Take a breath Giants fans - Its only preseason....

kinard : 8/30/2015 1:22 pm
...Remember last year? Giants were 5-0 in preseason and look how well the 2014 season worked out.

On September 13, we'll have Beckham, Cruz, Randle, Manning Jennings and Vereen all ready to go. I'll put our offensive skill players up there with anyone. Eli has always been a slow starter. Line looks better and Flowers will be a big addition.

Did anyone think the defense would not be a work in progress? It took Spags 4 games before his unit looked legit in 2007 - they were historically awful in the first two games. We have 2 of the best starting corners in the league when healthy and maybe Merriweather, Collins, Taylor and Brown can come together in the middle of the field (we did win a Super Bowl with Michael Butler and Girbril Wilson once).

Ayers, Moore, Hankins and the kid from UCLA. Lets see them play together for 4 quarters.

Not trying to minimize some issues (especially defensively) but you had to figure it would take some time.

I'm not saying that these games are completely meaningless but they're also not really disposative of anything in the long run. It looks like our starting QB and transcendent receiver will be healthy going into Week 1. Now that's a preseason victory....

Let's all collectively exhale. Haven't we learned from past Julys and Augusts? If we stay relatively healthy from here on, we can make some noise; If this team can win a couple of games going into Week 5 we can make a run.

Don't be fooled - When I last looked, calendar said its August 30 - Giants fans - it ain't as bad as it looks

Sooo.. I should watch this season?

I was reading that we'll be picking in the top 5 in next years draft :)

was pretty damned good.
Blah, blah, blah, blah
Gman11 : 8/30/2015 1:35 pm : link
Those players you mentioned? They haven't done much in the preseason. So, you think they're just going to flip a switch on Sept. 13?
We were 5-0 last preseason..
arcarsenal : 8/30/2015 1:37 pm : link
.. because our backups beat other backups for the most part.

The starters looked bad for the most part much like we are seeing this year. There are legitimate red flags.
i just don't want to get embarrassed on national tv
mirwin : 8/30/2015 1:38 pm : link
we can lose at 1:00 or 4:00 just on those prime time games don't make us look like a joke
Unfortunately
bc4life : 8/30/2015 1:42 pm : link
Ayers cannot stay healthy and Moore is miscast as a 4-3 DE.

I can see the RG settling down, but, think the ceiling may be too low re: our RT.

Does the preseason prevent our wrs from getting open?

Yes..Next question

the starters have looked like dogshit 3 years in a row now in pre-season. We were 5-0 last year because the backups played decently well in garbage time.

There are a ton of red flags. I still think the offense can be good but they will likely need to be unreal with the way the defense looks

A miscast ? What have you been watching ? When the guy rushes the passer he's done a good job.

this....starters have looked like dogshit 3 years in a row in pre-season. Somehow I find it hard to believe that the coaches find it NOT concerning that their starters cannot line up and execute fundamentals against other teams. This is not a Madden video game.

Gibril Wislson was a beast...5 straight seasons on 90+ tackles
Didn't we start out 3-2?
Headhunter : 8/30/2015 1:54 pm : link
Should of beaten the Cardinals, but those preseason starters did get off to a 3-2 start then proceeded to lose 6 in a row
miscast

I've been watching the run plays
i completely agree though
NYG4246 : 8/30/2015 1:55 pm : link
everyone needs to calm down.

no one ever remembers the pre-season . there is good reason for that

2012- 3-5 to close the season
2013- 7-9
2014- 6-10

This team has been 16-24 during the last 40 games. Within that time frame this team is 0-4 against Dallas. This team is 3-9 against Dallas & Philly dating back to the beginning of the 2012 season.

I will be rooting like hell for the Giants this season, but this has been a bad football team for awhile now.
unfortunately
mdc1 : 8/30/2015 2:01 pm : link
it will likely be an extension of our first few games so sometimes there are exceptions. You don't worry that game 1 will likely reveal exploitation of our run stop and secondary to very large numbers? Other teams will do the same.
Actually,

All I see
Hammer : 8/30/2015 2:23 pm : link
is an offense that runs in spurts and a starting defensive unit that cannot stop a team from quickly moving downfield at will.

Pre-season, obviously, means nothing, but the Giant's starters look absolutely awful, especially on defense.

At this point my expectations are very low.
I'm feeling very good about the offense
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 8/30/2015 2:25 pm : link
there is a lot of talent there. Our offense struggling in the pre-season has had more to do with Eli being bad than anything else. Our OL has given him good pockets and our WRs (especially Beckham) have gotten themselves in position to make big plays on well thrown balls. Eli just hasn't been very accurate. But I expect that to change once the regular season comes around. Our running game needs to be good enough to provide an offensive balance, hopefully one of the RBs steps up this year. But our passing game looks like it could be deadly this year. Really excited about watching Eli and the passing attack this year.

