yes, Packers waiting on JJ, drooling. Given RR's and VC's conditions, and the lack of experience across the rest of the depth at WR, not sure I agree with this
sure what Parker did this preseason to justify a roster spot over James Jones.
Eli likes him. That's enough. Parker played the preseason like a guy assured of a roster spot- which he was. Anyone who thought he was actually on the bubble wasn't paying attention.
I would say Hosley and Kuhn too, but the DB numbers (and his reps at PR Thursday night) and TC's love letters in the sand for the latter prolly mean they make it
they would have brought him in at the beginning of OTA's. He was nothing spectacular and does not play the slot.Parker has more versatility and can contribute to specials. He also has more wiggle to him.
isn't a candidate for short term IR unless he's on the 53. That means they'd have to use a roster spot for him today by cutting someone else. It's defensible that they don't want to do so.
Robinson is bigger, faster, a draft pick, 6 years younger and $300,000 cheaper in cold, hard cash. Fells would need to be significantly better to keep, and he isn't exactly Mike Ditka.

seems to not have been used in the preseason. they seemed to be trying everyone else out knowing what they have in him. I'm not concerned he should contribute on all specials and have defined roll in the offense.
Jones, and Robinson cuts, in each case the Giants are opting for younger players, even if the age difference is only a couple of years. There is something to be said for experience, however, at the end of the day, when you have the right leaders (looking at Eli and Beason), it is still a young man's game and the supporting cast, if there is little difference in their play, it's better to go for the younger/hungrier/healthier guys.
Around the League: Veteran C Doug Legursky cut from the Steelers.

Didnt they only have 2 on the roster from like 04-07?
The problem is that Donnell and Cunningham aren't good blockers so they need a 3rd TE who is at least a solid inline blocking TE especially since we have a raw rookie LT and Newhouse as our RT.
Herz has played pretty well on the outside at Sam. It's a much better position for him. He also can set the edge and plays well on specials. Don't look for Herz to be cut IMO.

Me neither. I wasn't a huge fan of Herz initially, but he played pretty well against the run last year. He's a liability in pass coverage, but there's room for a solid LB against the run who also happens to be one of your core ST guys.
And keep two or three on the practice squad. It's not like they're going to dress more than eight on game day.
True enough. It does look like Donnelly has survived as a developmental project. Not sure what is going to happen to Jones. He'd be inactive most weeks anyway, but do they put him on IR?
Dottino was just on the Fan saying not to believe anything you read until 4:00 pm. Specifically said Hyno situation is still fluid. He did say he believed Hyno is on the bubble not because of Whitlock but because the injuries at other positions may force team to go without a FB
Bobby Hart probably lives on. Very glad Darkwa's name hasn't been called. I agree with some here- he is more instinctive than Williams. But, when you are undrafted you are at a major disadvantage because the folks in power don't want to look bad for picking a guy not as good in the 4th round.

I don't believe anything from Dottino any more. We are more in the loop than he is.
I don't think they will. Jennings is 30, and has an injury history. Even if he stays healthy this year, it could be his last with the team. That would mean you go with Darkwa, Williams, Vereen, and maybe Hunt in 2016. It also means that RB is settled, and we can concentrate on the other much needed positional upgrades. Williams has also been running behind a poor OL, and the Giants said that some scouts had a first round grade on him. As has been discussed, Reese holds onto draft picks much too long, but in this case he should unless there is a great offer, which won't be forthcoming.
I hear you but they need help on defense / and if they could land a guy like Kam Chancellor , it would be huge.

Could be Reese's last chance this year - he's an impact player and him and Collins at the safety spots for years to come would be awesome. He immediately helps the run defense as he is an incredible in the box safety.

