NFT: Met trade

Hilary : 8/30/2015 6:26 pm
The Mets have picked up Addison Reed from Arizona in exchange for two minor league pitchers Koch AA and Diaz A.
Reed is a right handed pitcher.I have not seen him pitch.Gives up a hit an inning and a walk every 3 innings.ERA 3.5=4.5.Will be tried for 7th innings.

I don't understand how there are trades after the trade deadline.
Players who clear waivers can be traded after the deadline.

Is he headed for the big club for September,

or to a minor league affiliate.

Something MLB fans don't always think about: The organization has to throw a bone to its minor league affiliates now and then. The affiliates need to be competitive to keep attendance up, and that matters to everybody, including the big league club. The Mets have had a pretty strong system but they've raided it this season.

he is a closer who lost his job and actually wound up being sent down to the minors earlier this year
The Mets are hoping he'll become the 7th inning guy.

Trading away 2 minor leauge prospects for one player would not be much of a bone.
LOL.

We didn't give up much to get Reed,
Ira : 8/31/2015 7:46 am : link
but we didn't get much either. His season's era of 4.20 is the same as his career era.

Diaz was about to be a minor league FA and Koch doesn't miss any bats. His upside is likely... Addison Reed. Solid gamble with very limited downside. That said, the minor league pitching depth IS very thin right now.

AAA
Herrera 0-4
Gee 6 innings 6 hits 3 er 10 k's
Alvarez 0.1 innings 1 hit 2 runs 1 bb
Reynolds 1-4 (OPS down to .714)
Nimmo 0-3, bb, k

AA
Rivera 2-5. BB
Gseellman 6 innings 7 hits 1 er 0 walks 2 k's (K-rate is very low, even for a groundball pitcher. hopefully next year he can miss a few more bats. Gee-ish upside)

BK
Garcia 1-3, K
Thompson 1-3, BB, K

Kingsport
Kacz 2-4
Winningham 1-4, k
Ramos 1-3, 2b (.389 last 10. Nice finish to this season after some off the field issues)
Carpio 1-4
Sanchez 1-3
McIlraith 7 innings 8 hits 1 run 0 walks 2 k's
Davis 2 innings 5 hits 0 runs 0 walks 2 k's

as expected has struggled in BK so far. 2-17 with 6 k's. Nothing to be worried about at this point, though the overall K rate is quite high.

can help the bullpen out in September. I understand he was a malcontent earlier, but IMO, what he said isn't bad enough to not call him up when rosters expand.

Agreed. He's a goner after the year anyway. Not to be cruel but why not use him and is innings?

Nice to see Morris dealing again. I think he's going to help next year. Hopefully, he'll start the year in AAA and get half a season or so to work with Viola and then get called up to the show mid-season.

looked shellshocked at the MLB level. Not blaming the Mets at all but I don't think they had a great read on how "unready" he was mentally for the big show.