Our D just looks bad. There's just a lack of talent out there. What infuriates me is that I could see this team as a Super Bowl contender if JPP and Will Hill were both healthy and playing well for us, those two idiots have destroyed our defense. Spags is going to have to use a lot of smoke and mirrors to make our D work this year.
Don't be fooled.
chiefmps : 8/30/2015 2:25 pm : link
YES, this is a bad team! All the hopes and prayers won't help this year Giants team. The only question is will the Giants or the Redskins finish in last place? First step in fixing this team is to fire Jerry the GM and get one that knows how to rebuild a team! The good news is that the Giants will get a low pick in next year draft and maybe a comp pick or two. Also, if the Giants decide not to waste to much money on a aging Eli and a foolish JPP then they should also have some spending money for next year free agents. Here to a long season and hope for the next year.
I know yesterday was a stinker
81_Great_Dane : 8/30/2015 2:30 pm : link
but the Giants have a history of deliberately not showing best stuff in meaningless games against teams they know they're going to play later on, or even hope they're going to play later on.

Weird for the third preseason game to be a game where they have an incentive to go very vanilla.

QB's don't go grow on trees, and neither does talent. If it were so easy, the Giants would've been able to land these prospects already.
This has been a bad team for three years now
bluesince56 : 8/30/2015 2:37 pm : link
Time to reset. Fire the GM and give TC his gold watch and move on to rebuilding
I still see a positive season coming up
penAndDrink : 8/30/2015 2:37 pm : link
in spite of a messy preseason. Glass half full, IMHO.

The offense will look better, with game planning and the full playbook, with Schwartz, Cruz, Richburg, Randall healed up and ready to go. Wouldn't be surprised to see them put up 30+ points against the Cowboys in the opener.

The defense will be better than expected, with playmakers stepping forward. Maybe not early in the season, but soon enough. Good enough for 10-6? Maybe, or else 9-7.
Gmen are coming

view this preseason and think there is any chance in hell that these guys are somehow ready on 09/13. There is no switch or Gibbs-like master plan. There is a good chance of a six or less victory season.
Well, a lot of teams will take us lightly.
CT Charlie : 8/30/2015 3:37 pm : link
So we got that going for us.
Don't expect
Hem Roid : 8/30/2015 3:40 pm : link
Any sort of improvement, just bc its regular season a switch does not turn on. Everything translates, team is inept in all phases, and we can't even get 1st units to practice as a whole bc key players are constant health mysteries.
You say don't panic, well, tell me the positives so far from the

preseason.
Every year.....
Kanavis : 8/30/2015 4:47 pm : link
Mid-season ends up looking nothing like week 1. The end of the season ends up looking nothing like Mid-season. Teams change their quality of play week to week. Every team that pays the quarterback tax is thin. There may be reason for concern but it's not panic time. The Giants have to stay in striking distance and then hopefully get get healthier and better towards the end of the season. The team will also be more comfortable on Spagnolos system by then.

May not happen and we may indeed get blown out on week one
But even that isn't a reason to panic. Think of your own fantasy teams. Your big players go down all of a sudden
Someone you drafted late becomes one of your best players. Someone wins because of someone they picked up off the waiver wire. Games may not be fantasy but it does show you how much everything changes. Hang tight... Unless Kuhn starts. You then have permission to panic.
Its nothing but practice
KWALL2 : 8/30/2015 5:41 pm : link
and player evaluations and it seems most of BBI is packing it in. You all suck.

Packers are a SB favorite and their "first team defense" just gave up 39 first half points.

The Steelers? They just let 3 scrubs complete over 90% of their passes. Bills QBs went 30-33 vs PIT D.

Its nothing but practice folks.
Most of the football world knew which teams would be competing
baadbill : 8/30/2015 6:30 pm : link
for the Lombardi this season BEFORE the first pre-season game. Yes, the pre-season isn't something to get terribly worked up about because it's not likely reflective of major changes in any evaluation of your team's talent level before pre-season.

Anyone with half a brain knew - in JUNE - that the Giants defense was going to suck this year. That evaluation hasn't changed because of pre-season. The Giants defense will suck. Big time. Pre-season has NOTHING to do with it.
I wouldn't be so concerned
BlackLight : 8/30/2015 6:44 pm : link
if this wasn't a "win-or-else" year for Coughlin. If he goes, we'll lose either Spags or McAdoo, if not both.
I remember how we had DOZENS of posters

last year who said repeatedly with ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY that the Giants had blown their 1st rounder last year because Beckham was SOFT.

Funny how those guys are the same ones crying about doom and gloom now- you have such an impressive track record...NOT.

that will suck this year is the posts/threads regarding how fucking great Dallas and Philly is when they inevitably blow it in the playoffs, like always.

Dallas and Philly are so flawed that the best way for them to win it all, is if Rodgers, Wilson, Stafford, and Palmer get hurt.
