I have a bad feeling about this season

joe48 : 8/27/2015 8:58 pm
I have been a Giant fan for over 55 years. I have been a supporter of the current regime but I have to admit I think it might be time to move on from GM and HC. They probably will keep Reese but I blame him for the lack of depth on this team. We are going into this season with a lot of the same issues we have had for the past three losing seasons. The Behr injury put me over the top with the injury issues we continue to have. If you continue to have the same bad results (injuries) changes have to be made. TC loyalty issue is hurting this team.
Poor drafts have hurt us. Reese has done a poor job with FA picks because of desperation moves to fill gaping holes. Beason and Schwartz were damaged goods. Spags cannot work miracles with this group. Weak pass rushers, below average linebackers and a thin inexperienced back end. The talent level is not that of a playoff caliber team.
We are wasting Eli's prime years. We will not compete with the Eagles and the Cowboys. I see us as best case 8-8 and probably 6-10 with our injury history.

You might be right about the record, but don't take a chance.

Bash yourself on the motherbleeping head with a hammer.
So don't watch the games.

The way some folks around here post, it seems that football makes them so miserable and the Giants are so doomed to failure that they might as well ignore sports until 2016.

How did it feel going into 2007 not knowing what we had in David Diehl starting for the first time at left tackle (there were people thinking Guy Whimper would win the job in training camp)?

And how did it feel going into 2011 when our best CB, Terrell Thomas, tore his ACL a week before the season began?
so you are throwing i the towel because a 5th round draft pick -

who's never played a game for the Giants is injured?

I always watch the games

I have do not have high expectations. This is shaping up to be the or worse than the last 3 years. Being a realist. FO office should be gone if no playoffs. Forget about the injuries. This show is getting and so am I.
Just taking the safety position...
KeoweeFan : 8/27/2015 9:43 pm : link
Reese didn't cause Chad Jones, considered a "steal" after preseason, to get into an auto accident.
Reese took a chance on Will Hill based on his talent (that others are now applauding the Ravens for) but he didn't force Will to hang out with his "homies".
Berhe was injury clean in college - Reese didn't cause his calf injury.
Cooper Taylor was freshman All-American at GT but had to take a time out (and switch schools) because of a heart problem from which he is now fully recovered. That lowered his draft potential. Jerry pounced. He still might be a " hidden gem" but there was no indicator at the time that he had a "toe" problem.
Mycheal is someone I thought was under rated and would be a great complement in future years to Collins, but "stuff" happens.
Hanging on to a vet too long for too many $ is a GM killer (yeah, Jerry has been known to do that); it was Rolle's time to go. (of course in hindsight, we could use 'Trel now.)
My point being if Jerry could see the future he may have made different decisions; but....
If you want to talk about earlier decisions re linebackers and OL I'm with you but he seems to have done a LOT better in recent years in both of those categories.
In fact I like the way the 2's have played. (O'Diggie, Bromley, Hart et al)
By Mycheal, I presume you mean Mykkele Thompson

If so, I agree with you. The kid was underrated and I think would have eventually become the nickel back. Time will tell whether the Achilles surgery will be totally successful. It prior years, it never was.

but reading this made me feel much better. Can't we get all the press pundits to predict that the Giants will finish last in the division?

Come on! You can do it!

Two and fourteen? Can't I get a two and fourteen? Winless! Yeah, that's what I want to hear!

A little bit more, and they may actually have a shot!
there's a lot of posters here who cannot handle reality when it is

likely to be negative. The Giants have sucked the past two years. That's a fact. They have lost there best defender. That's a fact. There's more reason to be negative than positive entering this seasons.

And yet people would rather see blindly and frankly dumb optimistic posts with random capitalization (hi gidie) than sober, reasoned posts from long time fans such as joe.
as with the past two years
bbfanva : 8/28/2015 4:40 am : link
they really haven't made very many serious moves to improve in the areas that they needed improvement. 6-10 with most of the wins being meaningless draft droppers is a very real possibility.
I had a bad feeling going into '11
SanFranNowNCGiantsFan : 8/28/2015 6:25 am : link
So, who knows?

The parity in this league is crazy. There's not much difference between 10-6 and 6-10. If we catch a few breaks, I don't see why we can't get into the playoffs. And once there, I'll take my chances with #10.

The defense needs to be adequate. If it's a disaster, then all bets are off. Time will tell.
I have a GREAT feeling about this year!
aquidneck : 8/28/2015 7:02 am : link
It's going be a very good year or it's going to be a prequel to massive changes.

In the event the former happens, everyone goes home happy.

In the event the later happens we get to celebrate Coyghlin's tenure and achievements (maybe Reece's too) while looking forward to setting a new direction (much needed if we fail to win four years in a row).

