With the running game struggling and Odell our only threat I am concerned about the lack of big plays the offense is producing.
They're not even looking to throw the ball down field. We need Cruz back and we need an effective Cruz. It's easy for teams to keep Odell in front of them right now.
Hopefully the run game continues as the team rounds into form. Less than 3 yard per carry is not going to cut it.
Offensive game plan was fine. And looked what happened in the 4th quarter. We hit Donnell up the seam for a big play. OBJ got a long TD, as did Randle. McAdoo got exactly what he wanted last night from the offense. Our run game blows, and going up a good front 7 was not going to make it better.
Now, McAdoo's calls were maddeningly weak on a number of occasions, but you're missing the big picture.
Eli is being smart and taking what the defense gives them...
With the threat that Beckham is, defenses have to back off and their safeties are staying deep...
You saw as soon as Eli got 1 on 1 coverage deep he threw it deep.
Starts with the running game becoming a factor. There is no play action game to speak of.
If he was throwing deep and into double coverage you would be screaming for him to stop doing it..
He is picking his spots...it is hard to go deep to your WRs when teams are playing Cover 2 and taking away the deep play..

Missing their best run-blocking LT in Flowers which also led to Jerry being in there, who is a TERRIBLE run blocker. Also went against a stout defense.
Going against another one next weekend, so it would be nice to get Flowers back healthy along with Pugh at LG. Upgrades two spots.

It is just obvious to see, i was watching the game and if the Giants were throwing you knew when they were going to go short and when they had an oppurtunity to go deep...
On the Beckham TD, they had 1 safety deep and as soon as he bit, Eli threw it deep..
on the Randle TD they had 1 on 1 on the outside and he threw it deep...
When there are 2 deep safeties it is much harder to go deep..
Amen.
The Skins were putting everyone in the box on those last few series, knowing we were just going to run to run time off the clock. No way we were opening a hole there unless we had John Hannah and Orlando Pace blocking for us.

I disagree that the offense needs to get big chunks of yards....if the defense is playing cover two on first down and letting the giants get short passes for 4-5 yards to avoid a deep pass to beckham, you take that everytime. 2nd and 5 gives you a lot of playcalling options.
remember the Monday night game when the giants played in indy against the colts and peyton manning kept on handing off because the giants were in nickel/dime defenses to prevent big passing plays? it was death by 1,000 cuts, but it was done to perfection. indy controlled the clock, wore down our defense and eli never got into a rhythm on offense. and then when we started to cheat up against the run, peyton unleashed an aerial assault.
NExt week in Buffalo would be a good time to start but their D can play. O needs to bring their A game for that one.
Right. I remember reading some years ago, when the West Coast offense was being discussed a lot because of Walsh's success with the Niners, Walsh said the short passes are our running game. You get the yards however you can.
that said, this system relies on talent at the skill positions to turn short passes into long gains.
right now, we do not have enough talent at the skill spots. Similar to Spags not having the horses on D, McAdoo doesn't have them on O. Eric's right, getting Cruz back is huge. We've gotten nothing from the slot WR yet and that is a huge impact position in the WCO.
Well his QBR is up, his completion percentage is up, his interceptions are way way down.
I'm sorry but Eli was like a surgeon last night. How many different targets were there? He did so very quickly as well since he doesn't get much time in the pocket. Slice and dice, dink and dunk, shake and bake, whatever your flavor. That's the new offense now. The important thing is that when they gave him the one on one looks, he took the shot and capitalized on them.
Now the OC is adjusting and accounting for an OL that they clearly don't feel good about (which is made worse by a lack of quality skill player talent), trying not to leave his QB out to dry, and people don't like that either.
McAdoo might be best served to play it slightly less conservative, given how terrible the TE situation is, but he's pretty much doing or trying to do exactly what almost everyone once wanted.
He doesn't look bad, however he had three turnovers in the Patriots game which contributed to the Pats kicking their ass. he is also athletic and can run with the ball. another dimension that we could not handle last year. It will be interesting to see how Spags defends him, especially with more athletic LBers.