as I sat next to his father, brother and grandmother at the Bengals game. When he went in it was like any of us seeing out kid play. They looked at everything he did, it was great. He told his grandmother he was a long shot, so he knows the odds.
Was placed on IR but Washington was waived injured i just don't understand this move.
It's easy.
Berhe was drafted last year, under contract until 2018. Showed promise his rookie year, was a very good special teams player. He has a future on the team, especially given the weakness of the safety position.
Washington was a waiver wire pickup. One dimensional WR, who did very little this preseason despite plenty of chances. He also talks too much on twitter. Not to mention the WR position is quite deep. He was under contract until 2017, but I bet very little of that was guaranteed.
Plain simple, from a money, need, and benefit to the roster standpoint, cutting Washington and IRing Berhe makes complete sense. It's a no brainer.
Jonas Gray got cut? Wow. Did White and Lewis both made the team? Word leaked out yesterday that Dion Lewis made the team to be the new Vereen/Woodhead.
2 cut day takeaway: 1) #Giants love Nikita Whitlock. Heard this weeks back. 2) They like Dwayne Harris at WR, hence Jones/CWash cut
not that my opinion matters, but I'm high on those guys too. Straight football players, who happen to excel at what their position requires them to do + the fundamentals of the game.
disheartening. The QB knows right where to go with the ball everytime.
I think some here Re willing to accept this deficiency because he seems to be a decent run stopper on the outside. I don't know enough about Unga, so I will stay neutral. I hope Gmen know how to evaluate potential.
they are possibly keeping Kuhn. Watched him all pre-season, he is useless. He either dances with the O Lineman or gets blown away. I have watched the Giants for more then 65 years and I cannot remember seeing a DT as inept as he is. WTF?
It's very obvious why he didn't make the team. He is slow he is 31. No upside. He strictly plays on the outside. Parker is backup slot and plays specials and can return kicks. Harris also a guy who has upside. Why cut a young guy got an aging vet who at best case scenario is your 4th wideout who doesn't play specials. Come on guys it isn't rocket science
only because of his character and his demeanor on the field and in the locker room. You could hear him yelling and pumping up the 4th stringers on the field at the end of the Pats game.
I don't understand how a fringe NFL player can be a leader on a roster.

As much as I think Kuhn is useless, I do understand the temptation to keep a 320lb DT with good athleticism. What I don't get is him potentially starting. No problem with Kuhn as the 5DT provided the team keeps 5 DTs, which I don't think they need to do.

After battling and beating cancer, he garnered instant respect when he first joined us..Deservedly so
He earned his spot last year and again this preseason. Solid player who is very versatile. Now let's hope they can improve the S position with youth over Meriweather.

LB Jameel McClain has been let go according to a source.
Must mean they are keeping Unga and Herzlich. The veteran purge continues. Coughlin is going with the young guys. McClain is not good in coverage, an area where we desperately need better play from our LBs, especially given our problems at safety. Herzlich isn't either, but is a good run defender, and plays ST. And as someone else noted, a lot of our moves today and in the offseason are about improving ST, including signing Harris, and keeping Whitlock.
Weatherford, McLeen, Hynoski...maybe even James Jones to a degree. We don't need any cap space. We had space going into camp. Not to mention all the additional room we are going to get with JPP not earning the 14.8 he was ear marked. So what is the deal?? Not sure, but can you carry over money under the cap as additional cap space the next year? If so, that would make sense. Otherwise not sure what is going on.

that the McLain info is just getting out now. (not for him) With Weatherford going yesterday and Hyno the first this morning, I thought the vets were being told earlier. I still have hope that Kuhn would be shown the door. If not him, then Jenkins. Old, higher priced with injury history aren't good traits around East Rutherford today.

On another thread saying Giants might be trying to trade for Cam chancellor
Please let this be true and actually happen. Dude's a beast and a natural leader. Exactly what this defense needs. Could be a season changing move.
He is a perfect fit
Didn't this rumor float earlier? Does someone revive this (fantasy) every 4 months?
Can confirm Corey Washington has just been told of his release #giants
Wow! How far he has fallen in one year. So sad.
Saw that as well, but it also said the two sides are far apart.
per rapoport
I would have kept Jones over Parker
but did not take next step this year so no surprise
i would not be surprised if he ends up on practice squad

I would. He has repeatedly spoken out with respect to how he was handled in NY. I think he would welcome an opportunity at a different location.
Yup and Meyers, Jennings & Jones not to mention Murphy, who did a detour, do we spot a trend regarding acquiring players that the Raiders no longer want? To me, Jones was expected. Easy cut to call.

Told you. 31 years old, slow and doesn't play specials. Catching a few passes against 4th stringers isn't enough.
Agreed. Should be a thread where only mods can post people definitely cut. Otherwise we are all reading through a load of crap to see names

His career apex to this point was a bunch of 4th-quarter preseason touchdown catches. That's not exactly star status.

