I don't know what I think about Landon Collins yet.

TC : 9/22/2015 9:02 pm
I haven't focused closely on his play, though my impression is generally positive. But one thing I believe from watching him is that he ISN'T a big time thumper. And that's not necessarily a bad thing given the state of handing out penalties for rough play. But I am a little surprised given his size, and of course announcers will continue to describe him as a big hitter, irrespective of what's happening on the field, because that's what is in their scripts.

He can't hit hard like kam chancellor

Kam would have hit jj so hard last game he would have dropped the ball. Landon is not an nfl thumper
Collins Seems To Hit As Hard As He Can

and not draw a penalty. Seems to be a talented, smart player.
He's a rookie

Let's give him some time before we compare to Chancelor
Collins

He hasn't been in that many tackles yet, but I remember him rocking one player pretty good.
I like him
Rjanyg : 9/22/2015 9:19 pm : link
He has made mistakes but I think by seasons end we will have a solid starter at safety. Surprisingly, I like him and Merriweather together back there. Imagine if we had a pass rush.

your a clown rich. making definitive statements about a player two games into his career with a street FA starting opposite side him. what a goon. same guy who was probably destroying eli and tiki early in their careers. your a bitter old man and I feel bad for anyone who has to cross paths with you on a daily basis.
Backfield is essentially brand new team
D_Giants : 9/22/2015 9:42 pm : link
The two safeties have never played together or with the corners, and Collins is only a rookie. Evaluation is too soon. The LBs are having difficulties covering pass plays.
He's playing inspired out there

I'm glad he's a Giant, and can't wait to watch him grow. Stay healthy,
He definitely looks like a player
pganut : 9/22/2015 9:55 pm : link
And one who should only get better as he acclimates to the pro game. Time will tell.
still running around; doesn't seem to know what he's doing

Let's wait a couple of weeks before the funeral. He's an athlete and a hitter; need more of those
I think he is going to be fine...
EricJ : 9/22/2015 10:14 pm : link
when I watched his college videos, it seemed like he was making a lot of plays utilizing his football instincts. Just reacting to what he was seeing on the field.

When I see him now, he seems to be thinking too much about where Spags wants him to be vs just playing football. That is causing delay and uncertainty. Eventually that will change.

I remember when we drafted Corey Webster, the DC had him so screwed up that he was paralized out there. Once we got rid of the DC, Corey began to play like a starting corner should.
Anyone remember Gibril Wilson's first game or two in his rookie year?
Kuhn and Friends : 9/22/2015 10:20 pm : link
One was against the Redskins. I was at the game behind the Giants bench and he made a hit on a guy on the opposite side of the field down around the 20 yard line and the impact was so hard it reverberated throughout the stadium followed by just about everyone in the building letting out a solid "OOOOOOHHHH" because you almost felt it yourself. It was like a human version of a patriot missile intercepting a SCUD. I remember thinking at that moment in time that we were going to have one of the most talented, nastiest, hardest hitting safety in the league for many years to come. Obviously that didn't pan out as expected or hoped for. That being said, it's impossible to judge and extrapolate what a player like Collins (who reminds me of what Wilson seemed like he could be) is or will become anytime soon. Give it a year or two to make a proper assessment.
You saw him in 2 games
UConn4523 : 9/22/2015 10:27 pm : link
not going to bother assessing him right now

Who's trying to compare him to Chancellor?

Fuck Chancellor
PaulN : 9/22/2015 10:39 pm : link
What is it with this guy, he wouldn't make a fucking difference on this team, we need a fucking pass rush, not Kam Chancellor. Fucking idiots, you have to listen to this crap every fucking day.

The poster right after the op...maybe you should read the whole thread before sounding off.
Oh, I get it...sorry!

My fault...carry on!
Its two games
NJGiantFan84 : 9/23/2015 12:04 am : link
Into his rookie season. Nobody should know what to think of him yet. Even if he had two spectacular games, its hard to project what he will be two games in.

That being said, there has been good and bad which is to be expected. Though, im not sure many safeties could look good with our pass rush.
I've seen two or three
giantgiantfan : 9/23/2015 12:19 am : link
mental screw ups, which look like first time and only time mistakes to me. I really have no reason to make a judgement until closer to the end of the season and then again next year to see if he progressed even more...

I was here, in person, at age 15, and remember this EXACT moment.

Fucking VICIOUS!

Gibril was awesome for that rookie year, and maybe the next year after that.
very few guys
bbfanva : 9/23/2015 4:32 am : link
come out and make a serious impact from the very start. Professional defenses are much more complex than college and the players are much more talented. It'll be a year before we see what this guy can do.
He's going to be a star
armstead98 : 9/23/2015 5:34 am : link
He's still thinking too much, as he has to, and not playing fast at all right now. When vanilla offenses were the name of the game in preseason he was a beast making plays all over the field.

Give him some time to learn the game and he'll be one of the best safeties in the league.
We have no idea what we have in Collins....
Doomster : 9/23/2015 11:31 am : link
What concerns me most is, he is out of position in coverage.....can he tackle? Yes....but the middle of the Giant defense is so wide open.....part of the blame is the linebackers for sure......but too many receivers are released inside and safeties are just not there....

We talk about the Jones play, where there was no coverage over the top......has anyone asked Spags about that? Was Prince on an island or was there a mistake? If there was a safety back there, shouldn't he have been leaning more towards Jones than anyone else?

As I said before the season started, too many people expected big things from him right away......all you can do is hope to see progress each week....right now, this defense scares no one in the passing game......and until it does, expecting this defense to protect any lead under 8 points, is futile....
Given I actually played both safety positions
JonC : 9/23/2015 11:40 am : link
Collins has the AA, pedigree, brains, is a physical tackler, and hits plenty big. He's also a rookie and will make his share of mistakes via growing pains. He's also a kid who will get stronger and the hits will become more impactful. Give him time to work out the growing pains, he's just thinking too much out there and it causes him to lose his spot on the field, take poor angles of pursuit, etc.
refreshing to actually
mdc1 : 9/23/2015 4:38 pm : link
see a draft pick in the 1st year playing, contributing, and learning. How often does that happen on this team? Same for Flowers. About time. Sometimes I wonder if its the picks or the coaching? Interesting how suddenly changing the DC and we are getting more output from non big-names...
I would rather him at SS than FS
RoadWarriorz : 9/23/2015 5:16 pm : link
I think he would make more plays at SS.
I don't want designated to Kenny Phillips role. Which was just to get beat deep.

Seems like he has what it takes to be a good player. He needs time to adjust from college to the NFL. I really think he'll be a good player.
