How many years of Eli?

giantsfan44ab : 8/31/2015 12:04 pm
I guess all the terms being thrown around lately like "rebuilding" or "retooling" or what not has gotten me thinking if this developing roster will coincide with the last of Eli's serviceable years.

How many years do you think he's got left to be able to take a team to the playoffs? I personally think this new offensive system might get an extra year or two out of him because he has shorter throws to work with.

And do you think Ryan Nassib will be any good? Or do you think he will ever start a game as a Giant?
5-6 years or so.

If he cares to play that long, that is..He hasn't lost a thing off his fastball and his mental acuity is second to none, imv
Four more at least.

Time for one more cycle, which is already underway (though progressing slowly). Statistically I think his best years are ahead of him.
if you listen to Eric...
ct.fatboy1080 : 8/31/2015 12:11 pm : link
he is done now....4 years max, I really question if he even wants to go that far, but if he does,.. I say keep him. for all his shortcomings.. there are not too many I would take over him in a BIG spot.
Eli is a good QB but not a great QB.
chiefmps : 8/31/2015 12:21 pm : link
The big question for me is do you invest 20 million + on a QB that don't have a talented team around him and at best will take a year or two with a good GM to rebuild this team? Age, salary cap, and the ability of this Giants team to win are the key factor here. I will like to see the Giants keep Eli for the right price. Sometime it come down to the salary cap and do you brake the bank for Eli? This is Eli last chance to sign a big contact and he knows it and the Giants have to weight in the factor of age and other things. Maybe, if possible, trading Eli mite be the best move for Eli and the Giants. So, does Eli get the big contract or do the Giants look for other options?
Eli has already said he is not playing elsewhere....

I believe him...period.
he has time left in his career
fame56 : 8/31/2015 12:25 pm : link
I'm wondering if he and his family are considering finishing a great career somewhere else

peyton has done it, why not...if he gets to free agency in 2017, after a one year franchise deal with the Giants in 2016, there should be more than a few other teams interested, I would imagine
i'm sure if Dalton
giantsfan44ab : 8/31/2015 12:32 pm : link
punts on another chance to prove himself, Cimncy would die to have a QB on Eli's level. The offense could be top 3 with a good QB and they have millions of cap to spend. Could easily shore up their defense in one offseason if they chose to.

Peyton didn't do it by choice. And as was mentioned, Eli has made it clear he wants to finish his career as a Giant.
If Eli left

If Eli left i would root for that team unless it was Skins/Eagles/Dallas. Giants dropped the ball on Eli's good years. Giants roster sucks.

His preparation is second to none....I'll give you that but if his mental acuity is that of a rookie gunslinger far too often. How does a player with his resume come out so sloppy week in and week out? I know, it's just preseason and he will get better but he isn't making much of a case to justify him demanding 25 million a year.

I would not give Eli a big contract right now. I don't know how you can say he doesn't have enough talent around him though? He has way more talent than almost every other ab in the league. If you are talking about defense, then that's another story and to say Jerry has neglected that side of the ball would be an understatement.
Watching some of his play during the preseason so far, it appears

Eli no longer has the arm strength to get the ball deep and to zip one between defenders. Just mu observation.

Really, Eli has had plenty of talent around him and has been given way more chances than any other QB in the league. Look how good the Giants were in his younger years despite mostly horrible play by him. Now the Giants aren't nearly as good as they were and he hasnt led this team to any kind of turnaround, with the exception of the end of 2011, since what 2008, 2009.

I think this guy signed up just to troll this thread. August 2015 and this is the only one he's posted in.

If you think the Giants have been good "despite horrible play" by Eli, you are either just spouting bullshit to get a rise out of people (trolling), or just have absolutely no idea what the fuck you're looking at when you watch football.

The only two years where I can say Eli was "bad" was 2013 and I guess 04. Even in 2010 I thought he had a pretty good year that looked statically worse than it was because of the bizarre anomaly amount of INTso off WR's hands.
It's the same nonsense as always
PaulN : 8/31/2015 8:45 pm : link
When Eli is finally gone, then the assholes will appreciate him, he won 2 Superbowls with so so teams, not dominant teams at all, in fact the Giants were not the best team when they won those two rings, yet people still want to depreciate how good he is. The reason we are struggling is we have a bad GM, who wants to continue to add skill players when what he needed to do above everything was to give Eli a really good OLine, then Eli will make so so receivers look like pro bowlers, like he did with Manningham, Cruz and Nicks.

Eli has too many flaws to his game

he is JAG. He couldn't take Seattle or Green Bay to the playoffs if he was their QB. I am greatful for what we got out of him but ready to face the future without him. The sooner the better
Eli has 3 to 5 "elite" years left.
SGMen : 8/31/2015 9:26 pm : link
Folks, if we had been spared 3 injuries on offense last year Eli would have put up SICK numbers: Beckham early, Cruz early and Schwarz for the year.

If we had Beckham day 1 I think he'd have worked himself into the #1 job by week 4 for sure and demanded double teaming. That would have made Cruz an impossible underneath matchup for most corners and an almost automatic 3rd down conversion.

Losing Schwarz killed our interior OL. He was the only one who cold run block. If he had been healthy maybe Richburg is the starting OC by game 4 and the JD Walton agonies would have taken a back seat?

My point: Eli has an elite arm and brain but hasn't had the total talent around him that Rodgers, Romo and others have had during their best years. When he did in 2011 with Cruz emerging do you remember him carrying the team to the Super Bowl victory?

I think Eli will put up great numbers this year because we will run much better than last year. Beckham is here game #1 and by mid-season Cruz will hopefully be tough to stop underneath again.

Unfortunately, my prayer that TE Robinson would FINALLY develop just hasn't come to pass and that hurts. I really, really was hoping he'd pull a "Donnelly" and come out of nowhere and surprise people. Maybe Cunningham can be a surprise target with Donnelly improving a bit in all areas as well.

Eli is 35 and can play til he is 39 IF he doesn't sustain major injury or take a beating behind the OL. Max protect and let the wideouts do their jobs.

67% passing, 4,500 yards, 35 TDs, 11 interceptions, 3 fumbles lost due to line. I honest believe he'll be that good despite Beatty's injury.
Seattles OL stinks as does GB

If a QB is a statue with no escapability it is a huge limitation. A turnover machine is a killer. Take the rose colored glasses off and don't bother telling us about the 2 time SB MVP award voted on by fans and sports writers. The same sports writers we dump on regularly.

Let's completely ignore the fact that our passing offense was predicated under a high risk - high reward attack.

no one knows what will happen tomorrow or next year as far as injuries go but if you're the Giants you believe Eli is a good to great option at QB and you keep him right here for as long as you can. You can't plan on career ending injuries but the Giants should and do trust Eli for the long term.

I'd like to see this season play out before I proclaim that this team doesn't have enough talent to compete with the star QB.

YOUNG TEAM. Say it with me....YOUNG TEAM. Let this thing breathe for fuck's sake. Let things develop and progress and let's talk in 5 months. It's premature to sit here and condemn a young team before it's had any chance to marinate. All I see are posts killing the talent. Half of these guys on defense have never even started but many of them have flashed some. How the hell does anyone know anything about this group? We just don't.

Totally agree and well said..Lots of negativity(before any real bullets fly) under the guise of being "objective." The point is we just don't know at this point..We really don't imo..Oh wait, there are "signs." In preseason yet..:)
