AH-HA that's a great story.
There's a bootleg tape of every Dead performance. Floating around somewhere is Bill Murray singing Louie Louie with the world's best backing band !!
I've been on a month+ long Grateful Dead binge trying to listen to as many live shows as possible. I grew up with my Dad playing American Beauty and Workingman's Dead and I've always known the hits, but it wasn't until recently that I did a deep dive. I've started a playlist on Spotify called "live dead" if anyone is interested. I've seen Furthur twice and they were really good. Can't imagine the many peaks of the actual band.
Saw 40+ shows between 89' and the end. Would have traded any of them to serve the band drinks and make cash doing it.
The new whatever with Mayer is playing in my backyard in Nov. And I'm really not that interested. Had more fun catching the San Fran and Chicago shows with trey from my couch than paying that much money to see a well done but not the same thing show.

Digging through 50 years worth of music is half the fun. Enjoy!
I just never like The Dead. I like a broad spectrum of music but never had the appreciation for them that some others had. I was told a few times that you'd have to see them live to really get into their music.
Wonder if other BBIers began to listen to The Dead only after seeing them perform?
