and had a bunch of picks a couple years ago. You can do worse as your 4th safety. There may be guys cut loose that trump his spot on the roster, but they needed a guy now.
Cautiously optimistic this means Meriweather never plays

bring in Brown on obvious passing downs. He's not a great player but he does seem to have a nose for the football on 3rd and longs.

Whatever. Better than the shit we have.

So would I. As far as Brown is concerned, he's a safety for the New York Giants. His next stop is IR.
Needed body
micky : 8/31/2015 12:01 pm : link
I guess. Just stay healthy.
A lot of people keep bringing up
B in ALB : 8/31/2015 12:02 pm : link
the INTs from a couple years ago without realizing that he often gambled cluelessly and was routinely out of position. Plus he can't actually cover anyone.

Whatever. What a sad state of affairs.
I would rather keep Merriweather than Miles
nygiants16 : 8/31/2015 12:02 pm : link
Miles looks lost back there, and he always seems a step slow to his spot...

Collins and Taylor start, Merriweather plays the big nickel in the box...

Keep Collins Taylor merriweather and Brown...
Right now...
BamaBlue : 8/31/2015 12:05 pm : link
gambling cluelessness is an improvement to this defense.

He didn't do anything well. For every INT he had that ONE year, he got toasted 30 other times.
Collins and Taylor
Mr. Nickels : 8/31/2015 12:17 pm : link
are your starters. Young and inexperienced but they have the most talent. Stevie Brown can play center field on passing downs.

Merriweather vs Miles for the last spot
I would think Miles is on the bubble with this
BillT : 8/31/2015 12:19 pm : link
But it could be Meriweather. Hard to know what they think of Meriweather. Miles is just a ST guy but that's ok for a fourth safety. If Meriweather has not played well enough they could replace him with Brown.
Of course there is no guarantee
BillT : 8/31/2015 12:20 pm : link
Brown is kept.
what's the contract?
micky : 8/31/2015 12:25 pm : link

This is the dick that wouldn't let Jacobs get his #27 back.
SHO'NUFF : 8/31/2015 12:25 pm : link
even though he was on IR. Who has #27 now? Don't give it back to him.
There's another Stevie
Stufftherun : 8/31/2015 12:31 pm : link
for whom he reminds me of but the other one reads Braille and would likely read defenses just as well.

Welcome back ...ugh!
Maaaan, this season is shaping up to be awful.

JonC : 8/31/2015 12:46 pm : link
Stevie's diagnostic skills are highly suspect, and he lacks the range to be consistently effective in centerfield.

Even if Spags could deploy him as a big safety, he's not a consistent tackler or effective versus the TE.

Miles has been disappointing so far, let's hope one of these dudes begins to figure it out quickly.

FUNNY!!!!!!!!!!
I'd give Miles some latitude to acclimate
Big Blue '56 : 8/31/2015 12:50 pm : link
.
He's not really a box safety
B in ALB : 8/31/2015 12:51 pm : link
or a cover guy. He is really not good at either coverage or sticking his hat in there to make tackles.

So what is he? A Deon Grant-light hybrid safety deployed to cover TEs and help the LBers? It's been a staple of Spags defenses in the past. That'd be my guess.

Unfortunately, he's not good.
We have to hope Taylor and Collins
section125 : 8/31/2015 12:54 pm : link
start to get it. Brown at least can play NFL safety. Miles seems a mess and Merriweather hasn't been here long enough to learn the defense.
TC is grasping a straws. Brown now two years removed from the surgery may be ready to step it up.
I won't hold my breath.

After he had his 7 INT season, he got a lot of shit here that every INT was "lucky". Sometimes lucky is being in the right place at the right time. I'm curious to see, if he makes the team, to see how he does fare.
Newbie here....

Actually I heard about this site from BBV as someone one ripping Eric for not approving of Eli's play so I had to come check it out. Aside from the fact that we suck this year so far....how the hell is everybody doing?

Welcome.

This place is panic city right now, I would say to reserve judgements.

Also, don't go in the game threads.

Hey Randy, he's a gambler. I could see from TV tape at least four of those INTs were a product of him actually not being where he should've been. Those times it paid off largely because the QB made an awful throw. Other times, Webster cut loose a receiver that passed through his zone and Stevie was nowhere to be found. Sometimes the guess/gamble paid off, sometimes it cost NYG a crucial score in a loss.

Oh sure protect the new guy. To truly appreciate BBI, going to game threads is a must.

prdave73 : 8/31/2015 3:37 pm : link
At least he has the balls to hit someone. This team needs to be aggressive in the worst way..
Pretty Sad State
Jeffrey : 8/31/2015 5:05 pm : link
Brown was brought in by the Texans as an upgrade to a team that also was lacking in safeties. Three of last year's safeties were allowed to walk and Brown still was unable to even make the team. That does not sound like much of an endorsement for his current skills.
Pretty sad
5BowlsSoon : 8/31/2015 5:52 pm : link

I am sorry I do not see the downside in this
The 12th Man : 8/31/2015 6:39 pm : link
Signing. The moment I heard he got cut by the Texans I assumed this was going to happen. Right now he is not even on this team. We need bodies for reps. He knows some of the guys on D and he will go after the ball. Tackling and covering not his forte. Who cares at least we have someone who can practice. As my father used to say no one even Stevie Brown is worthless, they can always be used as a poor example.

And the guys they have now will probably get toasted just as much without the interceptions. He may have sucked, but at least he got a few interceptions. Not only that, but he ran them back pretty well too.
