the crazy thing is that no one really knew it happened unless you were directly involved.
From where I was sitting....this all happened right when Arod stepped out of the dugout to pinch hit in the 7th. The place erupted with half cheering and the other half booing. So the place was really loud.
So before Arod even started getting loose I noticed the wires supporting the backstop and the backstop screen were shaking violently, which I thought was very odd, because I thought to myself the crowd noise wouldn't do that.
So about 5 minutes after this I got an update on my phone saying someone at the game had fallen from the top deck. It was surreal...I had to do a double take and re-read it.
So that's when I put it together that someone had fallen and hit the wires holding the backstop on the way down. It had to be 50-60ft fall...at least.
Just sad....from what I heard it was a season ticket holder that knew the ushers and everyone around his seats.
when he lost his balance and fell over the railing. I've got zero remorse for this idiot. This isn't Josh Hamilton throwing a ball to a dad who the. Fell to his death. This is just a Darwin Award winner who felt the need to scream at a a player he didn't like so hard, he fell over a railing and died.

Moron.
That is harsh bro.
I was at a Yankee Game in once when a guy fell from the upper deck and landed in the net above the backstop behind home. Was awhile ago,Torre was still managing and it was the old stadium.
Guy was loaded and when he first hit the net the was motionless for a bit, then he sat up and raised his arms cheering. He lucked out that the net was even there and could hold him, he was not a small dude.
Sad for this guy, also lucky he did not fall on others below.

and call him an idiot because he yelled at someone. But I have to wonder if alcohol was involved. I don't see how you randomly lose your balance and just fall over a railing otherwise.
I'm also not sure why we don't have a little netting in every park wherever there's a good sized fall. You don't have to litter the entire park with it but just below the railings would be great. It must be possible to do.

but I don't get how that happens unless you are drunk. I've been to Turner in the upper deck and it's almost impossible to fall over unless you try to, or do something really stupid.
if true, not a good way to go out, yelling at Arod. Â

I'm sure beer was in the bloodstream. Nevertheless, a very tragic way to end your life, at a baseball game where supposedly you are receiving entertainment.

Unfortunately, I think that for many people the primary entertainment is getting drunk, not the sporting event.

Around the upper decks extending 5 or 6 feet out that are sturdy enough to cath a full grown man. It just makes too much sense to not do this. The more likely application is catching food or personal items that go over the rail instead of having them drop on someone's head unexpectedly. It's amazing that this isn't a standard implementation in today's age.

Makes perfect sense, and since many of these stadiums are built with taxpayers money it would be reasonable for the owners to be held to a standard like this.
so the human thing to do is have remorse and condolences for a random guy who pretty much died because he was being an idiot and put himself in a dangerous position?
I don't think Kulish said the guy SHOULD die, just that he in fact died being a moron.
if he landed on some kid? This kind of thing is happening with such frequency in recent years maybe people need to be ejected from stadiums if any part of their body reaches over the rails at any time during the game - even reaching to catch a ball. Funny, they do have this policy when it interferes with play but not when it can possibly interfere with life.
The fan who died Saturday night after falling from the upper deck at Turner Field has been identified as a resident from Alpharetta.
Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim as 60-year-old Gregory Murrey, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.
The man reportedly lost his balance and fell 50 feet to the lower bowl section behind home plate, according to MLB.com.
According to ESPN, the man was a Braves season-ticket holder. Atlanta police are investigating the cause of the fall, but told WSB-TV they do not think foul play contributed to the accident. Return to Patch for updates.

Wouldn't be the first nor the last to do so.
Most people have at least a little compassion for a fellow man who dies; especially an untimely sort of death like this one. He was a 60 year old man who lost his balance and died from a fall, the fact that he may have been leaning over a railing while rooting against an opposing teams player doesn't seem like a thing to disqualify him from normal compassion. How jaded are we becoming?
Solid overhangs are no problem. Getting pooed on does kind of ruin the ballpark experience. There are unusable seats in Citifield below TV supports because they have so much bird droppings.

Everyone who knew him. Everyone who sat near him. Everyone who sat near where he landed. If he was intoxicated, I feel bad for him. But for God's sake, why did he apparently have to lean over the railing so damn much?

You seem like a great person.
I knew it was bad by the way they said it.
Weird to hear it on the radio.
RIP to the man... Sorry for his family...
Kulish - you're are ass.

Wow..really? Holy crap
Good idea Dave.

At the same time not sure this qualifies as "tragic" either. Some common sense and sobriety would have prevented this.
Hope he didnt have kids/dependents. RIP.

eh, they have plenty of overhangs around the stadiums and nobody gets pooed on too often.
