No James Jones thread?

Mike in Long Beach : 9/29/2015 12:17 am
7 catches, 139 yards and a TD tonight...

On pace for: 64 catches, 1168 yards, 21 TDs.

I normally don't hop on these type of bandwagons, but everyone on this board knew it was a bad move the second Jones was cut. It's kinda depressing to see the numbers he put up tonight.

I saw his comments on the Giants organization. The guy's all class. Good for him, but I wish he was still on our team.

definitely a head scratcher.

And since McAdoo has said repeatedly that all his receivers learn all of the positions, let's not bring up the slot argument again.
Every week? No
Mike in Long Beach : 9/29/2015 12:23 am : link
But this week, 139 yards and TD later? Sure, I think it's very reasonable to call out the mishap by the organization we all root for.

In that case, Randle deserves a thread too.

I'm sure he did one, but there was no controversy regarding Randle's place on the team. If Randle had 3 yards through 3 games, no one would dispute it was a right move at the time to keep him on the team despite crap numbers.

But this isn't a "hindsight is 20/20" thread. This is about a questionable decision that now has overwhelming evidence supporting the idea that it was a bad one.

Why not? It was arguably as bad a personnel move as any the Giants have made in the Reese era, all things considered.

Why? We didn't cut Ruben for Parker. It's beyond obvious it was amajor fuck up and if Jones had been in the field he may have at least helped them win one or both the games

It's not often it's so obvious when a team fucks up realizing a player. Major screw up by a FO who would be on the hot seat if Mara and Tisch weremt more In Love w stability than success

James Jones is 5 catches short of 400 for his career and has over 5100 career receiving yards. He also was our most successful WR in preseason (which I know means very little, but that was his sole audition for our team).

He most definitely is not a bum.

dogshit decision. dogshit move. maybe jones doesn't get open for half those passes parker dropped, but if he catches 3/4th of the passes he dropped after getting open for half (aka 2 catches), we win at least one more game.

If we kept Jones over Parker, we're probably 2-1.

It was a stupid decision at the time. And it looks worse every big game Jones has. I have no idea what they saw in Parker to choose him over Jones. None.

Making this site difficult to be on lately...the one above this post comes quickly to mind.

I had no problem with the move at the time. Some of us expected Cruz back about week 4 and we already had R & B as the outside guys. There was also the hope of getting Harris some touches. Parker was known to the staff but either way Jones/Parker would be the number 4 guy at best(come on Davis!). It just didn't work out the way the Giants hoped, and it certainly ended up being a bad decision.

They obviously realized this and released Parker but the deed was done. We, as fans, can either move on or not. Personally I moved on...Jones is gone...time for me to focus on who is here.

Is that someone from Green Bay called the giants and begged to cut him.
So they made a bad judgement call
AnnapolisMike : 9/29/2015 7:37 am : link
I guess they should be canned for doing so. It would not be the first time a player was cut from one team and went on to have success on another. Keep in mind that Jones landed in a pretty plumb spot in Green Bay. They badly needed someone and he deserves credit for taking advantage of the opportunity.

They had to cut someone...Maybe Green Bay would have been happy with Parker as well. I think we are overvaluing Jones as he came out of preseason.
In retrospect, it was obviously a bad move...
Milton : 9/29/2015 7:46 am : link
It's reasonable to believe he could've been the difference between winning and losing in the first two games. But keep in mind that Jones spent most of May, June, and July without a team. So at a time when roster sizes were 90-men strong, nobody was in a hurry in to give Jones even a minimum-salary deal. Not even the Packers. It took early training camp injuries for the Giants to sign him.
I keep going back to the player wanting to go back
USAF NYG Fan : 9/29/2015 8:00 am : link
to the Packers. Jones saw his opportunity to go back to the team he loves. The Giants gave him what he wanted. The only argument I can see here is Jones over Reuben (which is a good argument) instead of Jones over Parker. I suppose it could have been OBJ and James with Reuben in the slot but I honestly don't think Reuben is good in the slot. I just don't think Reuben is very good anyway.

If he stayed, he'd be fighting Reuben for a spot and I don't think he wanted to do that. In GB, he's got the spot. He's with the better QB. He's in the system he already knows (yes I know ours is similar). It was a better opportunity for him and the Giants gave him that.

On another level. La'el Collins for 3 months now Jones. This is how you deal with "real" life? Just going on and on over something that happened? How much is too much whining? I guess I will find out. Move on with your lives and try to live in the present, just some unsolicited advice that will be ignored I'm sure
At this point, it looks like a bad move...
LarmerTJR : 9/29/2015 8:05 am : link
and yes Jones would be helping the Giants right now, but, going into the season, would you have wanted him taking snaps from Randle? The answer would have been no. And, although Parker sucks, Cruz was due back sooner rather than later. Do you want Jones taking snaps from Cruz? The answer is still no. The real question at the time was do you want James Jones taking snaps from Parker. That answer is and should have been yes. But, maybe Jones saw the writing on the wall, and saw the opportunities to have a big year shrinking with the Giants. Once Jordy went down, the need for Jones became greater in GB. But to agree with Milton, the need, league wide, for Jones was NON-EXISTENT prior to him signed with the Giants late in the Summer. He has performed well, and NOT dropped the ball like he has been know to do. And although he is having a great year, if Parker catches those balls, we would be talking a lot less about it.

I get that, but one the move was incomprehensible at the time and even more so, now. Second it is not like we can move on and do something about it, as fans all we can do is whine. If we do something stupid at our work, we at least can move on and try to do something positive, as a fan you are left cheering the good decisions and bemoaning the bad ones. Nature of being a fan versus a participant.

Half the team was slow to react and stopped for a second before realizing that Rodgers was taking the play. Credit the Packers for practicing that and being extremely good at turning those plays into big pluses but let's not act like Jones is dominating the league.

Rodgers is the best QB in football hands down and he is going to make everyone around him look good. It's possible Jones is just a better fit in GB than he would have been here. Some of you guys need to let go. It's over.

I like Parker as a person and a story--he's a hard worker and seemingly good guy.

All Jones did was prove his worth all preseason. STUPID move by the Giants and whomever made that decision needs to be questioned as to how they make these decisions.

Who cares if he wanted to be here or not? If had played for Parker - like he should have - we might be 2-1 or 3-0.

Would suck if we finish one game out of the NFC East title.

Not sure it was just about Parker. Giants have OB Cruz and Randle and Harris would have dressed for special teams.
