Flowers is a rookie, Richburg is a 2nd year guy in the first year at C, Schwartz and Newhouse are journeyman, one of whom hasn't played for 2 years, the ot.her a cast off
Maybe it's just the relative expectations between him and Newhouse entering the year, but I think objectively Newhouse has held his own better than Geoff.
RE: I think Richburg has been praise-worthy so far.
I think he is really versatile, and an excellent lineman. I think he gets a lot of undeserved shit on here too, for some reason. Do I want him as starting LT? No... but he's passable for sure and I'm comfortable with him anywhere on the OL. In that sense I think he is the best player on our OL. I think Richburg and Flowers have higher ceilings for their respective positions and are (or will be) more dominant at those starting spots than he will be. But his versatility at every spot other than center makes him invaluable. Plus I love his attitude.
is a fantastic building block for the next 4-5 years. If we can just solidify the right side a smidge more, this could be a very good line in 2016 and beyond. The thing is, I have no idea whether Schwartz is actually good or not. He is either injured, or doesn't really jump off the film during games when he plays. Ugh.
(which this is not, I get it), we can upgrade the right side and keep Newhouse as a swing tackle and Schwartz as a backup G/RT. Having depth on the OL would be an amazing change. I think this group keeps getting better as the continue playing with one another though.
I'd like to see one more 1st-2nd round piece added.
LT, LG, AND CENTER......either a high draft pick and a good free agent signing, for RG and RT.....Schwartz is nothing special...adequate at best, and we still hold our breath for a whole season....yes there are those on this board, who are high on Hart....but until he shows something, he is just another 7th round project, in a long line of projects...
has been one of the biggest disappointments in recent memory. He seemed like someone who was going to break out into a very solid starter if not more when he got a full time role, and he's been average at best.
I think Schwartz is what he's always been. Hurt often

that has been thrown Reese's way (by many, including me and mostly deservedly so), he appears to have done an excellent job with high OL picks the past few years (Pugh, Richburg and Flowers).
In particular, Pugh has filled the "David Diehl Swiss Army Knife" role being able to quickly and competently fill in at multiple OL positions. 19 initially seemed a little high for his skill set, but I think his flexibility has increased his overall value.
Arrow pointed up as far as the OL is concerned. Another 2nd round pick at RG or RT in the next draft would be fine with me.
Because he waited too long, and wasted some prime Eli years...
I'm really sick of hearing this...
Doomster, just curious if you were GM of the Giants in 09, 10 11, 12 13 (right when the current Oline started to regress), who would you have drafted 1st overall instead of
H nicks , JPP , prince , David Wilson , Justin Pugh (oh wait)
Oh keep in mind you drafted Beatty 2nd rd pick in 09 & Brewer in 2011.
The logic behind why Coughlin will play people who are clearly ineffective due to injury continues to escape me. I mean, I know why he does it, because he seems to think you can always play through injuries, but when a player can't perform that player needs to be pulled from the game.

I would have rushed to the podium to draft Max Unger in the 2nd round of the 2009 draft over both Sintim and Beatty and that is not hindsight.
guys look around the NFL, not many teams have 1st and 2nd rounders up and down their oline. we have 2 firsts and a second and a couple pieces in there. I LOVE the play of the oline so far considering the age and the injuries we have been awesome. GS is solid, is he a pro bowler no but solid anyways...plus we get beatty back we are going to have a very good oline. honestly i cannot see them spending a draft pick in first three rounds on the oline. I could easily see DE, LB, S, CB, TE, WR, RB all before oline. We will prob restructure Beatty and add some depth thru Free agency and our oline should be solid for at least 4-5 years. right now IMO we have more pressing needs, most on defense, but with randles knees, cruz uncertainty i could easily see a WR. RB isnt set in stone either and we def could use some TE help.
The problem with your comment about Unger, or many comments about we should have taken instead of the player we took, is that people tend to forget the number of players who you, or others, wanted to take with a pick who turned out to be busts. You remember the Ungers or Glenn but forget about the losers.

Will you pay me Reese's salary for those years? My expertise does not come cheap...

With Schwartz out who did he have? Seems like a senseless criticism.
week as anyone. His shift to LT saved us. As for Richburg, you can tell he's playing well because he is never mentioned. No penalties, no bull rushes up the middle, etc. I really like Flowers-Pugh-Richburg.
Agree. Night and day compared to the Walton disaster last year.
Agreed. This upcoming draft is very deep at OL. going OL-DL in rounds 1-2 would be ideal. Not to get too far ahead or anything..
As opposed to the "non-project" 7th round picks.
If Hart panned out that would be huge. They haven't had a low round OL pan out for some time. He's a mountain of a man.

GM Jerry Reese BBI motto : "dammed if ya do, dammed if ya dont"
1 more high (draft) pick on the OL - shoild put us in good shape.

Ha! Seriously, this site is awesome...so much info flows through here...you just have to sort out a wee bit of garbage.

Eli getting rid of the ball so fast no doubt helps.
