With soo many negatives, what are the positives

superspynyg : 8/31/2015 8:54 am
that have come out of preseason?

I know that there are a lot of negatives (Cruz still out, oline struggles, S injuries, etc..) but there has to be some positives.

I will start it off: OBJ finally recorded some good catches in the preseason. Had a nice one handed grab (even though it was out).

who else?

Thompson got hurt early so can't say much about him

But overall this could be a very good draft class.
Kerry Wynn
NYG4246 : 8/31/2015 9:18 am : link
is going to be an absolute stud of a defensive lineman. he reminds me of tuck a lot. Good DE and he can move inside and play DT just as well

on that note I always wished the Giants just moved Tuck to DT and kept him around.

BrettNYG10 : 8/31/2015 9:18 am : link
If you've watched other teams in the pre-season, there's a lot of poorly played football.

Also, the Giants play ten games against teams with 8 or less wins lat year. Eight against teams with a below .500 record.

There's a lot of mediocre football right now. Eli and Odell may be able to turn the offense into an elite unit, which could be enough to be competitive.
Didn't even mention possible keepers like Hunt, Unga, metc

Lol. A lot of those guys aren't even starting caliber players, let alone foundational talents.

And as for Reese, are you pleased with how he's wasted Eli's prime with a shit OL year after year?
Mod
ColHowPepper : 8/31/2015 9:22 am : link
your posts for sure, EF being the outstanding positive development. Too early to know about Collins, but Odi looks real.

I will say a silver lining about VC's calf is that it gives him more time to rehab and get stronger after the surgery, even if it delays practice and game reps.

And another: I hope we see more and more of Cunningham: maybe this means the end of the Robinson experiment and TE by committee experiment. Donnell seems more situational guy, because his blocking still is an adventure from suckingdom.

The d as a whole looks like a very black hole.

Not quite sure how Cruz is a positive. He hasn't practiced since August 19th and won't this week. In typical Giants fashion, a day to day injury will take weeks.
Flowers, Flowers and Flowers. And Odi.
Victor in CT : 8/31/2015 9:26 am : link
Collins would have been if he didn't miss a week, but as I said earlier, it's nice to see that we actually have a player with some recuperative power.

Your list is quite a reach

Beason hurt so fast is a positive?

Randle a positive? What has he done this preseason besides dress for the games. He probably fucked that up too

Richburg. He hasn't done much this preseason to say he's been a bright spot

Selvie and Ellis? Combined they have almost done something
Doc
gidiefor : Mod : 8/31/2015 9:27 am : link
I think you need to add Cooper Taylor to your list
The issue is the defense
JonC : 8/31/2015 9:33 am : link
They need to get past the learning curve, and need some unknowns to step up and contribute. I'd warned before this season they'd need one more offseason to infuse the defense with talent, and changing the season would require some patience.

Some of the defense looking so bad is they've got Jenkins starting at DE due to injuries, that's one example of being shorthanded, and it appears the safeties are struggling with the learning curve. Collins looks the part though, he's a presence back there.

OL is growing, their plan there is working. Get Eli comfortable and the offense will do its part. Right now it's vanilla back there with very little gameplanning, even against NYJ.

gidie, agree.
Big Blue '56 : 8/31/2015 9:33 am : link
Taylor, Donnell, Wynn..Sorry, I knew I left some off..

Tuckrule:

The OP asked for positives..The implication is that the "walking wounded" will be ready to go..Beason? If he's hurt again, he's off the list..I'm simply projecting moving forward..There are far more positives potentially than negatives on this team, imo..

As I've said, I pay little attention to pre-season as indicators of anything..It's about shuffling in 90 players, playing with limited practices and not enough time in-game to get enough reps for the starters..

Some teams look great in pre-season, others look like shit..We've seen this dance play out each and every year

Hey here's an idea. Lets forget about the Giant record this season and concentrate on how many one handed catches OBJ makes and how many times he undresses the oppositions secondary. Won't that be fun!!!

That wasn't the question was it Old Dirty Bunghole. The question asked for a positive. Beckham played well. Nobody is suggesting that one player making a spectacular play in a game is an acceptable substitute for a loss you stupid fuck.
Flowers, Odi, Vereen
Scyber : 8/31/2015 10:07 am : link
All have been positive and have been contributing (aka not injured).

The line as a whole looks serviceable, which is an improvement over last year. If the right side can stabilize, then perhaps they have a shot at being better then OK.

and its young too. Flowers-Pugh-Richburg-Schwartz- Beatty (eventually). 4 of those are recent top picks, if I count Beatty in 2012. If not you still have 3 top picks from the last three years. Say what you want about Reese and the Giants, but over the past 2-3 years they have done well by the offensive line.

Positives that I see
mavric : 8/31/2015 1:08 pm : link
We had one hell of a good draft this year.

Flowers looks solid - and is a bulldozer for the running game

Odighizuwa looks very good - non-stop motor and knows how to set the edge

Collins is still green, but has a great future

Jeremy Davis is showing promise as is Hart.

-------------------------------------------------

Nassib looks sharp and can handle McAdoo's system giving us a little security in our backup QB position

Vereen looks like he is going to be Eli's best pal and will be to the Giants and Eli what Witten is to the Cowboys and Romo

JT Thomas looks like he'll do just fine for us

Dwayne Harris brings a lot of enthusiasm and hopefully changes our pathetic ST play

I've also been impressed with Trevin Wade as a back CB

I also like the play of Uani Unga and hopes he makes the team

So there's some positives. The negatives are all about injuries, Eli's hot and cold flashes, questions surrounding the safety position...IMO

It was the punters fault on the punt that got returned for a TD. You're not supposed to give a PR a full field to work with. The coverage needs to be way better as well but it starts with the punt.

Will play better. He has rarely done great in the pre season. The team has young pieces and should improve as the year goes on. Bromley looks good. Williams should be better than last year.

steve in ky : 9/1/2015 7:56 am : link
Eli and Coughlin. With those we have a franchise QB and coach who have proven they can win it all. Without either of those two things teams will go nowhere so we have that and have to hope that enough other things fall into place and some guys step up where needed and by playoff time they are gelling as a team. In todays NFL it really comes down to a team peaking at the right time. That is what we should be hoping for.
