I have been a Giant fan for over 55 years. I have been a supporter of the current regime but I have to admit I think it might be time to move on from GM and HC. They probably will keep Reese but I blame him for the lack of depth on this team. We are going into this season with a lot of the same issues we have had for the past three losing seasons. The Behr injury put me over the top with the injury issues we continue to have. If you continue to have the same bad results (injuries) changes have to be made. TC loyalty issue is hurting this team.
Poor drafts have hurt us. Reese has done a poor job with FA picks because of desperation moves to fill gaping holes. Beason and Schwartz were damaged goods. Spags cannot work miracles with this group. Weak pass rushers, below average linebackers and a thin inexperienced back end. The talent level is not that of a playoff caliber team.
We are wasting Eli's prime years. We will not compete with the Eagles and the Cowboys. I see us as best case 8-8 and probably 6-10 with our injury history.
Your comments.....
And how did it feel going into 2011 when our best CB, Terrell Thomas, tore his ACL a week before the season began?
nice
Reese took a chance on Will Hill based on his talent (that others are now applauding the Ravens for) but he didn't force Will to hang out with his "homies".
Berhe was injury clean in college - Reese didn't cause his calf injury.
Cooper Taylor was freshman All-American at GT but had to take a time out (and switch schools) because of a heart problem from which he is now fully recovered. That lowered his draft potential. Jerry pounced. He still might be a " hidden gem" but there was no indicator at the time that he had a "toe" problem.
Mycheal is someone I thought was under rated and would be a great complement in future years to Collins, but "stuff" happens.
Hanging on to a vet too long for too many $ is a GM killer (yeah, Jerry has been known to do that); it was Rolle's time to go. (of course in hindsight, we could use 'Trel now.)
My point being if Jerry could see the future he may have made different decisions; but....
If you want to talk about earlier decisions re linebackers and OL I'm with you but he seems to have done a LOT better in recent years in both of those categories.
In fact I like the way the 2's have played. (O'Diggie, Bromley, Hart et al)
Come on! You can do it!
Two and fourteen? Can't I get a two and fourteen? Winless! Yeah, that's what I want to hear!
A little bit more, and they may actually have a shot!
And yet people would rather see blindly and frankly dumb optimistic posts with random capitalization (hi gidie) than sober, reasoned posts from long time fans such as joe.
The parity in this league is crazy. There's not much difference between 10-6 and 6-10. If we catch a few breaks, I don't see why we can't get into the playoffs. And once there, I'll take my chances with #10.
The defense needs to be adequate. If it's a disaster, then all bets are off. Time will tell.
In the event the former happens, everyone goes home happy.
In the event the later happens we get to celebrate Coyghlin's tenure and achievements (maybe Reece's too) while looking forward to setting a new direction (much needed if we fail to win four years in a row).
Everybody here should be all in in the former.
As for the defense the kid they drafted out of UCLA has everyone talking. Ayers was a very good at pressuring the QB last year until he got injured and If Moore continues to develop who knows. Like a previous poster said maybe the Giants are one of those teams that shocks the shit out of everyone. I don't think they are as devoid of talent as a lot of so called experts say the are.
Obviously it would appear their biggest weakness is in the secondary. I think they front seven may surprise some people. If they can keep up their end of the bargain it could help the secondary. I mean they have depth at corner. It's basically the safety positions that is the concern. So as someone already said let it play out and let's see what happens.

Just because he's a long time fan doesn't make him right. I'm a long time fan and yet people get on me occasionally for being optimistic. Why is being negative considered a badge of honor?
You can accept the Giants have issues without wallowing in despair.
Being a sports fan is entertainment, it's not a career. If you can't even enjoy the idea of a football season before it starts, what's the point?
If things play out badly and we suck again, I'll be frustrated and disappointed but what's the sense of getting all bent out of shape in August?
I don't think this team is going to be nearly as bad as some of you other guys think. Wouldn't shock me at all if they won 9 games. Will it be enough? Who knows.
The OL looks improved. The O will be strong. The D is an unknown. The fact that Jason Dumbass-Paul blew up his hand, allows Spags the ability to blitz more, and be creative with fronts as opposed to what we came to love in '07-08 of here are our four best rushers, stop them.
Just enjoy football.
Assuming all 3 get on the field together, Cruz, Randall, ODB is going to be fun to watch.
Could we surprise ppl ? Sure but we just don't have the horses to take this thing down yet.
And I am also pissed that Eli's prime was wasted due to some horrible drafting / signings and Reese really destroyed this roster.
Holy fuck some of you are dense.
I support the OP's position, and am always amazed at the venom people face who express negative opinions about the team.
Yeah, I'd like to see the team that has starter type backups at every position myself.
gi, it happens too often and with regularity to blame it on the OP.
Holy fuck some of you are dense.
Tell me how he hasn't by Unit.
Compared to 07.
OL - worse
RBs - worse
DL - Worse
LB - Worse
WR - Better
TEs - Worse
CBs - Better
S - LOL
2. Top five WR corps
3. Potential stud LT
4. Top corner tandem
5. A pass-catching threat out of the backfield
I think most fans are concerned because running the ball and stopping the run don't appear to be strengths of this team. But it is a passing league and both the offense and defense will be better in the passing game.
I think the loyalty to TC is the only reason this team has been able to win more than three games for the last three years!

Pretty fair although I would say RBs are a push.

RB's are only a push due to the addition of Vereen. The Jacobs/Bradshaw combo are better than Jennings/Williams.
And if Veereen is a true saving grace on 3rd down, then we are actually a bit better.
It is a pretty poor link to say that.
