Sources: #Mets awaiting word on a waiver claim of a reliever. Progress toward an acquisition first reported by @AdamRubinESPN.
He called for seven hit-and-runs on one midseason road trip and the Mets made contact zero times. Adam Rubin added,

@jareddiamond @AdamRubinESPN @AnthonyDiComo Please ask TC why he never puts runners in motion. Please?! Makes no sense.
Source: #lPadres pulled back Kimbrel from waivers yesterday. He is not the reliever the #Mets are trying to get.
Told the potential reliever trade, which is with an NL club, is moving slowly. No guarantee it gets done, but Mets trying.

@AdamRubinESPN are you allowed to tell us what you're hearing?
Degrom coming off his only real poor outing. Want to rebound.
Have to keep the foot on the Nats' throat. Don't want them creeping back to 3 or 4 games out
I'm respecting the wishes of the sources who helped me out. Stay tuned. Adam Rubin added,
And that right there is why and how Rubin is still the best Mets writer...
He should be batting 8th and Flores 5th. Dont know what Collins is doing w the lineup
William Ladson
It will take four to six months for Denard Span to recover from left hip surgery. #Nats #Nationals #MLB
Brandon Nimmo's absence with Vegas was the result of a facial injury. Took ball off nose in batting cage five days ago. Now cleared to play.
Again ...
Ken Rosenthal
Sources: #Padres LHP Marc Rzepczynski is reliever claimed on waivers by #Mets. Timeline on when deal needs to be completed is unclear.
Mets apparently have made multiple waiver claims. Ken Rosenthal reports Padres LH Marc Rzepczynski. I'll heard reliever with another NL club
Anthony DiComo
Rzepczynski, known as "Scrabble" for obvious reasons, celebrates his 30th birthday today. He has a 4.88 ERA. LHH own a .650 OPS against him.
K-Rod is claimed and pulled back on waivers, so he's staying in milwaukee.
if anyone's desperate for a veteran starter, aaron harang has cleared waivers.
Starting to get the sense a deal with happen with Mets. Not guarantee, but looking likely.

@AdamRubinESPN With Rzepczynski or the guy you won't tell us about?
My guess is Murphy never thinks ahead -- if slow roller is hit to me I'm going home ... if laser is hit to me I'm going for 2.
When is Duda coming back?
the offense is a concern, the bullpen is a concern, just have to hope they're on one of their streaks in the playoffs or they'll get bounced early.
Betts, Bradley & Castillo is a very goos defensive outfield. If the Sox bullpen didn't suck as hard as it has all year they would be much more competitive.
Rzepczynski, 30, has a 4.88 ERA in 60 appearances with the Padres and Indians this season, however he has held left-handed hitters to a .257 batting average and a .650 OPS in 84 plate appearances.
Hes another one of those lefty relievers you never want facing a right-handed batter who are hitting .324 against him with an .851 OPS. But you know Terry.

Why would anyone "pay attention lately" to a last place team.
Positive for the game is Colon looked good!
Yeah I think so too which means there's absolutely no room for somebody like EYJ, or maybe even Conforto too.

Heh, should have figured this win would bring out the random Red Sox fan. Joe Kelly doesn't suck but he's not great. A few good starts against bad teams doesn't make him a good pitcher. Our bats have gone cold. Plain a simple. But, hey, if you want to put that feather in your cap...more power to you.
now, if the Mets make the playoffs and get swept in the first series with Torres and EOF blowing saves, then we can wring our hands.
but in the regular season, all wins count the same because the only significance of the regular season is making it past the regular season
Magic number is 29. Just get it to 0!
Source: #Mets acquire Addison Reed from #Dbacks pending physical.
Yoenis Cespedes and Travis d'Arnaud should be off Sunday, with David Wright back in lineup.
"This is not Philadelphia. This is not Colorado. This is not Baltimore." -- Terry Collins on the offensive slip returning to Citi Field.
Terry Collins says Yoenis Cespedes needs a day off because of fatigue.
"Today we looked a little tired," Terry Collins said.

