Terry Collins said Juan Uribe doesn't like to play first base, and wanted to get him at the lineup.
Collins also pretty adamant that Steven Matz is a starting pitcher and won't be a reliever. Of course, that can change. #Mets

Matz probably replaces Syndergaard in the rotation because Thor is near an innings cap
Parnell pitching off the mound under the watch of Dan Warthen, with a bullpen catcher taking swings. Seems like a simulated outing.
Hey, maybe it's just dumb enough to work.
For Addison Reed to be playoff-eligible, he only has to be added to the 40-man roster by 8/31. He doesn't have to report until 9/1.
Bobby Parnell threw live batting practice today. Expects to be activated Tuesday.
2012, 13, 14 ... Reed had 29, 40, 32 saves for the White Sox and Dbacks. But also 18 total blown saves. But again, Mets aren't looking for a closer at this point.

Heard same as @MarcCarig: #Mets unlikely to get Rzepzcynski despite being awarded claim. Reason unclear, but he is only LH in #Padres pen.
Trading Rzepczynski would save #Padres less than $500K. Sometimes teams prefer to play it out rather than take back a meager return.
Terry Collins knew David Ortiz was out at 2B in 9th inning Saturday and didn't challenge. Here's why:

I'm not surprised if they get shut out today

Addison Reed will join the Mets on Monday. Wilfredo Tovar was technically promoted and added to 60-day DL to create 40-man roster spot.
Wilfredo Tovar will earn $99,836.07 in September with Mets because of his promotion to the 60-day DL.
Mets say Addison Reed will be active Monday. Won't wait until Tuesday when rosters expand. So roster move from MLB staff coming.
I honestly wonder if Flores was a little dinged up. I can't imagine they would prefer to play Uribe at 2nd. Seems crazy.

Mets just spending on top of spending! Almost wreckless! Lol
1) who do the mets consider their ace right now, Degrom or Harvey? I. Other words, who starts game 1 of a series if they can manipulate the rotation
2) I notice Matt Harvey's strike outs are down from past years doing a little research. Did his surgery take anything away from him? Is he compromised in any way from his injury?
3) I see the kid pitching today is 22 and has great stats. Is syndergaard considered a potential ace level prospect?
4) These are their big 3 going forward I assume right? Do they have a stud in the minors pitching wise?
5) do they have a stud position player in the minors?
2.) Harvey's Ks are a bit down but he himself has said he only just got the feel for his slider back a few weeks ago. Its a Tommy John thing.
3.) Syndergaard(Thor) is an absolute stud and might be the best of the bunch within a year.
4.) Steven Matz is equally exciting and will be back in about a week. A power lefty from the left side with ACE potential. Zack Wheeler will also be back next year.
5.) We are LOADED in position player prospects. Conforto isn't playing today but is already on the team. He's our future LF and likely an all-star within a couple years.. Nimmo, Cecchini, Herrera, Plawecki, Rosario, Smith are players we are excited about on the way.
Welcome back!
I think he would still have to stay down the mandated 10 games or whatever. That was the issue with Dario Alvarez once they sent him down also.
Beautiful.
He's a serious candidate but not a front runner with guys like Bryant, Pederson, ect all in play.
One of those days.
They're going to need to skip him a couple times to keep within the vicinity where it's possible for him to be in the playoff rotation. The more likely scenario with Matz close to returning is that Matz rejoins the rotation and winds up part of the playoff 4 which would then be he deGrom, Harvey and Niese with Syndergaard going to the pen.
Still tentative but I think that's probably what we're looking at.
And boy.. I saw that HR coming. The bats better wake up soon otherwise we're going to get swept here.
You cant get swept at home by a last place team in a pennant race.
Its more than that. He had 134 last year and the Mets believe in the 30-50 rule. I would say 184 is more like his MAX.

DePo has said in the past, 25-30 more innings than the guy pitched the previous year. That's what I was going by. But 180 sounds more reasonable
They play in a tough division.
A pop up?

