but Arrieta is putting up an utterly dominant year and totally deserves it. The Dodgers get no-hit twice in 8 days, once by Fiers who isn't very good, but this time by a pitcher who might win the NL Cy Young
Arrieta is such a strange case. He came on the scene in 2010 and was a bad pitcher until last year. Night and day different pitcher than he was in the AL.
Living in MD, I followed him thru the O's system and it's a shame he couldn't develop as they'd hoped here. I sat right behind the plate and saw him pitch in Norfolk in 2010 and in that game he threw every pitch with command. Good for him.
if you missed this one, there will be another next week. And probably tomorrow someone will go 8 innings of no hit ball.
They just happen too frequently now. Not that special anymore.
Now 6 no-hitters in MLB
Chris Heston
Max Scherzer
Cole Hamels
Hisashi Iwakuma
Mike Fiers
Jake Arrieta
Of the 6, only 3 should good enough to be in the conversation to throw no-hitters (Scherzer, Arrieta, Hamels). The other three have no business throwing one but did...shows you how there is an imbalance towards pitching
RE: Mook, you must remember facing him on Baltimore
Did he have this type of stuff? His stats were awful with the Orioles.
He always had a good arm, but had terrible results. His slider is deadly right now though and i dont remember it ever being that good with the Orioles.

Nobodies throwing no-hitters is not a new phenomenon:
Phil Humber
Jonathan Sanchez
Bud Smith
Eric Milton
Chris Bosio

Just to name a few
Sometimes you get the outlier where a bottom of the rotation starter throws a no-no but not 3 of them in one year. If you look at the history of no-hitters most of the pitchers who throw them are either HOFers, All-Stars or pretty damned accomplished

Heston is a rookie with 11 wins so far. Who knows how he's going to turn out but he's having a good year.
is a better broadcaster than Schilling...she needs to stay
Curt Schilling is the WORST broadcaster in all of sports.
He absolutely is UNLISTENABLE.
His constant, constant blabbering sucks the whole broadcast down, he is one of the biggest hypocritical assholes out there....how ESPN can employ him after all the crap he has done (Like stealing $40 million from taxpayers) is beyond me.
stole money from tax payers is silly. the state of Rhode Island government who loaned him the money (in exchange for him moving his company HQ there) is as much to blame as Schilling or probably even more. He shopped that business plan to many VC's and they all passed. Even with Schilling's name attached to it when VC's aren't really known for being very conservative.
He created a business plan, presented it to the state, they loaned him money, guaranteed it based on the aforementioned conditions, and the business failed.
If he wasn't an athlete or celebrity you probably never would have heard about it.
I'll defer to others on the analyst opinions, I almost never watch non-Mets games on TV, so I haven't seen him a lot.

Not to mention Schilling lost 40M of his own personal savings in the deal, he's probably a bad businessman, but he's hardly alone in that regard. Calling him a thief is beyond an exaggeration.
Cubs have some serious youth, and talent, and are 'feeling it'.
When Arrieta is on he looks extremely casual about it.
He almost no-hit the Rsox a few years ago and the fans were actually cheering him on, as weird as that may seem.

Beats 14-11 slugfests...
much easier on the eyes too...
Great accomplishment. These have come in bunches lately, not necessarily a bad thing. We are in an era of pitching

Two guys from LA may have a say in that.

LOL, no I didn't thank you for pointing that out.