Cruz was on IR the entire year after his great pre season
but yeah Cruz is one in a million ...
his attitude and work ethic are second to none
seems like Washington expected to be a starter after his pre season success and when it didn't happen he kind of pouted himself off the team.
that is how Cruz's career started a couple of stand out pre season games against scrubs
Apparently Cruz was fairly close to being cut in '11. A bit of a sophomore jinx maybe. Guys work their tail off that first year, the second they think it's going to be easier and drop off a bit. In Cruz' case he got it back in order for the reg season. I don't think we'll ever lose sleep over cutting Washington but I expect he will eventually make an NFL roster and catch some TD passes.

Damn. Was pulling for this guy on hard knocks.
Lions, TE Joe Fauria.
Somebody on another thread said the Giants like Bars, so PS might well be in his future.
Lions, TE Joe Fauria.
Jonas Gray got cut? Wow. Did White and Lewis both made the team? Word leaked out yesterday that Dion Lewis made the team to be the new Vereen/Woodhead.
Lions, TE Joe Fauria.
Fauria would seem to be a good get.
So far...
2 cut day takeaway: 1) #Giants love Nikita Whitlock. Heard this weeks back. 2) They like Dwayne Harris at WR, hence Jones/CWash cut
Marcus Kuhn = the lefty reliever of the Giants D-Line
TC kept praising him, not knocking him like Weatherford or even going gaga over his competition on the depth chart like Whitlock.

not that my opinion matters, but I'm high on those guys too. Straight football players, who happen to excel at what their position requires them to do + the fundamentals of the game.
Im not sure about that, I think Herz has more talent. Not impressed by Unga, undersized and lacking power to me.
I think some here Re willing to accept this deficiency because he seems to be a decent run stopper on the outside. I don't know enough about Unga, so I will stay neutral. I hope Gmen know how to evaluate potential.

They should, he's an upgrade over Miles and Meriweather.
I don't understand how a fringe NFL player can be a leader on a roster.
There is also special teams, which he excels at.

After battling and beating cancer, he garnered instant respect when he first joined us..Deservedly so

only because of his character and his demeanor on the field and in the locker room. You could hear him yelling and pumping up the 4th stringers on the field at the end of the Pats game.

Yes, I believe he got that concussion on a touchback.
Meanwhile, add LB Cole Farrand to the list of Giants cuts/moves. We've got 16 of 22 now
multiple camp reports describe Kuhn as strong with quick feet for a man his size. This has been stated by many times.
The problem is, he is simply not a good football player. Happens all the time.

Possibly making more space for chancellor and they like Unga

Wow! I posted about two weeks ago that "I" would cut McClain, but did not think the Giants would. Surprised, but I agree with this move.
Unga makes the team.
He's not that god anymore, not appreciably better than Unga and Herz if at all. And he's short term anyway.
And he frees up almost $3M in cap space.

I posted that as well in a new 53. i would also put Beason on IR or cut him, but that apparently isn't going to happen.
I hear you, but think of it this way.
McClain was not a very good backup MLB to begin with.
He would not be the starting LOLB, and Herzlich has actually played well at LOLB in Spag's system. Different requirements that play to his strengths.

I don't think they need to make the decision today. Maybe TEMP IR...
cap space to make a move weather its an addition or a new contract extension or 2

Maybe a trade is in the works?
Perhaps front-loading extensions for Eli and Prince?
Yes, you can carry over cap space to next year.
Yes you can carry over cap money. But they need Eli and Prince to sign.
Well the fact remains, he is a strong special teams player, which is why he is on the roster (or at least seems to be).
Texans waive CB Charles James.
him or harris are most likely getting cut since were not carrying 7 cb id think

I'm guessing Hosley, Fenner, and either Harris or Chykie Brown. I like Brown, but his injury may be the determining factor.
Would the Giants be willing to do that plus what it cost to get him here?

You'll probably see at least 3 moves by opening day. And that doesn't count what may or nay not happen with Kam.
A massive, fast, strong DT (that doesn't play up to his size.)

Kuhn staying is no surprise.
I'm sure you saw him play in preseason.......how is he on this team? Hosley? Herz? Jenkins?
