A while back I mentioned that as the most likely solution to his innings issue in the playoffs. One thought right now is to have him pitch out of the pen 1-2 times when they skip his turn to see how he deals with it. It solves multiple problems for the team...
agreed. Harvey as your #1 conceivably could throw 35-50 playoff innings. He needs to learn to deal with extra time. For such an incredible competitor and great player he does make a lot of excuses when he's off.
I don't think anyone's saying Harvey will use it as an excuse if he struggles and it's nothing to be concerned about even if he does. He's not going to get 10 days off between postseason starts if we make it. It'd be a non-issue.
He may well go out and dominate tonight. Who knows.

Arc,
He's previously complained about it on multiple occasions.
July 5 ""With the six-man and then the day off, throwing last Saturday and then this Saturday is tough," Harvey said. "We're all having to deal with it. It's not an excuse why things didn't go well today. I just have to do a better job of finding a way to get a rhythm throughout an extended period of rest like that.""
Back in May-
Its different, Harvey said about pitching with extra rest. Weve all been going through it. Every single one of us has had an extra day here or there. Dealing with it is something you have to do. I dont think I did a very good job of that. I think were all excited to go back to a five-day rotation. It is what it is.
QO thing will be interesting to follow. If he finishes strong, he'll likely sign somewhere else instead of take the QO and we'll get a 1st. Worst case, if he's good enough to give the QO to and he takes it, we keep him for one more year in his prime and let Dilson rake in AAA for another year.
I'm well aware. But that was because of the 6 man rotation which, at the time, was supposed to be something we went with for a while. He didn't like the idea of the extra day between multiple, consecutive starts. This is not really the same.
And again, it doesn't even matter. He's not going to get "skipped" in October. The excuse part of it is basically irrelevant because he's not going to be pitching playoff games on extended rest.
RE: Nimmo and Cecchini are both in and out of the lineup a lot

No but pretty good odds he's skipped at least 1 more time.
But the games he pitches while the Mets are in the middle of a pennant race are meaningful also. His starts aren't throw away games and he needs to pitch well when called upon.
And again, it won't matter. I don't even know what the argument is. It's not like it's something he has to "get used to" doing or learn to deal with. It's just a particular set of circumstances for right now so that he can pitch in the postseason. Once we get there, this isn't something anyone will have to worry about.
There's a good chance he doesn't even miss a beat anyway.
But I could see Matz displacing Niese if their performance merits it. Mets could also roll the dice and go with the four young studs. Probably September performances will have a lot to do with who gets the nod.
Yeah, there's no way Colon is starting postseason games. The only chance he has (and it is miniscule) of appearing in the postseason would be out of the pen in some capacity. Don't see him being a part of the postseason roster at all, though.
deGrom, Harvey, Niese, Matz should be the playoff rotation. Thor out of the pen.
As soon as it became apparent that the Mets will not be offering him a contract extension I have been praying that this is what happens. In the worst case scenario where he accepts yea you will be paying probably 4 million over market value for Murphy, but realistically you will be able to unload that at the trade deadline provided he is having some semblance of a decent year.
Just look at the contract that mediocre Pablo got (granted with post season success) as evidence that there simply are not a ton of good offensive 3rd or 2nd base players out there. On a team who needs a 3b Murphy would be a logical fit for say 4/48.
I am still irked with the Billy Wagner situation so this would finally be their chance to recoup value off an asset, something they have seemingly been unable to do under previous regimes.
Absolutely agree. But of course that could change based upon how they finish these last five weeks. But it would be great if Matz pushed his way in to the rotation.
goes lights out during September, or there's a rush of injuries, there's no way he should be starting a playoff game for us.
I'd go with DeGrom/Harvey/Niese and let Matz and Thor fight it out for the last spot with the loser going to the pen. If Niese has a bad September, I'd just roll with the 4 kids.
but the bullpen better be ready for that game 3/4 he starts in a postseason series. I trust Matz (or Thor if they send Matz out there) more i think - if for no other reason than league hitters dont have much tape/experience against him.
LOL, I don't know why people always need to get so far ahead. Can we just get into the postseason THIS year first? I am not even remotely worried about the Nationals at this point but things change so fast and injuries can wreck pitchers careers and de-rail seasons.
I just want the Mets to make the most of this year and this opportunity. It's hard to take mentions of a potential "dynasty" seriously when we've still accomplished nothing to date.
to win championship before mentioning a dynasty. With the way the rotation is being set up for next few years, you can say the Mets are positioned to be competitive in the near future.
I'd just like to see the Mets win the world series once. I was only 4 during '86 and don't remember any of it. Seeing the team win the big one and all the celebrations that would ensue afterwards would be enough for this metnut.
winning just one world series won't be easy. teams like the dodgers/cubs/pirates/cardinals are all loaded and aren't going anywhere, and that's just the nl.

I'm not blaming you, it's just the general need people always have to look ahead and fast forward rather than focusing on and enjoying the now.
This stretch of Mets baseball has been the most enjoyable product we've seen in nearly a decade and the potential is there for something even bigger.
Sometimes you almost forget to take in the moment when something special is happening with a team you root for because you're so fixated on the next stop or what's further down the road.
The endless posts about Cespedes are a prime example. Instead of enjoying the guy right now while he's providing us the best, and really only legit 5 tool player we've had since prime Beltran, everyone is preoccupied with his contract and whether or not we can get him to stay.

The Scoop: The blue-chip lefthander, rehabbing from a strained lat muscle, breezed through his most recent start. After one more rehab start, hell be back at Citi Field in time for the pennant run, unleashing his mid-90s heat and a plus changeup as well as a curveball thats developing more shape.
1) When the Phillies were on top a few years ago and the Mets in the cellar....did Philly fans overtake Citified like Mets fans have to CBP?
2) I'm jealous because the Mets get to invade Philly, as do the Knicks (two NY teams I don't like), but in Football and Hockey, the Giants/Rangers have never been able to invade Philly anything like that...I wish the Iggles and Flyers would tank for a few seasons like the Phillies/Sixers do. Every sport where Philly is a rival they never hit rock bottom and I have to deal with a hostile Philly fanbase,
He may well go out and dominate tonight. Who knows.

But if not, getting benched is not always a bad thing. We don't know what attitude problems or maturity issues these guys have.

Cecchini has a hip issue. Originally called a groin issue.

Tuesday or Monday?

will pitch for Bing 1 more time (80 pitches) on Tuesday and then be promoted
Tuesday or Monday?
Lennon says Monday, MMO said Tuesday but that's now been edited out so I'm assuming it's monday

Cecchini, Rosario, Carpio, Hernandez (likely not a SS), Ramos etc
Five years ago, Stephen Strasburg was a once-a-generation SP who threw 97 with wicked offspeed stuff.
Mets now have three of those guys.

Nice post arc. Agreed.
Mike Piazza and Paul Lo Duca caught a combined 1,314 games for the Dodgers but only tweet about the Mets.

Shockingly the Mets medical staff is wrong. ;-)
They must be partners with the Giants docs
LOL.. boy, who saw that coming?
