WEEI said about 10 am this morning Judge Berman called John Mara in to mediate between NFL-Brady.
Anyone outside NE hear that as well, or was WEEI in their usual stupid mode?
they bring in an another team's owner to mediate an issue between the league and another team's star player? The NFL really needs a better process for this stuff, the disciplinary side of the league process is a shambles.

It's not simply because he is another owner, it's because he is an attorney with significant legal expertise. Not to mention the fact that he is highly respected and viewed as the "voice of reason" in situations like this.

This...I think that's an excellent choice..I believe he'd be fair to both parties
Via Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Judge Richard M. Berman requested Mara to be present, and so Mara is present.
“Requested” is probably putting it mildly. The case filed by the league in Judge Berman’s court listed only one party as the plaintiff: The National Football League Management Council. Mara, not Commissioner Roger Goodell, is the chairman of the NFL Management Council. So Judge Berman has every right to not request but to demand that Mara attend.
that Mara was in today's meeting, which was called by the court to try to prod the two sides to settle.
According to that ESPN report, the judge has to either uphold the suspension in full or throw it out altogether. No splitting the difference -- not permitted. (Like salary arbitration in baseball) So the judge really, really, really wants them to settle.
off the judge.
On the one hand judges tend to honor contracts, as flawed as the CBA may be in this circumstance, yet, given the weakness of the Wells report, Bermans judgemanship would need to find TB not guilty.
If Kraft had not accepted the punishment, this would have been easier for Berman; the acceptance implies organizational, and by inference Brady, guilt.
Given recent RG screwups(Rice,AP,Hardy) I hope the owners thru JM, give in to Pats and use this to dump it all on RG and can him.
This is not the NFL, this is the Court...
