With a porous D, expect shootouts with big numbers from Eli

SirSirob : 8/31/2015 7:44 pm
With our defense somewhat suspect, I anticipate other teams will score easily. We will have to reciprocate Eli throwing a lot to our offensive weapons. We'll win some, we'll lose some, but in the end we will have some ridiculous numbers from Eli and Odell.
The truth is

The Giants are going to need Eli to play close to his 2011 level if they are going to compete. Even though the starting offense has looked poor this preseason I am excited to see what this offense does this season. They have obviously been holding back as they usually do in the preseason. Vereen is going to prove to be a huge asset and younger players like Beckham, Randle, Donnell, and Williams will be improved to go along with Cunningham who I expect to catch 30-35 passes this season. Obviously the offensive lines performance will go a long way in dictating how the offense performs but there is a lot of young talent there.
going to a shootout

with three empty barrels = no running game.
I hope so

I have Eli in 2 leagues, most likely will be 3.
Part of the problem is

The offense over the last few years has been really bad in the first quarter. Last year they only scored 35 points in the first Q in their first 12 games, less than a FG per quarter. You would think the offense typically has the upper hand with a week to game plan and script the first few series to throw off the defense. But combined with bad defense the Giants were digging themselves out of holes. The yardage and td stats may look pretty but a lot of it was of garbage time variety against prevent defendes. The offense and play calling needs to be more inspired this year so we're not always coming from behind

good and I think Eli is in for a rough season.
I think the offense will get going

provided OBJ and Cruz suit up.

But yeah, I see a lot of 40-38 games coming.
Shoot outs are great but we know what happens wjfh
Shockwave : 8/31/2015 8:52 pm : link
Eli...he will start throwing INT's left and right.

Expect 30+ TD's this season with 20-25 INT's

Oh yeah
blueblood'11 : 8/31/2015 10:09 pm : link
I hope your right. At least early on because I think it is going to take awhile until this defense is anything to get excited about.

Wrong. This is a QB-WR friendly offense. Those days of Gilbride's 25-INTs offense is gone. Eli threw 14 INTs last year, but 5 in one game alone.

The only reason why Eli won't win shootouts is because TC will put a cap on Eli.
The left side of the line seems to be quite good.
81_Great_Dane : 8/31/2015 11:37 pm : link
We're used to the right side being the maulers, with Snee & McKenzie, but I look for the Giants to run left a lot, and for Flowers and Pugh to do a good job opening holes.

Sho, I think I know what Shockwave is saying.

He is saying that the fact the defense is so bad the Giants offense will feel as if they are starting from behind before the game ever starts. The pressure will be so great on them to score on almost every possession just to keep up that it will lead to an increased amount of forced errors regardless of the offensive "scheme"

Sizable deficit + shaky o-line + increased QB pressure + more pass attempts under pressure = sacks/interceptions/turnovers

Giants may be able to pull out a shootout here and there. But to ask them to do it over the course of 16 games is not realistic without any help from its defense that as of now, does not appear to have the ability in terms of talent to make a positive contribution and help the team win enough games.
Problem
Dragon : 9/1/2015 4:46 am : link
Is that this team today has shown us nothing to look forward to and that has been the case for the past three season. Then we will begin the season on prime time and we still have more questions than answers on offense and defense. The Dallas game hopefully will tell us the truth about this team but in truth we never know what kind of team we will see from week to week. Eli will be key early but even that is as always a week to week major question of which Eli will show up.

I'm not sure what you expected from the defense with our QB(Beason) never getting practice time or game time and going out there with no starting caliber DEs or safeties(Collins isn't quite there yet)......AND KUHN STARTING...WHAT THE HELL TOM?
The defense isn't gonna be that good this year though. They will become decent by the end of the year and maybe even sniff the top ten but they will not be giving anybody nightmares? There are way more resources dumped into the offense so they will have to carry the team.
The problem is Eli has never ran a top tier offense and although I think he will have one of his best seasons, hits best seasons still aren't that good. A 12 year get should not be making multiple rookie mistakes week in and week out. There's no fire left in him. I'm almost ready to see what Nassib can bring to the table, if we don't see a whole new and improved Eli by week 4 or 5.
Shoot outs..?..
silverfox : 9/1/2015 7:14 am : link
...seriously, I can see throwing a million times a game and putting up ridiculous passing yards (because we are far behind), but shoot-outs (as in producing 30-40 a game tit-for-tat with other offenses)...when the hell has that ever happened in your lifetime with this team?

Hell, they can't even score most of the time until late first quarter or the second quarter and by then its usually too late anyway.

Yes, its obvious the Giants must be able to get into shoot outs in order to have any chance at all at saving TC again...but the chances of that happening are so low, its not even funny anymore, and we all know that.

High scoring games...
x meadowlander : 9/1/2015 7:26 am : link
...Giants almost certainly on the losing end of most. I attribute that to 2 factors - SAFETY and the extinction of the great string of All-Pro DE's from the roster. No more Stra, Osi, Tuck, JPP. Not even a Kiwi. Blitz all you want, you're not going to offset that. In Spagnulo's prime, he always had at least a pair of deadly bookend DE's.

But Safety is the biggest red flag.

Somehow, impossibly, the Giants are repeating the same mistakes from 2009.

And like 2009, they get to play Drew Brees in New Orleans. Drew likes teams with bad safeties. A LOT.

CC Brown, anyone?

This isn't fun for me. I'm the eternal preseason optimist. This is the first time I've had preseason vibes this negative since Dave Brown.
