NFT: Tristan Thompson's contract demands are ridiculous

DanMetroMan : 10/2/2015 12:09 pm
The Cavs have offered him 5 for 80, he countered with (and is holding firm at 3 for 53 or 5 years 94). I actually like Thompson but turning down 5 years 80 is crazy to begin with. On what planet is Thompson a 94 million dollar player? He's 6th or 7th man on that Cavs team.
It's seriously mind boggling

This is Tristan fucking Thompson
haha
UConn4523 : 10/2/2015 1:17 pm : link
he could be just playing it right. He was a spark for them last year and a monster on the boards IIRC. Who's going to do that for them in the small window they have with LeBron?

Smart play by Thompson.
if im CLE...
Italianju : 10/2/2015 1:27 pm : link
im pissed. There is no way that Thompson is worth anywhere near that. He is going into his 5th year and has mostly been disappointing. He is obviously playing on the fact that CLE has no leverage and really cant afford to let him walk for nothing. If im CLE im looking to see what his value around the league is. No reason to pay him 18 mill to be a backup PF.
I'd

be shocked if the Cavs back down. They have Mozgov, Love, they have Varejao returning, signed Sasha Kaun and sitting out the year just means Thompson remains an RFA
Agree it is crazy
Deej : 10/2/2015 1:32 pm : link
I think he's somewhat LeBron made (and way an overdraft).

Not following it a ton, but a few days ago it sounded like LeBron wasnt really pushing hard for TT to be taken care of. True?
Maybe the trade him...
Italianju : 10/2/2015 1:34 pm : link
for some guard help. Considering how often Irving gets hurt they could really use more guard depth. You know unless you want to put all your faith in Jr, Shump, and Dellavedova again.
Supposedly
DanMetroMan : 10/2/2015 1:37 pm : link
both Portland and Toronto (he's from there) have sniffed around.
The problem is
nygiants16 : 10/2/2015 1:40 pm : link
he is Lebron's best friend on the team and they share the same agent...

Lebron has lobbied for Tristan to get his money and you know if he says something to the Cavs they are going to pay Tristan...

They are not going to risk pissing Lebron off again by letting his best friend on the team go...

Remember Lebron runs that team what he says goes..
GM Lebron is quite an interesting story.

Kinda feels like it has disaster written all over it.

If that's the case then why wouldn't they have buckled by now? Doesn't make sense. If they 100% will listen to Lebron the deal would be done.
maybe lebron is struggling..
Italianju : 10/2/2015 1:48 pm : link
to understand why Tristan Thompson is only going to make a couple mill less a year then him.

Maybe it has not come to that?

Maybe he isnt pushing for it?

I know at the start of free agency he mentioned his goal was to get guys paid, and that included Tristan, he was waiting for everyone to get signed and then he was going to sign..

Maybe something happened between then and now and he is no longer pushing for it?
You

guys think Phil goes after Howard if he opts out? or does Lopez stop that pursuit?
not sure how...
Italianju : 10/2/2015 1:59 pm : link
Howard would fit with Lopez. I guess one of them could play PF but then what about KP. I think we need to upgrade our guards more then our bigs.
.
DanMetroMan : 10/2/2015 2:08 pm : link
He was their 2nd best player
dep026 : 10/2/2015 2:10 pm : link
in the playoffs. He is never hurt. His game is perfect for Lebron. They are doing the smart thing. Is he worth what he is asking for? Of course not. But he also knows the value he brings to Lebron, so if Lebron approves - he will get it.

I've never been one too put much stock in whether a guy is "made for NY" or "can handle NY"...but Howard sure seems like one of those guys that would have a tough time here.
I think the first target is obviously Durant
nygiants16 : 10/2/2015 2:12 pm : link
but if i am the Knicks i go hard after Conley..

Lol SAS will come out and say oh i did not hear any Rumors i was just speculating, i was not trying to break any news..

he did the same thing after Melo basically shitted on his story about wanting out of New York, he said Melo never said that it was him just saying what he would do if he was Melo...

SAS is a joke who claims to be close to the players but whenever he says anything that player says i do not talk to SAS..
the math starts to get pretty crazy
Enzo : 10/2/2015 2:16 pm : link
on Cleveland's luxury tax bill if they give Thompson $18 per or something like that. He's basically a glorified role player, but at least you are signing him for his peek years. On a somewhat related note, I have no idea why any of these guys hire Rich Paul as their agent. And in other news...big shocker that Sumpert is hurt again. I root for him, but the guy is always dealing with some sort of injury.