Everybody here should be all in in the former.
yeah

I've been a fan for 44 years. It's difficult to be overly optimistic when we read the daily fatality report. If this group manages to achieve at least 7 wins....I would be shocked. I agree with the above poster. Either they make the playoffs, or Mr. Mara burns the house down. Ignore the f-bombs posted here. They probably talk to their wives and kids the same way.

Beer Man : 8/28/2015 7:37 am : link

But with all the injuries up to this point it really casts a negative pall on the upcoming season. Then again it is being said the offensive line may not be that bad. And with all the offensive weapons at Eli's disposal if that's the case this could be a pretty formidable offense.

As for the defense the kid they drafted out of UCLA has everyone talking. Ayers was a very good at pressuring the QB last year until he got injured and If Moore continues to develop who knows. Like a previous poster said maybe the Giants are one of those teams that shocks the shit out of everyone. I don't think they are as devoid of talent as a lot of so called experts say the are.

Obviously it would appear their biggest weakness is in the secondary. I think they front seven may surprise some people. If they can keep up their end of the bargain it could help the secondary. I mean they have depth at corner. It's basically the safety positions that is the concern. So as someone already said let it play out and let's see what happens.
what a post....

Just because he's a long time fan doesn't make him right. I'm a long time fan and yet people get on me occasionally for being optimistic. Why is being negative considered a badge of honor?

You can accept the Giants have issues without wallowing in despair.

arcarsenal : 8/28/2015 9:40 am : link
Unless the team is just a complete disaster on paper, I always go into new seasons optimistic.

Being a sports fan is entertainment, it's not a career. If you can't even enjoy the idea of a football season before it starts, what's the point?

If things play out badly and we suck again, I'll be frustrated and disappointed but what's the sense of getting all bent out of shape in August?

I don't think this team is going to be nearly as bad as some of you other guys think. Wouldn't shock me at all if they won 9 games. Will it be enough? Who knows.
Two games into the pre season?
djstat : 8/28/2015 10:02 am : link
The injuries at safety are concerning but if Collins plays we should be ok. Don't be shocked if a veteran FS becomes available and can contribute.

The OL looks improved. The O will be strong. The D is an unknown. The fact that Jason Dumbass-Paul blew up his hand, allows Spags the ability to blitz more, and be creative with fronts as opposed to what we came to love in '07-08 of here are our four best rushers, stop them.

Just enjoy football.
@OP
shabu : 8/28/2015 10:03 am : link
Your post is not unrealistic however to give you something to be excited for, I am excited to see the offense play this year.

Assuming all 3 get on the field together, Cruz, Randall, ODB is going to be fun to watch.

Could we surprise ppl ? Sure but we just don't have the horses to take this thing down yet.

And I am also pissed that Eli's prime was wasted due to some horrible drafting / signings and Reese really destroyed this roster.
Reese..

Each team in our division has issues.

Rick5 : 8/28/2015 11:12 am : link
I am definitely expecting to see a top ten offense. If Spags can pull together an average to slightly below average D with this group, it could be an interesting season.

Tell me how he hasn't by Unit.

Compared to 07.

OL - worse
RBs - worse
DL - Worse
LB - Worse
WR - Better
TEs - Worse
CBs - Better
S - LOL
It always amazes me,
Doomster : 8/28/2015 12:05 pm : link
how guys like Chad Jones and Mykkele Thompson, were going to be solid starters....."can't miss" players, without ever playing in a game....
Giants have negatives but also some big positives
Vanzetti : 8/28/2015 1:24 pm : link
1. Franchise QB
2. Top five WR corps
3. Potential stud LT
4. Top corner tandem
5. A pass-catching threat out of the backfield

I think most fans are concerned because running the ball and stopping the run don't appear to be strengths of this team. But it is a passing league and both the offense and defense will be better in the passing game.

I don't see how you can blame TC
nicky43 : 8/28/2015 1:27 pm : link
for the lack of talent and injuries (by your own assessment) that Reese has put on the team and you really can't blame Reese for the injuries.

I think the loyalty to TC is the only reason this team has been able to win more than three games for the last three years!
You always say that Frost. You always say

RollBlue : 8/28/2015 3:59 pm : link
if it's better that last year, which I fully expect, we sure as hell can blame TC for hanging on to PF a year too long. Coaching is huge in football, more so than any other sport. Don't get me wrong, I think TC is a very good head coach - a good portion of his co-ordinators have not been.

RB's are only a push due to the addition of Vereen. The Jacobs/Bradshaw combo are better than Jennings/Williams.
No argument. My thoughts
Jimmy Googs : 8/28/2015 4:59 pm : link
exactly when I calculated "push".

And if Veereen is a true saving grace on 3rd down, then we are actually a bit better.
But..
FatMan in Charlotte : 8/28/2015 5:02 pm : link
the assumption is the roster is poorer because of Reese. Not because of retirements, injuries, etc. But because of reese.

It is a pretty poor link to say that.
