Nice win tonight even though we didn't play a great game the full 60 minutes. Eli and the run defense played well alpng with Randle and Odell. The special teams and pass rush were a train wreck and our TE play is abysmal. There is no excuse for the lack of talent at TE. There has to be someone out there that can give more than Donnell and Cunningham. Around the league teams have multiple threats at TE yet we barely have a #2 in Donnell and a PS player in Cunningham and a banged up #3 in Fells. I really hope we bring in a handful of TEs on Tuesday and pick one to hopefully contribute something to this offense as a blocker, receiver or red zone threat. Even with Cruz back we still need someone as a legit threat in tne middle of the field.
Not my only take but one of them, yeah. So I guess you like our TE situation. Awesome!
Either way it was a good win. Hopefully they can get something going now. Hopefully Cruz, Flowers and DRC are ready next week. Back to back wins would be nice!
If the last two games are any indication, Alfred Morris's tenure in Washington looks like it's coming to an end. Sign me up, haven't had that type of workhorse in years
Yeah, I really do not grasp the sense of running that play. We don't have that kind of athlete at the TE position.
As for TE - Donnell is open every time he is in the pattern. Defenses do not hit TE off the line. He is not a good blocker - see 95% of TE
Just hold onto the ball and he is fine for this offense.
When Cruz comes back you will have 3 WR and the RB's who can catch. Donnell will still be open
2016-2017 is the window for this team.
We want a TE who can catch but he can't block - everyone bitches.
There are not 5 TE's in the league who do both.
Reed on Wash can't block, Anyone see Ertz trying to block last Sunday, how about Fleener and D. Allen. The next guy J. Graham hits will be his 1st, same for J. Thomas.
It is easier to find a LT than it is a TE that can do both
Yes, Donnell is not the answer, but you are not going to get anything off the street, that is better....
Why does the man keep leaving his feet? He jumps for catches when he doesn't need to. What the hell was that somersault for? He slips and almost cost an interception. Dropped 2 more catches. Shades of Parker.
The Giants Win
Yeah Baby

Well okay, fine, but most of those guys do the running, catching and scoring things much better than our TE's do.
I think that's a very good takeaway, actually.
We did very well with the short passing game last night with our wide receivers, but we could've had them pose more of a deep threat of our tight ends sucked up defenders in the 10-20 yard range.
I don't think your negative comments are wrong, but I disagree with your overarching idea that he's bad. I'm very disappointed to see he doesn't seem to have improved those awkward aspects of his game at all, but there's no doubt he's big, strong and does a good job finding soft spots in zone defense. He can also out muscle a defender for a ball in man-to-man coverage.
If he doesn't fix the bad parts of his game that you alluded to, I agree on going with Fells.. but the ceiling is higher with Donnell, IMO.
He's right you moron

Awesome!
That's harsh. How can u say special teams were abysmal when you make every FG, block a punt, and give them bad starting positions all night? Yes, I recall the return but the game was over by then. Also, Fells is not the #3 TE. No reason to call him a moron. That's amateurish
He's right you moron
Agreed. Donnell nearly caused a pick by tripping over his own feet and the guy just looks clumsy and gangly.
Darkwa showed that kind of ability in the preseason.

Boss and Ballard were fairly mediocre athletes who could catch and block. They just were not fast.
The last TE we had that could run, catch and block was Shockey. He was also not a good blocker when he came into the league but he improved a lot in this over the few years he was here. Blocking can be taught and coached.

Yeah Martellus Bennet never played here? I guess anyway we finally figured out the Adrien Robinson just didn't have IT, and blaming and dumping Pope was a mistake, finally.

What makes you think they see firing Pope as a mistake?
Pope developed no-namers left and right, not to mention Bennet who was a "fail" with the Cowboys.

Pope was not on board with McAdoo's offense. Had to go.
Giants haven't invested anything at all in the position since he left though. Donnell and Cunningham both undrafted FAs and Fells came to us after sitting out a whole season when he was one of the Patriots' last cuts.

We screwed up letting Bennett walk, granted, but let's not act like Donnell was a disaster last season. He was a project- uninvited to the Combine and signed as a UDFA- as a receiving tight end.
That may be his only value beyond this season, but the focus should be on his ability to help us win games in the present.
He's a competent veteran presence. That's where his value comes from.
Donnell (despite the buffoonery) is #5 in the league in TE receptions? Guess that's why he's our starter and where his value comes from...
