Brown couldn't get off the roster fast enough for many people. Now they want him back?
Hey! I know his name!!!
Amazing isn't it? No fucking clue about whether or not he fits from a football perspective. But hey! I remember him! He can come in and eat snaps for the guys who will make the team. Whatever the fuck that means.
Or, he could come in and play a few downs so a player like Jackson isn't out on the field late in the 4th quarter of a meaningless game just to get hurt.
Brown sucks, but seeing how Taylor is likely to go down again next week, Collins is 2 weeks off of a knee sprain, and Meriweather shouldn't even be here...at least it's worth discussing.

Why the fuck would Brown put himself in that position? Why would he ever entertain showing up just to ultimately be let go? That makes no sense.
You think the Giants are the only team that might call him? Come on.
There is literally no downside to bringing him in. He'll be comfortable playing here, and he did have a solid year pre-injury. He might not be the best cover guy, but he's been a starter in the league before, he's young, and we have absolutely nothing at Safety right now.
BTW, I know nobody wants to hear about this anymore, but fuck you Will Hill. Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you.
I'd absolutely bring Brown in. What is the risk? What's the potential downside? If he's not good enough to start he'll sit on the bench.
It seems that every time anyone discusses bringing any player onto the Giants, there's a shitload of nay-sayers who will tear down the idea. I'll tell you this much - Brown has already done way more in the league than Taylor (though I do have high hopes for Taylor).
What is ok to discuss on a message board about the NY Giants? The Giants are down to street free agents at safety and a safety from last years team just got cut. That's not an appropriate topic? We know he's awful but awful is an upgrade at this point. Of course it's possible the GM realizes that if he let's him back in the building he's going to be the starter no matter how awful he is unless he winds up on IR again.
Discuss away. But when you're exposed as a nitwit expect to get the business.
B, I don't think many teams are coming after Brown... Â
Maybe, just maybe he just doesn't fit the system over there.
He's worth a shot, he always showed good ball sense. In an aggressive system like Spags' he might be very comfortable and be a good man to have around.
You act like Brown would just come running like a lost little Anak after his first kiss.
I'm not saying they won't call him in for a workout. I'm saying he isn't a fit for what this particular defensive backfield needs.
He can't cover anybody over the top and deep. Why is that so difficult to understand?
I don't think he's particularly good. It's just that we literally need bodies. Who knows, maybe he won't want to come back here, but I doubt he'll have too many teams calling him anyway.
He's shown himself to be serviceable in the past. If we can get "serviceable" out of the second safety spot, I'll take it. I get that we need a coverage safety, but I just feel he's one of the more viable options, considering our options are dogshit.
I was speaking more tongue in cheek about them bringing him in to eat snaps...but Brown is likely to sit until someone is desperate after week one.
The fact he was released before the 3rd preseason game says a lot about his value.
But put his value in context in Houston. They have seven. Seven safeties. Brown was actually #1 on their DC. He must've completely fallen off the reservation. And some of you guys want him here?
He was already offered a deal in NY - a one year deal I think.

Need bodies? So sign the first one thrown on the scrap heap? No thanks.
Plus, you already brought in Meriweather for one of the SS spots. I would think other options will be out there during the first 90 chop.

Fair point.
I have no idea why he got cut in Houston. Maybe he's just jumping out because he's a familiar name, but it's strange how he had a good year in 2012, got hurt in '13, then sucked in 14. Maybe he wasn't healed up. Maybe he just got lucky... I'm not sure. But even if they sign another veteran after the cut to 90, I still don't think it hurts to bring him in and see if he could be a useful piece.
“Any time a guy is coming off an injury, he’s always apprehensive about how that injury is going to hold up,” defensive coordinator Crennel said. “But Stevie has been able to get out on the field during training camp. He’s represented himself well and he’s in that competition. I think that he’s a smart guy because he’s got that experience. That’s beneficial to him. He’ll let it play out.”
Brown says he’s “definitely feeling better. At the beginning of camp, I was a little rusty. But I think I’m starting to show them I can still do what I used to do. You have to just put your head down and keep pushing forward.” Link - ( New Window )
the guy played himself right off the roster IMO. Additionally, all of our safeties need live action game reps. We can't afford to sit guys that will be playing, especially on a Defense that they're all still learning. I know we've been bitten by injuries before, but you can't be afraid to play the game otherwise we've lost before we even started.
Now we have guys like Gordy and the Model that can help eat up some minutes, but I think ou r safeties need tons of live action reps.
I tried to find any stories about why he fell from grace in Houston... Â
the Giants have kicked all four of those tires enough.
Would rather see them bring in Craig Dahl (provided he gets released) over Brown, and I don't even think Dahl is that good, but he knows the Spags D and can play specials.
We're probably just as good with what we have. Maybe someone will shake loose from another team. Maybe we can offer a 7th round pick to motivate a team to part with someone who isn't great, but who could help us. I don't think Brown adds anything to our current roster.
but there is no question about the space between his ears....I was a big fan of his last year, until I saw mistake after mistake, in his decision making process....the guy just did not have a clue out there,,,
Maybe the knee is better....maybe it helps him recover from a mistake.....and maybe he is the best that is available out there? I don't know.....but if he would make the team, it just shows you how badly the situation is....
he was good at getting lucky and being in areas to get picks. maybe in spags' defense, if we get a pass rush, the qb will be forced to throw up a few prayers or ducks and he can get lucky again.
non-existent safety depth or after Spags seeing him in practice, you cut him. There is no downside to this & it doesn't preclude the Giants searching the waiver wire on Tuesday & Saturday to bring in someone who they perceive is better!
There is a tendency to think an unknown player is better than a guy like Brown because you have seen him make bad plays. But that is not necessarily the case.
bringing him back. The system will still be zone-heavy. Collins & Merriweather as a tandem does not work for me & although I like Taylor, he is showing up on the injured list way too much to count on. As I recall, his grade on PFF was much better than Demps & Rolle (not saying much), and he did some fine work as a gunner on specials.

No it's not. Did you even read the Preston Parker to DB thread? That shit is straight football genius.
Okay, I thought this was about some thread from last year or something...I didn't realize it was a current one!

Based on personnel I don't see the fit.

I actually expected him to play poorly in Texas just because of past history. I was just thinking(maybe hoping?) anything might help at this point.

Neither can the empty jerseys projected to play now.

Right. Just like JPP doesn't know the D. Giants in same boat with him.
