If Kuhn or Beason or Mcclain or Herzlich....

NYRiese : 8/31/2015 5:43 pm
or Jerry are on the final roster but Unga and Hart are not will you entertain joining the "Coughlin must go" crowd?
Immediately
Big Blue '56 : 8/31/2015 5:46 pm : link
as will 99% of the other BBIers
Beason is going to be on the final roster
Bold Ruler : Mod : 8/31/2015 5:50 pm : link
Unga will be too.
Kuhn started with the Dline again
Les in TO : 8/31/2015 5:56 pm : link
today. Unless the Giants are cleverly using Kuhn as a decoy and intend to use Ellis or Bromley for most of the DT snaps, he is starting. meaning, there is going to be a big fat gaping hole up the middle of our defense as Hankins will be double teamed, a guard or tackle will easily block Kuhn and RBs will be five yards down the field before a defender can smell them. and that's on the chef, not the buyer of the ingredients.

How many LB's do you think they'll keep BR?

Beason
Kennard
JT Thomas
are locks (if Beason is healthy)

Casillas (if healthy probably next)

and then

Herzlich
McClain
Unga

only two of these three will make it if they keep 6 LB's like last year
Maybe the coaches keep starting Kuhn at DT

Why does Reese keep planning on Beason? The man is NEVER healthy.
will be hard to keep both kuhn and jenkins

1 will most likely get cut

still have faith in TC and his coaching staff to do all they can to make this team the best it can be. The terrible talent pool he has been given the past 5/6 years is the problem for this team's decline. ELI is not the problem either imo. Get rid of those responsible for that.

Wishful thinking.
Kuhn, McLain, Beason and Herzlich
BillT : 8/31/2015 6:23 pm : link
Are a lock to be on the roster. Hart will be too if he's healthy. Unga Is a
PS guy most likely.
Don't sleep on Ashlee Palmer
FranknWeezer : 8/31/2015 6:26 pm : link
I wouldn't be surprised a bit to see him make the team at one of the backup LB spots.
There is some chance that Unga is good on defense.
Mike from SI : 8/31/2015 6:26 pm : link
There is no chance that Herzlich is good on defense. I'll be quite upset if Herzlich stays over Unga.
Kuhn and Herzlich are clearly Coughlin "guys"

Did anyone watch Unga against the Jets
ciggy : 8/31/2015 6:33 pm : link
I can't say I watched every play but whenever I looked he was getting knocked backwards by RBs and trailing badly on pass coverage. I would be curious to hear what his grades were. By he looked overmatched in that game.

According to PFF, Unga and Cullen Jenkins were the only D players graded over 1.0 (several other positive players between 0 and 1).

Unga also graded out positive vs. CIN and a slight negative week 2 vs JAX.

He's (according to PFF) the 2nd highest rated defensive player after Trevin Wade (and he's tied with Cole Farrand)

ROFLMAO....good one, dude!
Beason is a lock
Gman11 : 8/31/2015 8:12 pm : link
which is why they need McClain (he's #2 MLB).

I can't see keeping Herzlich over Unga, but what do I know?
BTW
Gman11 : 8/31/2015 8:14 pm : link
Jerry is going to start either at RG or RT depending on what happens with Schwartz. I would not be surprised to see Jerry as the starting RG and Schwartz the RT and Newhouse as the reserve RT.
Also the weight room
Les in TO : 8/31/2015 8:14 pm : link
He put on 20 pounds of muscle and brought his body fat down

Being German, he is likely habitually punctual. Another check mark in the Coughlin book.

He also plays until the whistle even if he's been pushed 20 yards downfield.

I've seen this story before. Moore sits on the sidelines while another Coughlin guy Kiwanuka who has a big fork on his back gets the playing time while Romo has all day to throw in leading the Cowboys back to victory.

Thought I read sometime ago that Reese has final say on the 53.
Watson : 8/31/2015 8:43 pm : link
Obviously TC has alot of input. I'm sure he comes up with the list and than there is discussion. Anyone know how decision is made? Am I mis-remembering?
What SanFran said
TD : 8/31/2015 8:57 pm : link
The fact that Reese relies on guys like Beason (and Schwartz) as part of the plan is an indictment of Reese.

Beason and Schwartz can't be relied on - period. They're not even first-off-the-bench types bc those types need to be reliable. Year-in and year-out there are a few walking injury cases penciled in as starters. It's almost as if Reese wants a built-in excuse for the annual nosedive. Most injured team blah blah blah... Who would have thought?!?!

I'm on Team Coughlin until the day I die. TC can coach the Giants for as long as he so chooses, but... sometimes he can't get out of his own way, and you know this to be the truth. He is loyal to a fault and his personnel choices have been suspect.
Good in the film room and playbook
George from PA : 8/31/2015 10:05 pm : link
I can get them over 100 kids at NYU media school that would be good in the film room and playbook.

If Kuhn starts, our defense is so screwed......giving up 5 yards on first down..put too much pressure.

I hope it is meant to motivate Bromley and Ellis to step up with the fundamentals
i wonder why this hasn't gone full chip kelly yet.

