Coughlin: "I like the ball thrown down the field. I like taking shots. It's one thing to talk about it. It's another to do it."
Well, I for one am looking forward to seeing more of that too, but I think it is going to take the top three WRs returning before we see the full downfield attack.
thankfully the game didn't count. But always nice to see coach has his back. "That's probably one Eli would like back" wasn't available? "Fortunately for us it happened in a pre season game. Eli's made some pretty good throws over the years we think he'll be ok" wasn't working? Anyone ask what film TC is watching that shows Kuhn "holding the point of attack"?

Not sure I quite follow you on this one. Two bad throws last night and what was a bad INT does not mean Eli was awful last night. He was having a pretty good night up until the INT.
Is Coughlin talking about Kuhn holding the point of attack again this week or are just referencing last week?
but he played with the starters again and he was just as bad last week as this week. You're right Eli wasn't awful. Just makes my point more. After 12 years the head coach needs to have his back. Eli won 2 super bowls with pretty ordinary teams and still gets shit on in the national media. He deserves more respect from his own team.

I've never seen an NFL QB get more scrutiny than Eli Manning. Sure he makes the wrong decision from time to time, but it seems like every throw this preseason has been examined from every angle. Meanwhile, no one is discussing how little Rothlesberger has done this preseason, or how shaky Brady looks (I'll give the golden boy a pass). I'll accept people were critical after the 20+ INT season in 2013, but last year should have been enough for all the doubters to see that Eli can still play QB at a very high level (even without a running game).
The Kuhn thing makes zero sense to me. I have ultimate respect for Coughlin, but I can't believe they might be seriously thinking of staring Kuhn over Ellis or even Bromley.

Coughlin on Owa Odighizuwa: "We are obviously thinking more and more about how we might be able to utilize him to a further extent.''
I really liked seeing that. Owa could hold down LDE sooner rather than later. I enjoyed Joey in VA's post about setting the edge, which is exactly what the Giants D needs right now. If Owa can be counted on to do that, and bring the intensity on third down, then he will earn a staring job.
Is where this team will make its money this year, provided Randle and Cruz remain reasonably healthy.
The Giants best personnel grouping is 3WRs (OBJ, Cruz, Randle) Vereen at RB, and either Donnell or Cunningham at TE. 5 dangerous passing targets, spreads out the defense, and I think Vereen's hidden weapon is his ability to exploit gaps in the defense. Screens, draws, and play action are going to be devastating from this formation.
I think Jennings can play a bit of that Vereen role too, and if you want to get that tough yard you look to Williams. I know this site is down on the offense right now and I get it, but I really believe that when you get the Giant's best offensive weapons on the field at the same time the defense has no good answer. The weak spot is getting after Eli, and if the protection picks up the pressure, look out. It hasn't looked right yet, and I hope enough is ironed out by week 1.
This offense has limitless potential, and it should be aggressive early and often. Regardless of record, I would like to see the both the Giants offense and defense dictate the terms of the game, not be dictated too.
tom is finally getting frustrated with Eli. this has been going on for years now
What in the world are you talking about? Nothing wrong with saying Eli should have hit OBJ on that play, he should have. Coughlin has not changed his tune concerning Eli, ever. Go back a month ago, I believe Coughlin made some very pro Eli comments (like his best football is ahead of him), even more pro than the owner who once said Eli is the Giants present and future QB.
I really can't wait for the new deal to signed, so this will no longer be a topic of conversation. The QBs throws a pick 6 in a preseason game and elements of the fan base are imagining a head coach-starting QB feud? Come on
has lost it if he thinks throwing a pass to the Jets 41 yard line with 16 seconds left and no timeouts was a winning move.
What if it's the last possession of a game? Shouldn't they be practicing that situation? Jones did not work back hard for the ball.
I agree. Eli probably should not have thrown the ball, but Jones clearly stopped the route (probably thought it was zone coverage) and should have kept it coming across. Bad decision by the QB, terrible route and reaction by the WR. All in all, a bad play that the offense will learn from.

Ellis and Bromley got handled by the Jets' second and third stringers last night. Kuhn is the one-eyed man in the kingdom of the blind. We need another d-tackle.

Would like to see another DT brought in. Not sure everyone shares your review of Ellis and Bromley from last night though. Plenty of reviews of the game say those two guys played well, but had some hiccups.

Alas, Coughlin is giving us an increasing number of reasons to think he may have "lost it." Like stopping a team on 3rd down in punting territory, but then accepting a penalty against them. Among many others.

Ignore Thomas.
He's same guy who fake-insidered that the team was having physical fights -- like, pull apart brawls -- in the locker room over Eli's bad play in 2013, accused Ahmed Bradshaw of being on meth and struggling in games because he was tweaking/coming down, etc.
Tom Coughlin says on Eli INT there was plenty of time to "get the ball up the field.''
Tom Coughlin has no update on Robert Ayers. Says players were sent out for MRIs this afternoon.
Tom Coughlin had the same non-update on OL Bobby Hart and CB/S Josh Gordy.

Coughlin: "I like the ball thrown down the field. I like taking shots. It's one thing to talk about it. It's another to do it."
Coughlin says "not as far as I know'' when asked if Victor Cruz will return to practice this week.
Victor Cruz will likely miss all four preseason games. "That wouldn't be the preferred way,'' Coughlin said about heading into season.
Tom Coughlin on Nat Berhe: "There's decisions that have to be made. ... I appreciate very much Nat's optimism."
