Yeah I think so too which means there's absolutely no room for somebody like EYJ, or maybe even Conforto too.

Have not been paying attention lately. Joe Kelly has been much better over his last few starts. JBJ has been crushing the ball since his most recent call up. Shaw may be a mirage at first but he hasbeenmuch better than the sucking hole in the lineup that was Mike Napoli. Even the fat man at third has been better in the second half.

Betts, Bradley & Castillo is a very goos defensive outfield. If the Sox bullpen didn't suck as hard as it has all year they would be much more competitive.

Heh, should have figured this win would bring out the random Red Sox fan. Joe Kelly doesn't suck but he's not great. A few good starts against bad teams doesn't make him a good pitcher. Our bats have gone cold. Plain a simple. But, hey, if you want to put that feather in your cap...more power to you.
the only thing that matters is making the playoffs
Vanzetti : 8/29/2015 7:13 pm : link
doesn't matter who you beat or how you get there

now, if the Mets make the playoffs and get swept in the first series with Torres and EOF blowing saves, then we can wring our hands.

but in the regular season, all wins count the same because the only significance of the regular season is making it past the regular season
You win some

Bartolo Colon fine to pitch Monday vs. Phillies. Was only going to get 15 pitches during game. Only needed 11.

Yoenis Cespedes and Travis d'Arnaud should be off Sunday, with David Wright back in lineup.

"This is not Philadelphia. This is not Colorado. This is not Baltimore." -- Terry Collins on the offensive slip returning to Citi Field.

Terry Collins says Yoenis Cespedes needs a day off because of fatigue.

"Today we looked a little tired," Terry Collins said.

Hearing the #Dbacks will receive a pair of Minor Leaguers from #Mets in exchange for Addison Reed.
Rubin ... in part ...
sphinx : 8/29/2015 7:56 pm : link
Reed had cleared waivers earlier this month, making him eligible to be traded to any club.

He had a 5.92 ERA in his first 25 appearances of the season, but has performed better since a monthlong stint at Triple-A Reno. Since returning to the majors, Reed has a 1.65 ERA (3 ER in 16 1/3 IP) with 14 strikeouts, three walks and no homers allowed.

Reed resembles Clippard in that he can capably handle left-handed batters, which is a particular need for the Mets with recently acquired southpaw Eric O'Flaherty struggling and Jerry Blevins having refractured his left forearm. In his last three seasons, Reed has held lefty batters to averages .210, .219 and then .242 this season.

Addison Reed not a big name but for what the Mets need might be just what the doctor ordered. My opinion of him: can set up but can't close

They weren't looking for a closer, Rich

Why even mention his ability to close?

#Mets put claims in on lots of relievers this week. Reed was their primary target. Don't expect another move between now and Sept. 1.

Can confirm. No word yet on the return. RT @AdamRubinESPN Source: #Mets acquire Addison Reed from #Dbacks pending physical.

Well Reed started out rough but
ZGiants98 : 8/29/2015 9:17 pm : link
has been outstanding recently. Even being up and down, Reed has an FIP of 3.12 on the season has been worth 0.6 WAR on the season. Definitely a nice pickup.
Still owed 1.2 Million the rest of the year
ZGiants98 : 8/29/2015 9:19 pm : link
So now the payroll on the season is up around 117 million. He's under control for 3 more years so I fear we gave up something decent.

#Dbacks Addison Reed to the #Mets deal obviously not finalized yet as Reed just warmed up the left fielder between innings.

Addison Reed
ZGiants98 : 8/29/2015 9:28 pm : link
was the Dbacks closer heading into the year. This is a nice move.
2012, 13, 14
sphinx : 8/29/2015 9:35 pm : link
Reed had 29, 50, 32 saves for the White Sox and Dbacks. But also 18 total blown saves. But again, Mets aren't looking for a closer at this point.

Yeah his 2013
ZGiants98 : 8/29/2015 9:38 pm : link
was unreal for Sox.
Ok so assuming the deals go down
ZGiants98 : 8/29/2015 9:41 pm : link
Marc Rzepczynski replaces EOF and Addison Reed replaces Carlos Torres or Verrett?

Think the bullpen would be pretty close to stacked at that point.
he would effectively replace

Im digging "Scrabble" too

much better than EOF and having a very nice year especially as a LOOGY.

Man Sandy has literally given us everything we could have ever needed and he hasn't stopped adding talent. Literally every piece we've asked for.

Of course but Im talking about who he would replace in the pen immediately. Would we really cut Torres? Its probably Verrett back to AAA.

It was 40 saves, not 50.
I don't know that
sphinx : 8/29/2015 9:54 pm : link
they're getting Rzepczynski.

From Anthony DiComo / MLB.com, in part ...

Under team control for two more seasons, Reed will cost the Mets more than $800,000 in September. He is arbitration-eligible for the second time this winter, and is a good bet to earn an increase at that time over the $4.875 million he earned this year. The Mets can either pay him, or non-tender him at that time.

For now, they are interested in what Reed can provide down the stretch and into October. [...]

Reed, ultimately, could become a primary weapon for them against left-handed hitters, considering his career reverse platoon splits. Lefties have hit him at a .242 clip this season, compared to .310 for righties. [...]

The Mets claimed "lots of" relievers on waivers this week, according to a source, but are unlikely to complete any additional deals between now and the Sept. 1 waiver Trade Deadline.

#Mets will send minor league right-handers Matt Koch and Miller Diaz to D-backs for Addison Reed, @BNightengale reports.

Typo, sorry. What's 10 saves here or there?

Koch and Diaz
ZGiants98 : 8/29/2015 9:58 pm : link
thats a good deal. Our secondary pitching depth keeps getting thinner but Koch was a future reliever at best anyway.

#Mets will need to make several 40-man roster moves in coming days -- for Addison Reed, Erik Goeddel (60-day DL) and Eric Young Jr.

He has actually not been very good
Vanzetti : 8/29/2015 10:29 pm : link
WHIP of 1.50. That's bad for a reliever. And yes, it's nice, that he can get lefties but RH are batting .310 off him.

But you have to like that he has a lot of closing experience. He is not going to get rattled.

He is also under the Mets control for two more seasons.

He will also replace Torres, so that is an upgrade right there.

Diaz and Koch are most likely destined to be middle relievers if they even make it to MLB. So, this is good deal, all things considered.
His arbitration number was high because he was a closer
Vanzetti : 8/29/2015 10:32 pm : link
it's not likely to go up that much this year and they can always non-tendered him if he sucks
Vanzetti
ZGiants98 : 8/29/2015 10:36 pm : link
Check his WHIP after the all-star break. He has been throwing a splitter since his return and has been getting results. His second half has been MUCH better than his first.
Koch and Diaz
ZGiants98 : 8/29/2015 10:38 pm : link
were both likely 40 man casualties next year. Diaz would have been a minor league free agent had he not been added. Been in the system for 6 years.
Reed is 26
ZGiants98 : 8/29/2015 10:40 pm : link
and is still topping out at 95 MPH. The guy has a ton of closing experience. Huge second half so far. Think its a real nice move.
