with regard to the 53. Chances are they're going to cut someone who is a borderline player who worked their ass off all summer.....JPP acts like a jerk, doesn't communicate with the team, will show up whenever he wants for a spot waiting for him.

Does he really think he can come in just before week 1 and sign his tender and the Giants are just going to say, great, here's your $14.8m. The Giants said they would not put him on the NFI if he came in for camp but he didn't do that.
You have to think the NFI is in his future if for no reason but to give him time to get in shape. So he's not going to get his $14.8m unless the Giants decide to pay him while he's on NFI which they can do but you would think they aren't really motivated to do that given JPP's behavior.
Forget the finger. If he can't grip be can't play. You can measure grip strength. When he can at least argue he can perform he will show up. Which means maybe not this year.
Until someone other than his people look at him there's no way anyone will know anything.
He is looking out for himself. It at least he thinks he's
Making the best choices. Intellectually I understand that point of view but IMO he's made a huge mistake. No team is going to take him on faith next year. He's getting a one year prove it contract with incentives unless he shows up at some point and that at not be for a while. This year he won't make shit compared to what he should have even w the tender I hope he didn't blow all his cash on that July 4th party.

Strange.
The Giants never said they wouldn't nfi him if he reported for camp. That was a rumor that was clearly wrong. If it was true jpp would have reported
The most troubling is the fact that when you receive skin grafts like
did, you are not allowed to sweat through that skin for quite awhile. That means that it is very likely that he has been unable to do any sort of conditioning.
To expect him to contribute at all this year would be foolish

Good post

Agree Joe..It's more than "just a finger" apparently..Perhaps much more
The Giants never said they wouldn't nfi him if he reported for camp. That was a rumor that was clearly wrong. If it was true jpp would have reported
The Giants very much wanted him in camp and were willing to negotiate some arrangement for him to do so. Whether that was no NFI or NFI with pay or partial pay or whatever there was going to be and would have had to be some incentive for JPP to do so.
Forget the finger. If he can't grip be can't play. You can measure grip strength. When he can at least argue he can perform he will show up. Which means maybe not this year.
The problem with this is that if he doesn't show up he doesn't get paid anf if he doesn't show up by week 10 this year the Giants can franchise him again. You have to think he's going to show up sooner rather than later. The Giants would have made a deal with him to show up for camp.

Of course they wanted him in camp, but they weren't going to negotiate anything until after they gave him a physical. Without knowing the condition of his hand, you can't even speculate as to what the negotiations would entail.

I never said they wouldn't give him a physical. and I never said they would negotiate before they did so. and there are a limited number of options available.
the Giants don't take a chance on him, out of desperation....
At this moment in time, the Giant defense has too many holes, and they are trying to fill them with players coming back from injury, and guys that are unproven....
Adding JPP to the mix is not going to change this defense that much....
For one thing, no one, I mean no one knows what kind of shape he is in....no one knows how long it will take for that hand(amputation, skin grafts, surgically repaired thumb), to not only heal, but heal to the point where it can take the abuse, an NFL defensive lineman, will put it through.....to have him come back, part way into the season, let him play into shape, and risk the chance of him hurting that hand while playing, is not an option they should take....They should approach this season, with the thought, he will not be back this year....
So the question is not, do the Giants think he is a viable option this year, but is he an option for next year? They control his destiny......but if he does not play this year, do the want to tag him again the following year? And we go though this whole scenario again, where he might not show up until the opening game....
Isn't it true though that if he comes in to sign his tag, physically ready or not, they have to let him sign it or withdraw it. I would think if they let him sign it they could still NFI him and control the situation that way. Otherwise be becomes a FA.
Too many holes from DT to Line backers to safety and even the cornerbacks are injury prone... I have never had such bad hopes from our defense as I do this year
Doesn't this mean we're going to have another 15 million in cap space.??
They allowed themselves to be put in a position in a win now year of carrying cap space. I think the tender - which was an overpayment before the accident - should have been withdrawn and the money spent on 15 million more free agents which should have bought you about four or five players of the guard from PHilly who signed with Denver..
Four of five quality free agents and this way we have no free agents and No JPP.
were asking big bucks, so you were not going to get 4 or 5 players.....and the decision on JPP would have had to have been made before the draft, not after he blew his hand up...
I don't mind the medical opinions from non-doctors
You can google the effects of various afflictions. What annoys me is people saying "his hand is messed up beyond repair."
We literally know nothing beyond the amputation. It's 100% plausible that, if he were in football shape, he'd be ready to play tomorrow. Now he's almost certainly not in football shape, but that is just because he hasn't been in camp or taken a preseason snap.
I have zero idea how this injury is going to impact him. no one does.
Who really gives a shit. He's not here and who knows how fucking long it will be. And or how effective he'll be when comes back or if he ever comes back. So why obsess over it. He's not here period. They have to figure this thing out without him. Maybe it will make them a better team knowing they all have to pick up the slack. With any luck they'll turn into a really good cohesive defense then they can tell JPP to fuck off and save themselves a ton of money against the cap next year.
were asking big bucks, so you were not going to get 4 or 5 players.....and the decision on JPP would have had to have been made before the draft, not after he blew his hand up...
Agreed. The mistake was franchising him in the first place instead off trading him a while back.

But when he shows up if he can't grip he goes on the NFI. He can argue he can play but the. He has to rely on some type of arbitration if he gets put on that list if he wants to fight it. To me by avoiding the team and refusing to come in he pretty much obliterated any good will from the team's perspective.
He's telling JPP - "You have a very weak negotiating position, if you show up LOOKING like you do, right now, forget getting the money you want ....
"Best thing to do is STAY AWAY and get healed".
In Parker's mind, the Giants' "concern and goodwill" is so much hog-wash. I'm sure he (Parker), inside is very pissed that this kid (JPP) has jeopardized his (Parker's) paycheck. .... So he tells him - "look, it's OK, just do exactly what I tell you"
The Giants never said they wouldn't nfi him if he reported for camp. That was a rumor that was clearly wrong. If it was true jpp would have reported

I agree they were willing to negotiate after seeing the hand, but they never offered no NFI just to show up. That would have been idiotic on their part.
But they could have just pulled the tender after seeing the hand as well so I could see why JPP would be reluctant to do that.
WHat happens if JPP never comes back, doesn't sign tender ?
Does anyone know if JPP sits out this year ( which i think he will ) does he become an UFA next year ?
Whether he reports or not I think he'll become a free agent after the season.
I don't see the Giants applying the franchise tag to him again next year which I assume (could be wrong) is what they'd have to do to keep him.
if he doesn't report at all this year the Giants can carry over the 15M in cap space JPP forfeited (if they still have it by the end of the year) onto next year's cap.
They could pull the tender.
