I think one of Spags' greatest strengths is his work with the secondary, even if he is no longer a Secondary coach..His work in Philly and Baltimore with their Secondaries would seem to bear that out..

As Joey said....very small sample size...but we've gone from 30th in run defense to 2nd.
Awesome review....
okiegiant : 9/27/2015 9:38 pm : link
but I did see one tiny mistake. In the running back section you mentioned the interception by Prince Akeem.

These are the reviews I love. I learn something and get some laughs!
More fun than

Fewell 0. It's going to be a blowout.

it was too snarky and cute with the jokes, but the review was very well done.

Kudos Joey.

FWIW, I thought Kerry Wynn played pretty damned well last game. Would love it if the Giants got that performance out of him every game.

Thanks chop, I write how I talk and yeah it gets that way but I do try to get some good info in there. I struggle with it, I'm a natural born wise ass, but I'm glad you could enjoy the information.
I haven't read it yet but I assume

Eli is complete responsible for the win (grin)
I really enjoy these

Thank you Joey not only for the entertainment value, but your insightful look at things some of us may have missed. I look forward to your reviews every week.
Interesting how you demonstrate
WideRight : 9/28/2015 8:14 am : link
a six yard run as a win for the Giants D.

But based on last year, its spot on.
Your "Jaws" parody was funny last week.....
Doomster : 9/28/2015 8:42 am : link
Waited with eager anticipation to see if you could top it this week....."Wah!", you didn't....

Think the posts from the guys last week, made you more, matter-of-fact this week.....It was going to hard to top last week's, anyways....

Agree on those two 3rd down passes to the TE's....definitely head scratchers.....

As for showing Fewell, wish they showed him smiling again, when Randle caught the TD....
Excellent job Joey!

I love your "Inside the Game" breakdows - quality information that don't get many other places.
Right on Joey

I do think you found the right balance on this one -- I guess it helps that it was a win instead of another loss -- but I for one appreciate it when you talk football and lay the ground work for it with your wise-assi-ness.
Good stuff Joey. Enlightening AND entertaining.

Like George Costanza refraining from sex.

Love the Fewell cracks too. Howard Cross actually called him out on the radio pregame on Thursday night
awesome review
Les in TO : 9/28/2015 10:20 am : link
great breakdown of the run play. happy to hear that richburg had a solid game as I didn't focus much on the line during the game. Kennard's stoutness vs the run is very promising.
Not wiseass enough yet,
oldog : 9/28/2015 10:23 am : link
but simply the best sports writing that I've seen in years, and I read a lot of it.
Do I remember Wynn on one play
joeinct : 9/28/2015 10:29 am : link
just before snap moving from outside to inside and then having redskins run sweep around him after he got caught inside? I was thinking he must have saw something pre-snap to have him move, but I don't remember and help outside.
You are able to write in a way
Headhunter : 9/28/2015 10:43 am : link
that is informative and entertaining. It is a skill to take the X's and O's not read like Latin homework. Great job, thanks for the effort
After being very critical last week
weaverpsu : 9/28/2015 10:44 am : link
I have to be fair and say I enjoyed reading your review this week. I agree about the TE plays on 3rd down although it did seem like maybe Eli checked into it 1 of the 2 times. Hopefully that is a play that Cruz runs instead starting next week. I was so excited to have Beason back, especially against a team that is so physical but his name was basically never called. Buffalo will be tough but glad we are getting healthier. Thanks for review. (It helps when they win)
Good job dood

I enjoyed it.
I always enjoy your reviews,

Joey..thanks.

You're right....I thought we might be going through TC's pockets for loose change when I saw how much time Cousins was getting.

Wynn-Kennard-Collins-Hankins...starting to gather a group of guys that can put a charge into the crowd and the sideline with a great play.
Joey, I enjoyed your well written and comprehensive review.

I agree that we need to give Darkwa a shot at serious playing time. We don't know that he's our best running back, but he may be and it's time to find out. It's not as if anyone else is doing the job with enough consistency.

Our defense has been better than I expected before the season, although I wasn't expecting very much. Kennard and Wynn have become solid players for us and Landon Collins was a very good draft pick. With a couple of good acquisitions in the off-season, we could have a good defense again.
Good work, Joe

Unfortunately, we went from 18th to dead last in pass defense from last year. Sorry to be the Debbie Downer.

2nd. to last in passing defense is the Bills so we have an opportunity to change that next game. We will need to beat the Bills through the air. I hope Coughlin does not force the 50/50 balance of run and pass. I would be surprised if we could get a run game going against them.

WE NEED MORE PASS RUSH!

I am happy to see that I was not being too negative in wondering why the hell the Giants throw the 2 yard pass on 3rd and 5 or longer. It always baffles me particularly when it is such a quick pass to a slow tight end and the other team is playing close to the line of scrimmage. Otherwise very strong game for Eli and the receivers, time to sit Donnell at least until he can concentrate enough on catching the ball and agree that it might be time to try Darkwa as an RB and to play Vereen more when it is not just an obvious passing down.
No complaining about the Reviews this week
Dave in Hoboken : 9/28/2015 4:08 pm : link
since the Giants won. If the Giants lose next week, there will be people in here blaming the reviewer for not being all rainbows and sunshine, haha. Babies.
The Good, Bad and Ugly
Jimmy Googs : 9/28/2015 4:11 pm : link
Good - nice to see an emotional good start. Took control and never let go.

Bad - Defense still can't get off the field on third down.

Ugly - Donnell is a chucklehead 1-2 times a game.
He talks about the same "cast of characters"
HomerJones45 : 9/28/2015 7:12 pm : link
and then highlights Meriwether. Huh?

Spagnuolo has Selvie, Collins, Meriwhether, Casillas, Thomas, Unga so other than half dozen players, Joey is right.
Yo Joey
blueblood'11 : 9/29/2015 6:49 am : link
Do you this professionally somewhere? That's about as complete a breakdown as you can get. I love the critique of Devon Kennard. I still scratch my head at the fact he wasn't selected until the fifth round in last year's draft.

"Mostly dead". Lmao

But spot on.Road teams are usually terrible on Thur nights. Let's see how they do this week.

Great Read

Reviews are always better after a W. Very informative too. I agree that Darkwa should get some burn. Jennings had a big time hustle play with that block on specials, but I am very unimpressed with him as an RB. Did he always look this slow?
Great analysis of the run D.
CT Charlie : 9/29/2015 5:44 pm : link
As for our running, can we assume that we're better when Flowers is in the game -- improving two positions?
