Thinks it's time to give Talley a shot.. Coughlin may like Parker's work ethic, but just too many drops. Geramy Davis will gradually work his way into the lineup, but Talley has excellent hands.. 'caught everything thrown his way' in at least one game this preseason.. I'd rather see him in there now instead of Parker, had two critical drops Sunday night
I don't see a reason to keep Parker on the team.

BB56, i would normally agree with you. But couple of things. One, it is still really unclear as to why Parker is #3, that is more opinion of mine and one unfortunately that Parker himself helped make my case.
Second is real. TC has benched people for fumbles in the past. I would argue that Parker played that poorly like he was turning the ball over. Fortunately we got some FGs but he contributed greatly to this loss.

It's not one game - we've been waiting on Parker to make a positive contribution for awhile now. He's just not that good a player.

I'm not a Parker fan and wanted him cut and Jones kept(for now) even if Jones doesn't play the slot..But 1 game?
he was completely absent sunday night basically like his entire career

You keep saying 1 game but it's not - it goes back to last season, and the preseason. He's had opportunity and done squat with it.
Yes, he's young, but to this point there's nothing in his body of work to suggest he's ever going to be better than what he is right now - which is awful.
I'm not suggesting Jones - he'd be out of position there. I'm also not saying someone else would certainly be better. I just don't think someone else would be any worse, and would have more upside than Parker.
I also agree about getting more reps for Davis. Aside from Beckham, we just have possession receivers. So we might as well put the best ones on the field. Davis is a big body who can box out defenders. He also showed good hands during the preseason.
We need to see more from Randle before sitting him, but he looked slow last Sunday, like he was still bothered by his knees.
We're not bringing back Jernigan. That ship has sailed.

I'm trying to play Devil's Advocate(not in chris r form; end my life if I ever do) here..He plays Specials, right now he's our only option, unless you want to throw Davis in there(I know, in retrospect, how much worse could he have been?)..I try not to focus on the season before, people improve(or not) from one season to the next..I just think saying same old, same old after 1 game is silly imo..That said, For the short term until and when Cruz is ready, Wes Welker could be an option, imv

Don't worry I hear "he's breaking out this year", which is like a triple Deja Vu. it's his "contract year" after all.
Parker has always been Parker - he's been worse, and he's never been any better, and likely won't ever be.
The STs argument is weak - because he contributes nothing on offense. I'd rather have someone who stands still on STs but could possibly help out the O in some positive way.

Parker was garbage last year too, do you remember the Colt game where he had like 4 drops ?
Well the thing there is that he responded the next week catching all 7 passes thrown to him for 79 yards and scoring a TD. He will probably get another chance to respond in the same manner this Sunday.
I have always been a "new" season guy and not compare 1 season to another, if possible..I'm generally a patient fan and I'm not gonna be apoplectic about a guy after 1 game of a NEW season..Not Sinorice Moss or Jernigan patient, just reasonably so..

last year in the Colts game and took the wind out of the whole team. He must be a Coughlin guy, you know they love a great story more than they love talent. See Kuhn and Herzlich.

and then he responded to that by not getting open the next three games, could've used him in that loss to San Fran. He's cost this team far too often.
The best man for the job (only while Cruz is out) is Shane Vareen. He's fast, great hands and fresh from being a key component in winning an NFL championship.
He plays a limited (albeit important) role at HB; at the slot, we'd see him on the field a lot more.
The mantra - "you always want your best players on the field" applies very well here. What is an outstanding player like Vareen doing on the bench while a guy like Parker is out there.

BB56, I usually agree with you, but I am basing my anti-Parker stance on games last year. The guy routinely runs improper routes (incorrect depth, bad leverage) and he has inconsistent hands. The Giants can do better than that. I can't see how Talley is any worse, and he has more upside.

I'm ready to move on from him too after this year. I would like to see Davis take some of his snaps as the season goes on. They are the same body type, but Davis seems to show better body control and high-points the ball. This offense needs a big WR who will go up and get it. Randle had single coverage all night against a suspect Cowboys secondary, and did next to nothing.
Seems like rookie Davis is the only card left in the deck to spell Randle.
Parker/Randle - As Chester A. Riley famously said, "What a revoltin' development this is !"

I could be mistaken but I don't think he runs bad routes. He seems to do a lot of those little things well, which is why the coaches continue to use him. He is reliable when it comes to knowing what to do and doing it. He's just inconsistent with his hands. I've been a Parker fan for a while because I like his attitude and he's easy to root for but I'm also ready to move on at this point. Granted, if Cruz were healthy Parker wouldn't be on the field to begin with but, they could definitely use a better player there.

That's cool..I still wouldn't mind bringing in Welker, short term or until Cruz is fit to go
Correspondingly; (for mechanics, crane operators, neurosurgeons). "He's not bad, just inconsistent with his hands"
By the way, how much is he getting paid ?

I meant compared to someone like Nicks or Beckham. When the ball is thrown to him, he normally catches it. He had a bad game last night and a bad game last season against the Colts that everyone keeps bringing up. He's made some plays as well. He is what he is...a guy that does everything fairly well but nothing great. Coughlin has a soft spot for players who can do multiple tasks, even when they don't excel at anything.

I agree with you a lot of people jump to conclusions about players after week 1. In the case of Parker, he had a tendancy to drop balls last year and hasn't shown any improvement. I was shocked when he got the nod over Harris this year.