Hearing the #Dbacks will receive a pair of Minor Leaguers from #Mets in exchange for Addison Reed.
He had a 5.92 ERA in his first 25 appearances of the season, but has performed better since a monthlong stint at Triple-A Reno. Since returning to the majors, Reed has a 1.65 ERA (3 ER in 16 1/3 IP) with 14 strikeouts, three walks and no homers allowed.
Reed resembles Clippard in that he can capably handle left-handed batters, which is a particular need for the Mets with recently acquired southpaw Eric O'Flaherty struggling and Jerry Blevins having refractured his left forearm. In his last three seasons, Reed has held lefty batters to averages .210, .219 and then .242 this season.

Addison Reed not a big name but for what the Mets need might be just what the doctor ordered. My opinion of him: can set up but can't close
They weren't looking for a closer, Rich
Probably put him on DL. j/k
#Mets put claims in on lots of relievers this week. Reed was their primary target. Don't expect another move between now and Sept. 1.
Turn off whatever you're listening to. ASAP
Can confirm. No word yet on the return. RT @AdamRubinESPN Source: #Mets acquire Addison Reed from #Dbacks pending physical.

#Dbacks Addison Reed to the #Mets deal obviously not finalized yet as Reed just warmed up the left fielder between innings.
Think the bullpen would be pretty close to stacked at that point.
Man Sandy has literally given us everything we could have ever needed and he hasn't stopped adding talent. Literally every piece we've asked for.
Of course but Im talking about who he would replace in the pen immediately. Would we really cut Torres? Its probably Verrett back to AAA.
It was 40 saves, not 50.
From Anthony DiComo / MLB.com, in part ...
Under team control for two more seasons, Reed will cost the Mets more than $800,000 in September. He is arbitration-eligible for the second time this winter, and is a good bet to earn an increase at that time over the $4.875 million he earned this year. The Mets can either pay him, or non-tender him at that time.
For now, they are interested in what Reed can provide down the stretch and into October. [...]
Reed, ultimately, could become a primary weapon for them against left-handed hitters, considering his career reverse platoon splits. Lefties have hit him at a .242 clip this season, compared to .310 for righties. [...]
The Mets claimed "lots of" relievers on waivers this week, according to a source, but are unlikely to complete any additional deals between now and the Sept. 1 waiver Trade Deadline.

#Mets will send minor league right-handers Matt Koch and Miller Diaz to D-backs for Addison Reed, @BNightengale reports.
It was 40 saves, not 50.
Typo, sorry. What's 10 saves here or there?
#Mets will need to make several 40-man roster moves in coming days -- for Addison Reed, Erik Goeddel (60-day DL) and Eric Young Jr.
But you have to like that he has a lot of closing experience. He is not going to get rattled.
He is also under the Mets control for two more seasons.
He will also replace Torres, so that is an upgrade right there.
Diaz and Koch are most likely destined to be middle relievers if they even make it to MLB. So, this is good deal, all things considered.
#Dbacks Addison Reed walked from bullpen to dugout with rest of relievers postgame.
Absolutely.
Anyone who thinks this race is over is in for a rude awakening.
#Dbacks Addison Reed says all he knows is what he's seen on Twitter.
Steve Gilbert
Did say if there is a trade to the #Mets it would be "awesome" to pitch in a pennant race.
Steve Gilbert
#Dbacks Reed on #Mets deal: "Obviously theres rumors out there and you guys obviously know about those rumors, but nothing is official."
Anthony DiComo
#Mets will send Matt Koch, Miller Diaz to AZ in Reed deal, @BNightengale reports. Koch was Mets' No. 27 prospect, a reliever. Diaz unranked.
They still have a rotation that could pull that off...Scherzer, Strasburg, Gio and Zimmermann are all excellent pitchers when going well. They also get to play Atlanta, Philly and Miami a lot in September too. It's not over yet. Win tomorrow and get healthy on the Phils while the Nats have to face the Cards
Like this Addison Reed move. Shores up the bullpen even further. Tomorrow's a big game.
Heard same as @MarcCarig: #Mets unlikely to get Rzepzcynski despite being awarded claim. Reason unclear, but he is only LH in #Padres pen.
Trading Rzepczynski would save #Padres less than $500K. Sometimes teams prefer to play it out rather than take back a meager return.
