Amani Toomer.

SanFranNowNCGiantsFan : 9/18/2015 7:31 pm
Just reminiscing about this Giants era (post Parcells). And while Eli and Tuck will forever be my favorites, Amani is a solid number 3. Just a class act and a great WR. Of all the people I was happy for on February 3, 2008, Amani was tops.

My favorite Amani moment was his catch for the win to beat the undefeated Broncos in '98. I still vividly recall one official calling a TD, the other waving it incomplete. But they called it a TD and the rest was history. He struggled his first few years, but became our best WR and one of the leagues best by 02.

So, thanks Amani. Always loved by us fans.
Still the only good thing

to come out of the University of Michigan.
Big part of Giants history, great player for us.

I wouldn't put him ahead of #92 in the post-Parcells era, but he's certainly among the best.

No doubt Strahan was better player, but I think Amani endeared himself more to the fans.
Too we was a one-man show in 2000.

The WR corps was severely depleted and he kept the passing attack together.
My Favorite Toomer moment was

His TD catch in the 2007 Divisional game against Dallas from 40 something. The quick move and dash down the sideline for the score.
That was the first moment my friends and I thought out loud "Hay, we might beat these guys"

on sideline passes? People underestimate how important our receivers were in 2007.

That made me spit my beer..good one
dont forget his TD right before half in that same game

THATS when i thought we had a real shot. the first long TD reminded me of when Plax had the long TD in the SNF opener that year and then Dallas came back.

what i wanted to see was whether we'd punch back after the counterpunch. that 2min drill drive that ended with the 2nd Toomer TD told me game on. still one of my favorite games ever.
here's my broncos game amani toomer story

that evening my 2 1/2 year son was standing in front of the TV, with the TV turned off, jumping up and down screaming and patting the top of his head with his hand. he would then look at me wondering why i wasn't doing it.

it took a while for my wife and i to figure out that he was just imitating me from earlier in the day.

Collins threw it 60 yards in the air. Great throw and catch.

I remember that. First play of 2nd half, if I remember. Great way to catch them napping.

of why with some players you need to have a little patience because it might take them a few seasons before they grasp everything required of them to be successful playing at the NFL level.

He was one of the best at completing a tip-toe catch on the sidelines. He really mastered that play.
What I think about when I think of Toomer

Ah, the good ol' days, when football officials could confer to make sure they got the call right!
he wasn't a tumor

and he was what every championship team has multiples of. We could sure use one of him at that position right now.
Always thought it was weird

how he just fell off a cliff in 2008, instead of stepping up when Plax shot himself in 2008.

Feel the same way about Nicks. Guy was Toomer 2.0 but then just fell of a cliff.

Still rather see him out there than whatever a Preston Parker is.

Always felt that Toomer was robbed of a probowl nod that year.
Amani is a class act!

I met him at a mall in NJ, he was shopping when I saw him. I bought a mini Giants helmet and asked him politely for an autograph. He smiled, put his index finger to his mouth for me to keep his presence quiet, then he took a silver marker from his jacket and signed the helmet.
We shook hands, and he thanked me for keeping it quiet. I asked him what he was shopping for, and he was looking for some some stuff for his kitchen. Since that's my profession (I'm a chef), I showed him the right gear to buy. I also bought him a decent chef knive, the type I use. He laughed and asked if I'd autograph it for him.
He's a good guy, very down to earth.
