Running Back Question..Darkwa & Vereen> Jennings & Williams?!?

Sangeman56 : 8/30/2015 6:14 pm
Does anyone else see this?

Honestly, when I watch Williams run he reminds me of a slightly better Ron Dayne! Jennings isn't bad but always ends up hurt..

Darkwa reminds me of a young Ahmad Bradshaw.. He just runs hard and forward! Vereen was a serious acquisition in free agency.. I was so pumped when I saw we snagged him. I had him in fantasy last year and he is really productive! So far it seems he is designated to 3rd Down?!

Whatcha guys think?
Dayne did not have
bc4life : 8/30/2015 6:18 pm : link
the run-people-over temperament. There is no comparing him to Williams.

They keep 4 rbs.
The only possible explanation is
KWALL2 : 8/30/2015 6:22 pm : link
you;re blind.

Williams is nothing like Dayne!
williams is more like ron johnson

or a faster brandon jacobs and smaller
If I had to rank them
giantsfan44ab : 8/30/2015 6:28 pm : link
assuming full health:

1.) Jennings
2.) Vereen
3.) Darkwa
4.) Williams

Jennings healthy is a solid guy. He did well in Jacksonville and Oakland as a fill in.

Its close. I think Vereen can be more impactful than Jennings. Haven't seen him much as a runner, I am not sure if he is a bad runner or he just never had to play that role. I'd take Darkwa over Williams but I am not going to declare him better than the first two simply because he had 2 nice preseason games.
Well
Sangeman56 : 8/30/2015 6:32 pm : link
Maybe that is a bad comparison.. But I honestly think he is one dimensional.. He can't downhill he is pretty much useless.. He can't outrun people.. He can't catch. He was good for a few games last year and then disappeared. I honestly would rather Vereen or Darkwa getting more reps. Stick williams in on the goalline.

Vereen played mostly pass sets.. He is an effiecent runner.. But he is prob one of the best in the league receiving out of the backfield.. During the preseason it's seemed like the Giats are copying how the Pats used him.. I think he should be used more..
Why is darkwa attached to vereen??
djm : 8/30/2015 6:38 pm : link
Vereen is the specialist rb on this team. He's the guy were gonna ask to get 7 yards on 2nd and 3rd down out of the backfield. Not sure why we have to judge vereen as a counterpart to darkwa. Vereen is gonna play a lot this year no matter what Jennings or Williams is doing.
Williams
bc4life : 8/30/2015 6:38 pm : link
is a little quicker than people give him credit for.

Knock on him last year was impatience, not waiting for the blocks to develop. This is year 2 and there is no reason to think he won't improve.
Ron D. was more comfortable...

take Shaun Alexander in that draft.
Do you keep Darkwa over Hunt?
Ira : 8/30/2015 6:42 pm : link
To me, that's a very difficult question.

I was shocked they didn't take Tom Brady with their 1st round pick. Yeah, I know they could've grabbed him in rounds two through six, but you just don't take that kind of chance when a prospect with his potential is available!
I'm a big fan of Darkwa's.
Jon in NYC : 8/30/2015 6:52 pm : link
I hope he gets a chance at somepoint.

Williams has had seven carries this preseason. Two of those came on plays in the first game where he was hit in the backfield.

When the play has been blocked...like the one against the Jaguars...he's looked really good.
Eric agree in his limited snaps he's looked good. If the one catch
Watson : 8/30/2015 7:09 pm : link
was any indication he's made a real improvement in that area as well.

Darkwa has had to date far more snaps than any of the others. He is being given a chance to make the team. I'll be surprised if he doesn't.

Williams and Darkwa Looking Good
CJ in AZ : 8/30/2015 7:15 pm : link
Williams this preseason has looked both good and more patient. Darkwa has been the most consistently good preseason rusher. Either one will be gone in a minute if not on the final roster.
Just a reminder, Williams had laser surgery
Watson : 8/30/2015 7:27 pm : link
on his eyes this off season. Says it's allowed him to focus faster. Also no longer any problem with contacts getting loose or falling out

Look forward to watching him play.

Not difficult at all. Darkwa positively has to be on the team.
Love the RB depth. One of the deepest units in he league
BillT : 8/30/2015 8:18 pm : link
Hard for me to see how Williams gets many carries if Jennings is healthy and Vereen gets most of the the "3rd down" reps but he's a good runner. However, Darkwa may have as good all around skills as any of them.
Might sound a bit out there,
MOOPS : 8/30/2015 8:40 pm : link
but I'd be looking to see if I could swing a deal for Jennings with a team that has a spare, quality DT.
Let me guess..
FatMan in Charlotte : 8/30/2015 8:43 pm : link
you are making these opinions based on preseason, right?

Yes. I'm right. Let's just nominate Nassib for starter.

Oh wait, there are people doing that too - just like they wanted Stanzi over Nassib after the first preseason game.

Don't get the comparison, at all. Alexander had a very good college career and many were predicting hims at the Giants 1st round pick. Did anyone see Brady as a round 1 pick?

But to me, that is NOT a difficult question because the simple answer is Dwayne Harris.
real question for me is
CGiants07 : 8/30/2015 10:48 pm : link
do you carry 7th wr over 9th OL with cruz battling a nagging calf injury and coming off the knee.If you only carry 6 wr you keep parker or jones?

Basically comes down to Adam Gettis or Parker/Jones loser to hit 25 on offense with 2 qb,5 rb including fb, 3 te,7 wr/8 OL or 6 wr/9 OL

Doubt they carry 7 wides
Ten Ton Hammer : 8/30/2015 10:56 pm : link
Beckham
Cruz
Randle
Harris
Parker
Davis

I think you need to carry the additional OL.

I'm just joking, because there was so much discussion about it on BBI back then and in the years that followed (when the Shaun Alexander fan club seemed to inflate faster than the Universe). I wanted Stockar McDougle in that draft. I liked Julian Peterson, too, but was turned off by his single digit score on the Wonderlic.
Hell,

Williams reminds me more of Jacobs than Dayne

Needs good blocking. When he gets up to speed, watch out.

I like Darkwa, too.
