Eli on failing to connect on deep passes so far: 'It happens. It takes time" #giants
One thing many of the BBI lore doesnt understand is that if you dont have timing with the WR, misthrows, especially depp ones, are going to happen. Beckham is just starting to practice every day, Cruz hasnt in who knows long, Randle missed a lot of practice time..... people need to realize that timing happens with repetition. So if the guy isnt out there...... you cant get that timing.
So when Eli misses a throw in preseason, its not the end of the world. If Eli is missing the same throw in week 3, week 4 - then yes, you can panic then.
But if Eli hits OBJ for a 60 yard TD in week 1, its because he made the adjustments from a meaningless preseason game. Thats why, you know... , they play those games. They are glorified practices.
tend to believe, that week 1, a switch goes on, and everything is firing on all cylinders, MacAdoo unveils never seen before tricks and gadgets that are sure fire successes and the playbook is deep and plentiful, full of 1st down conversions !!!
we haven't even had a complete 1st team WR unit on the field at the same time working with the QB, its going to be a work in progress deep into the regular season ...
Spags and Nunn also get a big say in that. I can't imagine they're all delusional?! He must be fantastic against John Jerry in practice, which would give them that impression obviously because JJ sucks at run blocking. It just does not translate to the field and I'm sure the staff is reviewing film. I think the better question for TC would be why Ellis or Bromley are not getting the opportunity to start with the 1s. Hopefully we see a change Thurs.

continuity and execution is what pre-season is for ... continuity and execution or lack there of is what gave us a 6-10 record in 14', and 7-9 in 13' ...
that is a pattern building here, if we were to use line charts, it would be pointing downward for 15' ... bc so far this preseason, correct me if I am wrong here, have we witnessed any continuity or execution in any phase of football ?

To me, the more important thing is Beckum getting free and open. The throws from Eli, they will get there.
I'm more concerned when I don't see seperation from the coverage.
Preseason is for analyzing and evaluating players in as close to real game situations as possible. It's not for calming down the fanbase, boosting morale, or passing the eye test. Yes you can get data out of it. It does not mean that what you see is what you get.
I've seen two different posters chew you up and spit you out the last few days. You simply change your argument or start wandering off in a different direction. I won't waste my time.
You're basically here to stir the pot. It's a nice schtick for you but it gets old. And no, you haven't irritated me or anything you might enjoy. I will simply add you to my ignore list from this point on.
Established veterans and known starters, it is for getting live action and just getting hit and getting the body used to being hit and tackling again....
If you ask a veteran what their goal is in preseason, they will say it is to get a little bit better and get out healthy...that is it...
coughlin is strategically the most boring preseason coach I've ever seen. he knows we are underdogs heading to DAL,perhaps outmatched, but he also knows we have an element of surprise.
he will keep his competitive advantage of them having no idea what we'll be doing when we get there. winning week 1 is all that matters

Oh i agree 100%...
I dont think it is necessarily trying not to get hurt, they jsut know they are only going to be in the game for a set number of plays and they try to get in and out unscathed...
Also when you know your only going to play a certain amount of plays it is very hard to get the competitive juices flowing and ready to compete...

I do not get why people are thinking they are so much better than the Giants?..
They came off a 12-4 season. Although they lost Murray it appears they upgraded that defensive front significantly. We were 6-10 last year and haven't beaten them since 2012. Until we beat them a game they are a lot better, and that's such a tough thing to say

so why do we look outmatched and dreadful during the regular season ? do you not think TC, out of all the coaches in the NFL, does not take stake in the preseason ? you are smarter than that FATMAN ...
We've looked so outmatched and dreadful in the regular season that we've had two losing seasons since 2004.
Having watched this team for 42 years or so (and damn I feel old typing that), very rarely has preseason translated into the regular season results. That's why guys like Sean Bennett became legends. It is why Eli has never done well in the preseason and is a two time SB MVP.
i really don't know how smart it is to realize this, but it certainly is dumb to not realize it.
here that claims to be a long time follower of the team bases their opinion on the upcoming season on preseason. I was around during the "15 years of lousy football" when the planes were flying over the stadium. I was around for "Goodbye Allie". If you went by their preseason performance in some of those years, you were pumped, but reality bitch slapped you once the regular season started. "Long Time" fans here are either full of crap, have selective memories, or dementia has set in. They well could stink this year, but going by the preseason games?
One thing Leonard explains is that progress in mastering a skill isn't linear. You work on assimilating a set of skills, reach a level, plateau there, then when they click you make a jump to a peak. But then, you move on to the next level of skills, come down a little off that peak and settle in at a new plateau, higher than the first. So progress isn't a steady slope, it's a series of plateaus, like climbing a staircase.
You could try staying at one of those peaks, instead of dropping down to a lower plateau while you work on your skill set, but then you won't improve.
With Eli, I can never tell whether he's trying to add new stuff to his game in preseason, or whether he just takes a while to get himself together. He never seems to be sharp over the course of an entire preseason schedule. We seem to have this conversation every year. But last year we know he was trying to assimilate new skills (McAdoo's offense), so you wouldn't expect him to look sharp.
This year there was talk about adding to the new O and about Eli working on some new things in the offseason. If so, then the fact that Eli looks like he's struggling in the preseason may just be the normal process of adding to his game. But we'd have to hope he's ready to make that next step up pretty early in the season.

He definitely survives today. Saturday greater unknown, but they seem to like him.
Unless he's absolutely horrible on specials, it's hard not seeing him make the team. He's been arguably the best LB on the team in preseason.
Figure they keep 6 LBs:
Kennard
Thomas
Beason
McClain
Casillas
He's gotta be the 6th, especially since Herzlich's missed some time. And while it's a long shot, I can see them parting with McClain.
The #Giants just ran a play where Julian Talley threw a completion to Juron Criner
Where in the parking lot?

They have Romo to Whitten and over the last two seasons that's all they've needed to beat the Giants unfortunately.
