that have come out of preseason?
I know that there are a lot of negatives (Cruz still out, oline struggles, S injuries, etc..) but there has to be some positives.
I will start it off: OBJ finally recorded some good catches in the preseason. Had a nice one handed grab (even though it was out).
who else?
not much to draw upon here, you want to point to a WR 5 catch 31yard performance as a positive so be it ...
what I see, is the same deficiencies that have been going on for 4 years now ...
failure to run, failure to stop the run, failure to cover on 3rd long, confusion in the defensive backfield
atop of the failures, I see a team with poor effort and showing very little desire ...
I could probably draw a positive if the effort or want to be better than your opponent was displayed regardless of the outcome, but its not there ...
team if void of talent in all 3 phases of the game, someone started a predict your record thread, this is a team that will be lucky to get 3-4 wins ...
don't tell me its preseason, means nothing, gameplans are vanilla etc. ... mechanics, timing and desire translate and is a direct carry over to when the games begin to count on the score card ...
Eli and the WR's do not concern me, they'll be allright. The other huge problem looked like the safety's and my hunch is they are going to be allright. Our inability to stop the run continues though.
The OL as a whole has been "serviceable" at worst.
Cunnungham/Unga have looked good and earned roster spots.
But Flowers, Odi, Vereen, Beckham and the return of Cruz are all things I'm looking forward to seeing. Even Vereen I think is going to be really exciting.
I hope Landon Collins develops his game this year, we need that a lot. He and Odi are what I'm excited about on Defense.
Specials remain the weak link and I put that on Quinn. Again. We sign Harris to a big contract and the guy has zero room to operate, one of the best in the game and he has nowhere to even get started. That's frustrating.
can't always say that about 6th and 7th round picks.
Eli, Jennings, Vereen
OBJ, Cruz, Randle, Jones
Richburg, Flowers, Pugh, Schwartz
Hyno
Odi, Moore, Ellis, Selvie, Ayers, Bromley, Hankins
JT Thomas, Kennard, Beason
DRC, Prince, Collins
Weatherford, DeOssie, Brown, Harris
Not too bad of a foundation..I'm sure I left off someone(s)
on that note I always wished the Giants just moved Tuck to DT and kept him around.
Also, the Giants play ten games against teams with 8 or less wins lat year. Eight against teams with a below .500 record.
There's a lot of mediocre football right now. Eli and Odell may be able to turn the offense into an elite unit, which could be enough to be competitive.
Eli, Jennings, Vereen
OBJ, Cruz, Randle, Jones
Richburg, Flowers, Pugh, Schwartz

I count 5 walking wounded out of this bunch, 1 who has yet to play a live snap, and another who anchors a very important defensive position that can in no way shape or form be counted on ...

As you will(counting walking wounded) for every team in the NFL
Eli, Jennings, Vereen
OBJ, Cruz, Randle, Jones
Richburg, Flowers, Pugh, Schwartz
Hyno
Odi, Moore, Ellis, Selvie, Ayers, Bromley, Hankins
JT Thomas, Kennard, Beason
DRC, Prince, Collins

Lol. A lot of those guys aren't even starting caliber players, let alone foundational talents.
And as for Reese, are you pleased with how he's wasted Eli's prime with a shit OL year after year?
I will say a silver lining about VC's calf is that it gives him more time to rehab and get stronger after the surgery, even if it delays practice and game reps.
And another: I hope we see more and more of Cunningham: maybe this means the end of the Robinson experiment and TE by committee experiment. Donnell seems more situational guy, because his blocking still is an adventure from suckingdom.
The d as a whole looks like a very black hole.
Eli, Jennings, Vereen
OBJ, Cruz, Randle, Jones
Richburg, Flowers, Pugh, Schwartz
Hyno
Odi, Moore, Ellis, Selvie, Ayers, Bromley, Hankins

Not quite sure how Cruz is a positive. He hasn't practiced since August 19th and won't this week. In typical Giants fashion, a day to day injury will take weeks.
Beason hurt so fast is a positive?
Randle a positive? What has he done this preseason besides dress for the games. He probably fucked that up too
Richburg. He hasn't done much this preseason to say he's been a bright spot
Selvie and Ellis? Combined they have almost done something
Some of the defense looking so bad is they've got Jenkins starting at DE due to injuries, that's one example of being shorthanded, and it appears the safeties are struggling with the learning curve. Collins looks the part though, he's a presence back there.
OL is growing, their plan there is working. Get Eli comfortable and the offense will do its part. Right now it's vanilla back there with very little gameplanning, even against NYJ.
Tuckrule:
The OP asked for positives..The implication is that the "walking wounded" will be ready to go..Beason? If he's hurt again, he's off the list..I'm simply projecting moving forward..There are far more positives potentially than negatives on this team, imo..
As I've said, I pay little attention to pre-season as indicators of anything..It's about shuffling in 90 players, playing with limited practices and not enough time in-game to get enough reps for the starters..
Some teams look great in pre-season, others look like shit..We've seen this dance play out each and every year
id be willing to be my life against this ... Ask TC or Spags or even our brainless GM if preseason means nothing ...
Pretty sure in 11 there were posters that said they hoped the team didnt make the playoffs because they were just going to lose first round...
Now i am not saying this team is going to the playoffs or going to win the superbowl, all i am saying is you never know what a team is going to be based on preseason...
He turned him around and beat him BADLY 3 times. The passes weren't there.
Eli, Jennings, Vereen
OBJ, Cruz, Randle, Jones
Richburg, Flowers, Pugh, Schwartz
Hyno
Odi, Moore, Ellis, Selvie, Ayers, Bromley, Hankins

Kuhn? Jk!

narrative that OBJ somehow undressed Revis is a joke. He had five inconsequential catches and really only had 4.

Hey here's an idea. Lets forget about the Giant record this season and concentrate on how many one handed catches OBJ makes and how many times he undresses the oppositions secondary. Won't that be fun!!!

That wasn't the question was it Old Dirty Bunghole. The question asked for a positive. Beckham played well. Nobody is suggesting that one player making a spectacular play in a game is an acceptable substitute for a loss you stupid fuck.
The line as a whole looks serviceable, which is an improvement over last year. If the right side can stabilize, then perhaps they have a shot at being better then OK.

You left off La'El Collins......woops I meant that hidden treasure Brett Jones.
I know, I usually ignore the idiot too but that one just pissed me off.
wow !
OBJ looks primed for year 2
Williams looks to have improved patience
OO.
They have run the ball much better to the left rather than the right and they may be their biggest problem going into the season...
