Need better way for NFL teams to trade excesses/deficits

I know part of the issue is the CBA, and part is the sheer size of rosters needed in the NFL, and part is the challenge in learning a new system late in preseason. Nevertheless, it has always frustrated me that when a team like the Giants has an injury disaster on one squad--in this case DBs--and possible surpluses in others--in this case at wr and rb--there isn't an effective auction/swap system.

Considering that a larger proportion of players get injured than any other major sport, and that trades are more difficult than any other major sport, there ought to be a way to fix that.

And, of course, there seems to be a reluctance to trade low draft picks for backup players to fill holes, and the Giants seem to be as reluctant as any team.

And if the issue is the salary cap, this year the Giants have a solution: get rid of Weatherford and keep Malone, for close to $2 million in cap space. I wouldn't say this if Weatherford seemed worth $2.75 million, minus a small guarantee.

Thoughts?
Weatherford is proven and clutch despite

Interestingly, there were a bunch of low-level trades today.
