NFT: How many hours do you workout per week?

RC02XX : 8/27/2015 3:14 pm
We've had a thread on how many movies people watch per year and how many books people read per year. Since it'll be hard to say how many hours/days a person workout per year, let's make it a week. Then we can all brag about how much we workout and shit.

So I workout on average five hours per week with maybe 45 min to 1 hour per session. But I also eat like I'm 20...so I think I'm pretty much on a losing battle...:(

7-10 hours/week, covering 5-6 workouts/week
mfsd : 8/27/2015 3:36 pm : link
which is comprised of some combo 3-5 crossfit WODs, 1-2 spinning classes, and/or 1-2 runs of anywhere from 3-10 miles, plus extra time for warmup before and stretching after

Committing to 1 rest day a week, or 2 when necessary, can be tough but vital as I've gotten older
lately
odunde : 8/27/2015 3:38 pm : link
3-4 times a week in a good week, 1-2 in a bad one

workouts are either 1.5 hours of lifting and cardio at gym or a half hour run followed by some circuit stuff
I go for about 8-12 hours a week

Mix of Crossfit and pure Powerlifting sessions(my preference but need to do conditioning work too).

Hit a 295 # Front Squat PR @170 lbs Tuesday, was pretty pumped on that.
My goal is 6 workouts per week
Section331 : 8/27/2015 3:54 pm : link
@ about an hour per. My actual...? Trying to get back to that level, last few weeks have been good.
5-6

I play MMO's.

You know. Social interaction.

You guys probably wouldn't understand that.

tbonfig : 8/27/2015 4:22 pm : link
I try to do 8ish hours a week.

My problem is, I am always exhausted. Always tired. Always sore.

I've had my share of back/shoulder problems so they usually flare up and keep me out of the gym.

Just turned 30 this year.

Anyone in the same boat?
.
arcarsenal : 8/27/2015 4:24 pm : link
Weight and strength stuff 5x a week, approximately 45min per workout, run every Saturday for half hour or so and then Sunday is rest/recovery.

So.. around 4 hours or so.

I don't think any more than that is really necessary. I'm surprised seeing some of you guys say 2x that. Seems like a lot.
I remember "sore" at 30.
Beezer : 8/27/2015 4:31 pm : link

Sack up, Nancy. It gets better. :)

Depends on your goals and what you do when you are at the gym.
.
arcarsenal : 8/27/2015 4:43 pm : link
It does but there's also something to be said for efficiency.

Unless you're looking to become a bodybuilder, I don't think working out for 2 hours a day is really necessary.

Results have just as much to do with what you do outside of the gym as what you do while you're there.
So based on some of your high number of hours devoted...
RC02XX : 8/27/2015 4:52 pm : link
Some of you guys must be pretty damn fit and look the part.

And I'm with arc...it's all about efficiency these days, especially at 35 with two kids (four year old and ten month old). Don't get me wrong, if I had the time like when I was either single or when I was deployed, I would be working out 2+ hours a day, six days a week. But that ain't happening.
Running, bball, walks, bike riding,

push ups, sit ups - 8-10 hours
4 to 5 times a week

i've been on a good run lately

for the last 6 months or so averaging around 4 hrs per week...maybe even more on the weeks I do the disc golf hike which is 10000 steps in its own right. I haven't done that in a few weeks but was doing those weekly for a while too...

I'm 200 lbs dead even--about 6'4. That's historic for me.

Having a kid definitely changed me lol...I never sit around anymore...sometimes I miss it but I am far better off!
12.5 - 15 hours per week
BlackLight : 8/27/2015 5:14 pm : link
If I have to an ab circuit along with my lifting, it can take me 2-1/2 hours to get through everything.
In the summer probably 4 times a week 90-120 minutes lifting
madgiantscow009 : 8/27/2015 5:18 pm : link
The rest of the year probably lift three times a week and hike once or twice.
Yeah...
RC02XX : 8/27/2015 5:19 pm : link
15 hours per week seems excessive. What's your goal?
Ideally...
Dunedin81 : 8/27/2015 5:25 pm : link
5x a week for 45 mins, 30 strength and 15 cardio, and a 2+ hour run on Saturday. I say ideal because I've done it once or twice in the last several months.
My personal goals right now
Sgrcts : 8/27/2015 5:53 pm : link
are to hit the 1000 pound raw club. I'm at 965 right now(415 DL, 325 back squat and 225 bench, but I bench maybe once a month).

To be fair a lot of the time I spend just futzing around before I actually get to working out.
More

Great goal...but that bench number is a bit low...even for not benching too often. Nice deadlifts though...at 5'11" and 170, I couldn't break that 400lb deadlift mark...385lb was my max but I've had a history of sciatica, so I had to really watch myself when deadlifting.

