A wise person once said, “if we know who buys our NASCAR drivers, shouldn’t we know who buys our politicians?” Helping to fill that void is 17-year-old Nick Rubin, who created a browser plugin (aka a web-based app) last year to help citizens find out exactly who’s funding our members of the Congress, how much they made, and how that money influences the elections among other details. The plugin called Greenhouse works with Chrome, Firefox or Safari browsers, and it can be downloaded at www.allaregreen.us. After installation, when a politician’s name comes up in article text, the app will break down their top ten monetary influences. The plugin is free and simple to use, as noted in this article by Vice.com. “Greenhouse allows people to see the money story behind the news story,” said Rubin to Vice. The name Greenhouse was created by combining three symbolic ideas: the color of money, the two houses of Congress, and the transparency of a greenhouse. In an interview with Vice, Rubin said he wanted to “put the data at people’s fingertips” for people to be able to make the most informed decision when it comes to politics. |
my first reaction without reading more than the quoted text was it's probably a list of every single politician since they're all about greed and self-interest and not about representing their constituency.
Maybe that's cynical of me, but I believe every politician has a price and an agenda and will sell out for either one.
Yeah, no conflict of interest.....
Didn't you just crow last week about how you're never the one to go after someone first in a thread?
But, I expect nothing less.
Yeah, no conflict of interest.....
Actually you would be surprised how many take funds from both sides of the aisle from anyone who is throwing it out there.
One thing they are in unison of bipartisanship.
If it could work, it WOULD be helpful, because reporters and bloggers would do most of the work. But, it can't where ti really matters.
You should probably see a doctor about your fungus problems.
Sounds like a bargain. I'll pay half.
So he built this when he was like 15?

I've been using it for the past year or so. I was hoping he would have built on it a little more.

Either that or the writer was referring back to when the kid was 17. I found it on the Daily Beast over a year ago.
They will still take the money, because without it they are toast.
Sounds like a bargain. I'll pay half.
Perhaps you should see someone to find out why you fly into tirades over something someone posts on the internet.
If you go on another tirade like that, you'll have a heart attack.
Why?
You guys are friends? be a good friend and tell her to stop being a cockhead continually.
Randy, I like you but I had to laugh at this description you gave because,well...you kind of described yourself. :-p
Shh. He's on a roll.
