Something to kill time while we wait for the Giants' cuts. The Yankees have called up eight players as September call-up - Dustin Ackley, Andrew Bailey, Caleb Cotham, Rico Noel, James Pazos, Jose Pirela, Rob Refsnyder, and Austin Romine.
Only surprise is Rico Noel, who is not hitting his weight, but is a base stealing machine.
Sorry folks no Aaron Judge.

Bailey's looked good this year. He can definitely help shorten games.
Refsnyder's not a burner, but will can probably steal 10-15 a year and won't clog the bases. Other than that, there's not much speed on the way (maybe Slade/Mason as 4th OFers) until Mateo arrives!
IDK if it is tragic, he'll continue to get chances because he is talented, but it is unlikely a team will entrust him with a 40-man spot if he doesn't pick it up.
They're bringing up Noel because they don't want to burn Mateo's options by adding him to the 40-man when he won't contribute regularly.
Mateo probably starts at Tampa next year, maybe Trenton but that would be a bit of a surprise. If he could finish the year at AA he might get a call-up. If he really hits SWB wouldn't be out of the question.
That's irrelevant since Noel wasn't on the 40 man either.
That said, I agree with your 1st point: they needed a pinch runner off the bench with guys like Arod, McCann, Teix, and Beltran.
And Judge has struggled adjusting to AAA pitching. He doesn't need to be rushed.
I agree! I just hope they take their revenge tonight and bury the stinking Bosox under a huge wave of runs, like they did to the Atlanta Braves on the weekend. Go Yankees!!

I think the callups were all sound moves - except Cotham because he seems like he has been learning more than we'd like from Capuano.
