think it is necessarily "acted" but I definitely think it makes a difference when you are aware that there is a camera on you at all times.
RE: I am probably the only person in Football America
All I really want is more information and access to "behind the scenes" activities. Which is why I visit BBI daily, read PFT daily for news around the NFL, watch majority of the NFL Draft and listen to NFL Radio on sirus for football discussions over a normal sports talk show, which might only discuss football for just a portion of their show.
So as a fan, I just want that type of access. Which is why I love Hard Knocks. Yes I do know HBO edits a good portion of the series and airs certain storylines they only want featured. Being featured on the show, might also be a handicap for that NFL team dealing with that type of media circus. All that said, I just love how all the behind the scenes of an NFL Training Camp, Preseason and Roster Cut down that we see on this series.
Which is why I also loved NFL Networks, Finding Giants. I just loved that behind the scenes look at pro scouting, especially leading up to the draft.
I just want any and all types of access/information about the NFL but I also understand that some fans might not just care for non-Giants related NFL content.
have the equiptment staff strategically bug the equiptment of various players as storylines continue to develop. The players might not be explicitly told that they are wired but it's rather easy to tell. Those players are quickly outed as "hot" by their teammates who then might avoid making controversial/vulgar comments around those particular players.
Apparently the producers do a better job in off-field settings where their more discreet and hide the monitoring devices in anything ranging from a salt-shaker at lunch to under a table or wherever.
So from what I understand the show does a good job of attempting to foster organic dialogue.
It is a badge of honor to do the opposite from a majority..It's no big deal, but apparently it was/is to a few..Lol..Sorry, If I could I would delete this rather innocuous post..
To the poster who said that one can't be much of a fan if they don't care to watch the program, I'll say this..
All I care about is watching Giants football..I enjoy the Giants' America's games, the Life of Belichick, Parcells and Coughlin..I love watching the Coaches film and rewatching the full and condensed versions of each and every game..
I couldn't care less about Sights and Sounds and most NFL productions save for the ones produced by the Late great Steve Sabol...I haven't watched or cared to watch pre and post game shows unless the Giants win in the playoffs(post game, not pre)..
I haven't watched the HBO and then SHO weekly NFL reviews since Dawson And Buoniconti were let go or quit..
I only listen to Sirius NFL radio and that's it..I have zero interest in what goes on in a lockeroom or how camp is constructed..I was in Albany for all those years..That was enough..
RE: Good Lawd, the reaction to this is kinda cool actually..
...hours on BBI basking in the grandeur of popularity than spend 60min a week for a few weeks a year watching NFL players and staff interact with one another. I totally get it.
Again, I have NO INTEREST in lockeroom or behind the scenes machinations, be it 60 minutes or two minutes..I listed above what I care about..As to BBI, I love the interactions, the back and forth and the details about the game I was rarely privy to growing up..
And I should not have bothered with this thread at all.
That is my bad..People are no more interested in my dismissal of Hard knocks than I am listening to their incessant posts on how much they hate the Redskins or any other team..or Francessa..Or, fill in the blanks..:)
more than one team per training camp. It would lessen the focus (and inevitable ridicule) that falls on the one team that participates...which would likely result in more teams being willing to appear on the show. The Giants produce 3-4 shows that are on local TV that show plenty of similar content (players/coaches wired for sound, players off the field, etc.) Hard Knocks is basically an overblown version of one of those shows with more access.
I'm continually learning about when to comment and when not to..It's an ongoing process..This was a comment I should have avoided..There was no conscious purpose to it..
...they want to get their panties in a bunch because you voiced an opinion different from theirs, that is on them. I don't watch hard knocks either, but I have no need to explain or justify my viewing choices. By posting that I am not insulting or criticizing those who do, if they take it that way, that is on them.
but it is pretty interesting to be in the room when this sort of decision is handed down, to see how it is handled by the coaches. It's honestly not how I thought it would be. I sort of expected maybe 2 one on one meetings, or maybe just the head coach and the two players.
I wouldn't like the Giants to be on a show like this. Must have been really hard to hear that if you're Ryan Mallet.
Have you ever watched Hard Knocks?
They show everything, including cuts and players being told their the starter or they are being benched....
The only things they do not show, are gameplanning, the schemes they are going to use, depth charts and playbooks...
And Here we are in dire straights at DB.
And Here we are in dire straights at DB.
I think Dire straights is a little overboard...
If Charles james was on this team he would be the 4th or 5th corner maybe...
Demps would be the 5th or 6th safety....

Three former GIants DBs have gotten facetime on Hard Knocks this season.

Demps even said it himself "I'm not a 4-3 safety".
Welcome to the club! Wanna learn the secret handshake?
I personally love it no matter what team it is, i like the behind the scene stuff even the fluff of players hanging out after practice...
Neither have I
Yeah, I don't get it. He loves to tell everyone that he doesn't watch it, like it's some badge of honor.
No one cares.

Whoops, didn't see this post. Yeah, this was what I was getting it.
It's neither good nor bad to watch this show, but I don't get bragging about not watching it.

What an odd thing to post.

I also learned something today.
