I think we are pretty much getting back to Flores at SS full time though. Against lefties, Wright and Cuddyer are back now so Murphy likely plays second with Flores at SS, and against righties Flores is the full time SS except when Niese pitches. So I look at it like one day a week off. It's ok.
The regular rest his chronic knee is getting. Give him his days off and maybe he'll produce the rest of the way like he is now. Playing everyday certainly wasn't a panacea for his struggles in the first half of the season.
Cuddyer doesn't have a knee condition. He sprained it on a slide at the end of June. If you check his Early July numbers when he was ailing he was actually red hot then too. From all reports its 100% healed now. I do agree at his age we can rest him more however.

The Mets have won 8 straight series vs. Phillies, their longest series winning streak in team history against Philadelphia.
Red hot Cuddyer over Johnson, but Tejada plays SS for Niese. That's been going on for a few weeks now.
That's fine but then Flores should be playing 2nd over Johnson.
Agreed but as long as it's just one day off, I'm cool with it. It's kind of awesome that today we are bummed Flores and Cuddyer aren't in the lineup, yesterday TDA and Wright rested, the day before Granderson and Conforto. We are pretty much resting 2 awesome players every day and still getting results. Could bode well come October.
The Mets provided an encouraging updated on injured first baseman Lucas Duda this afternoon, as he’s expected to return from the disabled list when he’s first eligible next weekend.
According to Marc Carig of New York Newsday, Duda was diagnosed with a small thoracic disc herniation in his back following X-rays and an MRI. The Mets believe that a rehab plan of anti-inflammatories and exercise will do the trick.
Thanks to a ridiculous power surge from late July to early August, Duda has 21 home runs and an .856 OPS in 113 games this season. Daniel Murphy is starting at first base tonight with David Wright back in the lineup, but Michael Cuddyer also figures to get some playing time at the position while Duda is sidelined.
instead of Thor if we happen to reach the playoffs!! F@#$ that!! Its the playoffs, you run your best out there no matter what! I really hope this staff learned something from the Nats and Strasburg. You don't take anything for granted if you get to October.
If darno can ever stay healthy he'll make an all star team or two. Â
Yes you don't take anything for granted if you get to October.
On the other hand you don't take for granted that you will get to October.
So let's just wait until we get crazy about the hypothetical playoff rotation.
You're right. It's just been mentioned around here like its a forgone conclusion. I'm just hoping this staff doesn't roll that way. It's beyond idiotic.

Um, Thor just got lit up the other night too... I think Niese following Harvey & deGrom is a unique change of pace.

Are you really gonna argue that Niese will give us a better chance to win? Come on.

I would run Thor out there over Niese 10/10 times. Wouldn't give a damn about his road/home splits either. He just posses more talent in his pinky than Niese could ever dream about.
And yes he has gotten hit hard recently, but those stretches happen to everyone.
Doesn't hurt to have a lefty in the rotation either.
Guess we just differ in opinion. I would throw the best I had out there. Thor is the better pitcher. It's what I would do and what I hope this staff does.
Is probably academic because Thor may be in bullpen. And if he doesn't go BP then it will sort itself out over the next month. Whoever pitches better down the stretch. And don't be surprised if Matz gets into that conversation.

I'm just hoping that innings count is not what keeps Thor from starting over Niese if the Mets happen to get to October. I just don't trust Niese, he is just a junk baller lefty. Thor has the talent to dominate anyone on a given night.
That's fine but then Flores should be playing 2nd over Johnson.
Cuddy is hot and is .308 in his career against Harang. And he starts Johnson whos hitting .111 against him.

Any word on Duda's progress? And does he have a projected return date?

They are facing 2 lefties against Boston which probably was what Collins was thinking
Guess what ? You don't know better , hence why you're on your couch

thor needs to limit his innings
what's the problem exactly?
