Speculate On Peyton & Eli's First Post NFL Job

Trainmaster : 10/1/2015 9:58 am
I stumbled across the YouTube video of Michael Strahan's Hall of Fame speech (my DVR cut off and I had only seen part of it). This started me thinking what jobs Peyton and Eli might have after they finally hang up the cleats.

Among the possibilities (some of these weren't their first jobs):

1) NFL Game Color Commentator (e.g. Phil Simms)
2) NFL Pre/Post Game Studio Show (e.g. (Bradshaw)
3) College Head Coach (e.g. Jim Harbaugh)
4) College QB Coach or Offensive Coordinator
5) NFL QB Coach or Offensive Coordinator
6) Manning Academy Full Time
7) Non Sports Entertainment / News Personality (e.g. Michael Strahan)
8) Hanging At Home Only Occasional Commercials (e.g. Favre)
9) ______________ ???
10) _____________ ???

I didn't list NFL Head Coach as a first job as I don't think it's realistic.

My guess is that Eli, with at least 3 young girls at home whenever he retires, wouldn't get into coaching. I see Eli taking the NFL Color Commentator role.

Peyton seems more driven. I'm not sure he would be challenged by a color commentator or studio job. After taking a year or so off, I could see Peyton getting into coaching, probably starting off in college.

Again, pure speculation driven by the amazing post football career(s) Michael Strahan has.

Will be a color analyst.

I honestly think Eli just kind of goes away.
If I recall correctly Michael needed, not wanted,

a post NFL career. Neither Eli or Peyton will need anything beyond something to do.

Eli stays fairly independent and focuses on family and the Manning Academy.

Peyton enjoys the bright lights more than Eli does. He joins the broadcasting world in some capacity.

They even get Cooper some cameo appearances.
I can see Peyton doing some form of announcing...

I think Eli just enjoys life after football with the family.

I think they'll both continue to do commercials. I could be totally wrong but they seem to enjoy doing these.

Eli as a color commentator!!! COME ON NOW! the exchange would go like this: So Eli what do you think the Raiders do today against the Broncos- " I think they will do some good things and may need to work little harder on other things. Sound like the QB has a knee attached to a ankle. But other than that they will continue to improve doing good things....
seriously I don't waste time reading any of Eli's interviews. He give vanilla (as in basic) a bad name..

Peyton will remain if football to some capacity or another. Sure he will take some time off first but not too long. The itch will get him sooner than it would Eli. I don't see him as a commentator although he could do it. I think he will get into coaching. Offensive Coordinator in the NFL is not so far fetched IMHO.

Eli could move to commentator. I can see that. I'm sure he's holding back when he speaks to reporters now to tow the company line. He'd be freed up to give his opinion as a commentator. I don't think he goes that route right away though. I think Eli will ride off into the sunset and relax for several years. He will still have the Manning passing academy, endorsements, lecture circuit, etc. Eventually he will get back into football somehow. Commentator seems about right.
Eli plays QB until his early 40s

wins 2 more super bowls and after retiring inherits the HC gig from the old man Coughlin. Eli goes on to coach the Giants to 4 super bowls as HC.

Does that work for everyone?

I agree with most
blakjedi : 10/1/2015 10:41 am : link
Peyton will go into TV either as an analyst or commentator. Although Eli is better looking, (pause) Peyton sounds "smarter."

Eli will probably just run the Manning Academy and do philanthropy... he will probably introduce Peyton at Peytons Gold Jacket ceremony and wait for his own...
Eli a commentator?
beatrixkiddo : 10/1/2015 10:45 am : link
Really? Common. I'm a fan of Eli, but no way in hell does he have commentator written on him, Just doesn't have a voice or personality for television sorry. I see him spending time with his family and his off field football activities.

Peyton, he can do anything honestly. Would be excellent replacement for Simms, or he could go the way of coaching. Who knows.

I agree - if one of the two goes into broadcasting - it will be Payton. I don't see Eli pursuing (or enjoying) a job like That.

It is not like he is going to need the money .... he seems to live a low key type of lifestyle. I bet he has all the money he will ever need - already. I can see him pulling a "Johnny Carson" and disappear.
Eli will work with youth, put much time into

Peyton as oft-stated will be a color guy, but I wouldn't be surprised if he takes a shot at OC..

You might be right ... but, that doesn't mean Simms will be out of a job. There is more than 1 game a week .... ; )

Yeah I agree. I think Eli will do charity work, commercials and endorsements, but I tend to believe he will shy away from any kind of actual network NFL stuff
Whatever Gig Eli Gets First
Trainmaster : 10/1/2015 11:27 am : link
I see it allowing him to either stay in the NY area or only take him away from home a day or so a week.

I believe the Inside the NFL show is filmed in the NY/NJ area. Right now the show is awful and if I were Eli I wouldn't get within 20 miles of the show, but by the time he retires (4 to 5 years from now?) maybe there will be a better host (Adam Schein is terrible) and better ex-players (Boomer, Brandon Marshall and crack wagon Michael Irvin are really bad too). As others have said, it seems Eli would be comfortable simply with the Manning Academy, commercials and charity work.

Peyton seems as if he'd get "ants in his pants" just doing Manning Academy and commercials. While I think he'd do very well as an NFL color analyst, I'd bet he gets some kind of NFL gig after a year or so. I wonder if he'd be able to go straight to an OC role, or would he more likely be a QB coach first?

Peyton would be a rookie compared to Simms.

You know how long it took Simms and Collinsworth to get where they're at now?

I kinda agree...but Peyton is pretty polished in his communication skills. Still, it would be a risk......doing an entire NFL game is not easy. Talking for 10 minutes is much easier.

I remember Simms sitting in on ESPN NFL Prime Time and taking viewers thru certain game highlights during the playoffs....he really did start off at the bottom and worked his way up.