On Coughlin?
If Joe Torre wore out his welcome, why is Coughlin immune?
David in LA : 9/1/2015 12:16 am : link
both provided some of the most amazing memories, but there comes a time where you have to question whether they still have it in them. IMO Torre and Coughlin could have done more with their teams. Coughlin has these odd blind spots when it comes to evaluating talent or having the foresight to cut the chord sooner than later. If we bomb this year, Reese will stay and get to pick his own coach.
Stupid premise. Coughlin will be judged by the won-loss record. Like
Victor in CT : 9/1/2015 8:39 am : link
every other coach. And this "Coughlin" is too loyal to his guys narrative is beyond ridiculous. The 3 LBs are there because they have no other options. Ask Reese about that.

Ask for Kuhn, I have a fucking clue what they see in him.
Who actually..
FatMan in Charlotte : 9/1/2015 8:43 am : link
follows this team and thinks Beason could possibly be cut?

You want him cut because he's been injured? WTF?

He's been a Giant two years. He played every game he was on the team for in 2013 and last year he missed 12 games. So logic infers he won't play much?

This place really has gone to the depths and the regular season hasn't even started.
Oh C'mon... we all know so much more than the staff
grizz299 : 9/1/2015 8:52 am : link

We have a million fleas here,,,floating down the river on their backs with a tiny erection and yelling "Open the Drawbridge".

The idea that we can see things that TC can't is just that silly. Several players including Jenkins have gone out of their way to laud Kuhn. If he's playing there is almost certainly a good reason and we simply don't know enough about assignments, roles etc.

The fact that both players are white is interesting and I would think that a team (and that includes all teams)
that is extremely racial conscious and if they thought those two players were getting special treatment it would be brought up and would be disastrous. To me, in a world that's reversing things, the fact that they're white almost certainly means they're not getting special treatment.
And I know that there's many here that would argue with that statement with a great deal of cogency and merit.

And btw, our former defensive co-ordinator liked those two players too and I'm betting now it's Spags and not TC making those selections. So it's two defensive coordinators that we all know more than. Idiots....full time idiots making millions of dollars with staffs of a thousand assistants and data bases of film to study every night AND I KNOW MUCH MORE THAN TC, REESE AND SPAGS PUT TOGETHER, JUST ASK ME.

Additionally, there was an anti Kuhn blogger who reviewed the tape of the Cincy (??) game in detail and came away with a different opinion after his study. So yeah, I don't see it either, but I'm in the category of a guy who started at Smallsville College fifty years ago and wasn't an expert then and barely understand the complexity of the modern game...I'm the flea that says "It's OK , you can leave the drawbridge down, I'll just slide underneath with plenty to spare....""" Damn" damn damn"
re Kuhn: that should say I have NO fucking clue what
Victor in CT : 9/1/2015 9:06 am : link
they see in him.
Kuhn
rickrossa : 9/1/2015 9:27 am : link
The guy seriously looks worse this year than he ever has. I've watched all his plays in preseason about 5 times each and 90% of the time he can't come close to holding his ground on the run and just like always, has no push to the QB on a pass whatsoever. So when they throw a screen and he can't even disrupt that, makes me wonder what does this guy actually do? No idea what the coaching staff is doing here. Guy should not make the team this year.
I know why the keep Kuhn
xman : 9/1/2015 12:01 pm : link

brilliantly packaged and marketed. Part of that brilliant marketing is that the guys who coach it well are called "geniuses" and normal mortal humans are told they aren't qualified to even comment on their genius. We're told the game is far, far too complex for us to understand. The coaches see these guys every day in practice they have forgotten more then we'll ever know right? Great article from Raanan this week about following Moore in practice. He gets just as little chance to impress in practice as he does in games. So how is he going to beat out an old Jenkins playing out of position and out of gas?

The reality is that from the seat on your coach you can see all of the really dumb things most NFL coaches do every week. When you follow a team closely you can really question why decisions are being made. Of course you're told by the team and it's sycophants that you're not qualified to even ask the question let alone deserve an answer. But guys like Herzlich & Kuhn are on the team because the coaches like them and are comfortable they'll follow the program and company line. Not because they're good football players because EVERYONE can see they're not good football players. Other players like Beason or draft picks are on the team because the GM picked them and it's in his career best interests for him to be a good picker. Every team has guys, most of their rosters, that are on the team for those reasons. In the end the NFL is more like other businesses than most realize. It's who you know, who hired you more than how good are you at your job. That's the number one thing a coaching change brings. A cleaning out of all the guys who are average and below and on the team because the coaches and GM "were comfortable" with them. That's why Brown is back when there will be a dozen guys younger and healthier with more talent that are driving UPS trucks in a week. It's who you know and who hired you.
Well..
FatMan in Charlotte : 9/1/2015 3:30 pm : link
at least that validates your stupidity.

I watch NASCAR and think, "Hey, these guys are just going in a circle, I could do that" and then you see the dumb things they do to get in crashes.

Jesus - most fans can't even comprehend what they are seeing on the field - that is why the game threads are a train wreck. They have an emotional response to a good or bad play that completely erases rational thought. If a 4th and 1 play is stopped, half the people will blame the OC, and the rest will blame the players.

To put it in perspective, how many times do people give the opposition credit? In my lifetime, every Goiants loss has been because they beat themselves, not because the other team was better, thus, every loss is a blame game. We were outcoached. We came out flat. Eli played like crap. The defense sucks.

That isn't knowing more than coaches who do this for a living - it is whining and bitching, and frankly arniefez, you do this shit constantly. If you really think you know more than coaches, not only are you deluded, chances are you are a pretty big imbecile.
