Wing was an absolute monster at LSU. Not sure how he's doing in the pros.

Why do I feel like this has Matt Dodge written all over it.
Know nothing about him..

Anyone familiar with this guy other than from reading material on him?
Im sorry
Deej : 9/4/2015 11:38 am : link
we are not in a position to be wasting draft picks trading for punters. We have no depth and this isnt a final piece of the puzzle type move.
LSU punter
yupbjac27 : 9/4/2015 11:38 am : link
deal referenced above was he ended up scoring a TD on either a botched FG run or a fake punt run against Florida I believe. Took it to the house and was holding the ball out while high stepping into the end zone.

Bomb of a leg, not sure what hes done with Pittsburgh
sounds like a gigantic douche of a person
GMenLTS : 9/4/2015 11:39 am : link
but also sounds like a talented punter

GP : 9/4/2015 11:39 am : link
Steeler fan buddy says he bombs the ball routinely with the occasional total shank. Directional punting "not the greatest"

there's a couple of decent punters on the wires at the moment. There will be a bunch more come the cut down.

In 2014, Wing signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers to serve as the punter and holder for field goals and PATs. In the fourth quarter of a game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, his punt went only 29 yards, giving the ball to the Buccaneers at the Steelers' 46-yard line with 40 seconds to go. The Buccaneers scored the game-winning touchdown a few plays later.[12]

In a game against the Baltimore Ravens on November 2, 2014, following a botched snap on a point-after kick for which Wing was the holder, Wing completed a pass to Matt Spaeth for a two-point conversion.

Is he also a holder?

A Wing and a prayer?

I don't get this if it's true
illmatic : 9/4/2015 11:40 am : link
Why Wing over guys like Zastudil and Fields? They can't be seeking THAT much money. And to give up a draft pick for what is pretty much an untested punter, even if it's a 7th rounder. It just seems odd.
Anakim, you are fast
ColHowPepper : 9/4/2015 11:40 am : link
on the draw (:
Late round draft pick
jcn56 : 9/4/2015 11:40 am : link
If it's a 6th or lower, then your chances of finding anyone that spends significant time on a roster doing anything but exchanging air for carbon dioxide are slim to none.
With all the kickers cut already
old man : 9/4/2015 11:41 am : link
they want to trade for one.
That Matt Dodge fear comment: ditto.
This must be a 'family' thing between the Rooneys and Maras.
.
arcarsenal : 9/4/2015 11:41 am : link
NYG must really like what they've seen to give up a late pick for him considering there are other options that wouldn't have cost any.
my concern is less with the punting
YANKEE28 : 9/4/2015 11:41 am : link
and more with the consistency of a holder for Brown.

That rhythm between a placekicker and holder doesn't happen overnight.
We should be trading for another OL
Phil in LA : 9/4/2015 11:41 am : link
not a fricking P.

arcarsenal : 9/4/2015 11:42 am : link
And I'm totally prepared to see half this place go nuclear over the pick just like they did over Beason. And Beason was a linebacker who had a history of playing at a high level.. now we're talking about a punter. Meltdowns will be had.
Nice..
Dave in Hoboken : 9/4/2015 11:42 am : link
Haha.
Big picture - maybe there's another signing in the works
jcn56 : 9/4/2015 11:42 am : link
and to get there, you need the $2.1M that cutting Weatherford gets you.
PFF rating
jeff57 : 9/4/2015 11:42 am : link
28th out of 32 punter punters.

Zastudil is old. He was probably cut from his team for the same reason Weatherford was just cut. Declining.

The same might be said for Fields. Yeah, he's a former pro bowler, but if he's not playing at that level any more, you'd move on.
If the Giants see Wing as a viable punter for this season and beyond
GiantJake : 9/4/2015 11:43 am : link
then a 7th round pick is a cheap price to pay.

is 24 and playing for the minimum. If he's good, you have a starter for the next decade.

Giving up a draft pick.
Arians on Zastudil
Ten Ton Hammer : 9/4/2015 11:45 am : link
Naturally there was uproar amongst some fans and no small amount wonder at what would make the Cardinals certain that Drew Butler was the best option after last year. In fact, during Bruce Arians usual Q&A on Monday via arizonasports.com he addressed questions on the decision saying,

"I think he [Drew Butler] won the battle easily on a daily basis."

Geremy Davis and Bobby Hart say otherwise.

Hope it's conditional and requires significant performance or the pick comes back.
the Matt Dodge

experience has scarred some Giants fans permanently. Punting really isn't that hard guys. Most are not Matt Dodge. Here's some reassurance on this guy
Quote:

"When I came to LSU I just finished coaching Matt Dodge [with the New York Giants] and we drafted Matt Dodge in the sixth round. And Brad was better than Matt Dodge his freshman year at LSU,"

Maybe we can trade Corey Washington for a late rounder

I have a feeling the condition
Jay on the Island : 9/4/2015 11:50 am : link
is going to be similar to the one the Giants got from the Broncos last year where McManus had to be on the roster for a certain number of games in order to receive the pick.

What do they say - 'Hey, I almost made the roster!'.
I'm hearing the trade is done,

It amazes me when Giants fans dismiss the importance of
Jay on the Island : 9/4/2015 11:51 am : link
a good punter or long snapper after the Trey Junkin and Matt Dodge disasters.
The Giants have a long way to go before they can proove
Ten Ton Hammer : 9/4/2015 11:51 am : link
that they can find talent in the 5-6-7 rounds.

Davis and Hart look good, but let's not sell the lemonade stand yet.
He's a lefty leg as well