1 hour each day. 30 minute run, 15 minute walking, 15 minute biking.

I lift at home. I try to walk like 2, 3 miles a day.
I play hockey anywhere from 3-5 times per week

I'm all about promoting population control anyway I can. So you're welcome.
Usually around 5-6, but lately I've been working like a dog and
732NYG : 8/27/2015 8:38 pm : link
have been lucky to get to the gym twice a week. Work schedule is slowing down once school starts back up for me in a couple weeks, so it'll be nice to get back to my normal workout routine.
And always remember: Stimulate don't Annihilate.
732NYG : 8/27/2015 8:40 pm : link
So many people I see overtraining. It really does more harm than good, unless you're juicing and taking in insane amounts of protein to recover faster.
Same as how many books I read per year...
Milton : 8/27/2015 8:43 pm : link
Zero.

But that's gotta change (when it comes to working out, that is, not reading books).
around 4-5 I'd say

back under 200 for the first time in nearly 3 years. Since moving out to the glorious land of Indianapolis I joined a gym that has a lot of stuff other than free weightsfull size Bball court, suspension training, indoor track (not that it's needed now), kettle bells, sledge hammers and big ass tires. It's been keeping me engaged...lifted for football all througout high school (I sucked) and lifted for pussy all throughout college (I sucked even worse at that) and I was getting bored of strength training only

I'm sure that football and hockey seasons, and all the brewskis that come with them, will get my fat ass right back into the 200s right quick
5-7 days a week
bradshaw44 : 8/27/2015 9:01 pm : link
2.5 - 3 hours each of those days. An hour of running. The rest is weight training.

steve in ky : 8/27/2015 9:35 pm : link
Retired now but when I was still working I ranged from never working less than about 55 hours or more than about 70 hours per week. Usually most often was probably about 60 hours per week.
LOL

8-10 hrs per week
Giants2012 : 8/27/2015 9:44 pm : link
Primarily chest/shoulders (bench/Arnold/dips/pull up)

Cardio fast pace walking and swimming

8-12. There are a 148 hours
LauderdaleMatty : 8/27/2015 10:05 pm : link
In a week. I'm 49. But everyone needs to find exercise that makes sense for them.

4-7 hours of JiuJitsu and 3-4 hours in the gym.

The issue is that too many people think going to the gym is exercising. Not always. Especially the big muscle bound guys who can do 5 pull ups.

Optimally
Cap'n Bluebeard : 8/27/2015 11:01 pm : link
Optimally, I train for powerlifting 2 hours or so 4 days a week and do conditioning work for another 20-30 minutes 3 days a week, taking Saturday off so around 9-10 hours/week. I'm currently trying to get to a 365 squat, 315 bench and 500 DL (current numbers 335 Squat, 295 bench and 445 DL).

Unfortunately, since July 11th I have had pneumonia and I sprained my ankle so I haven't been able to come close to those recently due to either a lack of lung capacity (which has finally cleared up) or an inability to even perform the movements (Squat and Bench since early August).

Soon though, just deadlifted for the first time today since late July and it went ok. Hopefully I can up the volume again soon.
By come close to those
Cap'n Bluebeard : 8/27/2015 11:03 pm : link
I mean come close to those workout times, obviously not hitting those numbers.
Lifting and Cycling
Hammer : 8/27/2015 11:07 pm : link
I lift 4 times per week, splitting my body into a chest/shoulders/triceps/abs 2 time per week and upper back/lower back/legs/biceps/abs 2 times per week.

My lifting is completed in about 35 minutes for each session. I superset everything in a "push/pull" manner, never stopping during the entire workout.(makes them aerobic workouts as well as resistance)

I ride my bike either two or three days per week between an hour and fifteen minutes and two and a half hours per ride. Those rides are probably 40% aerobic and 30% lactate threshold.

I've lost 40 pounds doing that, including watching what I eat, in about 5 months at 56 years old
I'm all for achieving goals as many of you have stated...
RC02XX : 8/27/2015 11:43 pm : link
and there are some very impressive numbers. However, in the past few years, I came to the realization that there is no appeal to spending more than an hour working out for me. And I couldn't imagine being at the gym for more than an hour these days (I haven't been to an actual gym in probably three years or so). I'm all about fast hitting workouts these days. Even my heavy days are fairly quick. And if it wasn't for having to be in good cardio shape for my PFT and CFT, I wouldn't be running as much as I do now.

Today's workout was basically five rounds of 115lb clean and press (10 reps) immediately followed by 120 yards of farmers walk/run (55lb and 45lb kettlebells) and burpees (10 reps). Then abs. It was quick and painful...and way south of an hour.