Ive heard Sandy say in an interview its more like 35-50. 25 would be insane. The rule of thumb is at least 30.
Maybe he'll claim Clippard was not available.
Of course they did.
Noah and Degrom both wilted late. But to be fair, he is out there in the blazing sun already over 100 pitches. I thought Recker made a mistake starting the pinch hitter with two off-speed pitches. Ahead 2-0, he was sitting on the fastball.
His ba is low, but he's hit 5 hr's and 5 doubles before today. I'm glad he can play second. He's not going to get many starts at third as long as Wright is healthy.

Been taking grounders at first too.
Started asking Shaw about Familia: "How nasty..." when Holt walked by, shook his head, and said, "Nastiest pitcher in the world."
#Mets have optioned Logan Verrett to Las Vegas to make room for Reed. He should be back in 10 days with another spot start on the horizon.
playoff teams will be better than this, that should offset any comments about Wright sitting or Cespedes sitting or Harvey only going 6 when he could have been pushed another inning.
Hopefully Reed helps plug the hole in the bullpen but the offense also needs to be better too or the Mets success won't be as much as it should or could be this year.

The Rockies beat the Pirates today 5-0. Should Pirates fans be concerned? It happens.
The concerns with the Mets were on display in the Red Sox series.
I don't think overall it was a bad series. Harvey, deGrom and Thor all pitched well. Like you'd expect.
I'm not antagonizing you, just saying this team has weaknesses and it's not a flawless team. In a series like this one the Mets should not be dominated by the opposing starters.

Except, the Pirates didn't have a bad series. The Pirates were on a four game win streak and had already taken the first two games against the Rockies before dropping the last game today. Why would Pirates fans be worried? That's probably the worst example you could have used.
I hope you're learning over there. Be quiet and sit still ...

Get bent, dickhead. Go back to the hole you crawled out of. You add zero to these threads except increase the asshole quotient.

The Red Sox have been playing well for the last month and have one of the top offenses in baseball since the all-star break. Combine that with some good young starting pitching and its not surprising this was a battle. If our pen hadn't been so burnt up we likely win Friday and take 2 of 3 anyway.

There's no such thing as a flawless team. The Pirates have flaws, the Dodgers have flaws, and the Cardinals have flaws. Kelly has been undefeated for over a month. Layne has been pitching well too. And who said the Mets are winning the World Series anyway? I think we are talented as anyone, especially when healthy, but Ive also said I could easily see us wiped out in the first round. Facing Kershaw and Greinke in round one is not going to be a picnic. But once we have our foot in the door, who knows what happens.

And the Mets just won seven games on the road before Friday's game. What's your point?
I'm not going to bang on them too hard for losing two in a row. Sox have been playing good ball lately. Sucks they lost two winnable games. But shit happens sometimes...

Oh geezus I quickly looked at the box scores and saw that the best team in baseball since early May was dominated by the Rockies today. Thats a bad example? Your trying to tell me the Pirates were playing well prior so it doesn't matter? The Mets are 8-2 in their last ten games. I was just saying better teams lose to lesser teams every day. How about the Rays beating the Royals today? That work?
I was simply pointing out that a team on verge of being swept versus a team looking to sweep was probably a poor comparison. The Royals might be a better example but they are 13 games up so I doubt their fans are concerned about anything.
My rosy optimism? I think we are better than the Nats and likely win the division. No different than Dan, Arc, and many others have said. I also said we could lose in the first round so not sure where my rosy optimism exceeds the majority of people here.
And no offense on the rosy optimism comment. It just kinda your thing :)

Lol disagree , an I guess not
The Mets were on a stretch where they were hitting something like .328 with RISP over several weeks. That isn't sustainable. The Red Sox series was the correction.
#Mets will add Eric Campbell, Eric Young, Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Kevin Plawecki on Tuesday when rosters expand.

I think Rubin was naming the position players. Dario Alvarez, for one, would almost assuredly be up as well.
In Vic Black's last 4 outings, he has walked 7 batters, allowed 8 hits, surrendered 6 ER and recorded 6 outs.
