In response to him insulating that Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard were not power pitchers. Met fans went after him on Twitter and that was his response
douche. There's a reason Francesa blows him out of the water. It's killing him that not only are the Mets GOOD, it's a sustainable good.
Maybe he's trying to get more Mets fans to listen to his show. His small group of listeners are probably 90% Yankees fans. And from what I understand, Yankees fans can't stand him either.
asshole, always was always will be. no class jerk who got where he
A little surprising that a professional would say something like that, but meh. I don't really care because I love the Mets booth so much ... makes me feel bad for the Yankees fans who have to tolerate Kay and Sterling on the radio.
to tell let's say 35 percent of your potential listening audience to chock on your own bile? You think that will help your radio show get out of 7th place in its time slot? Yeah he will get a boost on Monday for his reaction to the mess he created but by Tuesday he will have lost potential listeners which I imagine his sponsors are thrilled about

for him it's smart because he only cares about the Yankees gig. HE couldn't cover them after Torre called him out in front of the whole locker room. He made his bones by being George's spy and planting George's "unnamed source" bullshit in the paper.
And he's eased up a bit but he is actually affected by the comments of random people on social media. He talks about it all the time. That likely goes along with the rest of his extremely odd personality quirks. He's just a weird geeky doofus. But he's also a nice dude. I've met him and he was very friendly, and I know people in that industry who all say he's a genuinely good guy. Still a bizarre goofball.
for a guy with a big ego to not only get smoked in ratings on his radio show, but to constantly hear that the broadcast team for the Mets is among the best.
He should be gracious and humble that he's the voice for the premiere franchise in baseball. I imagine that most other announcers would do anything for his job.
and I only say it this way because I didn't hear him actually say it. If DeGrom and Syndergard aren't power pitchers then I don't know who is. That has to be the dumbest thing he could have said. As for his, broadcast skills I would take Sterling over him in a heartbeat.
Is likely the worst play by play man in American sports. He's like a Simpsons parody of a bad baseball announcer. Kay may be a jerkoff but he's not a bad play by play guy and actually pays attention to the game. Compared to sterling he is Vin Scully.
I can't imagine he was serious about the power pitcher thing. Either that or he doesn't know what a power pitcher is. Which would seem odd considering he is a baseball announcer. If he's serious, as Headhunter said, you have to ask yourself how he gets paid well to talk about sports and announce games. Also have to wonder how anyone could listen to him talk sports and trust he has a clue what he is talking about
As a Yankee fan I neither like nor dislike Kay, but I was never one to get worked up about announcers.
I would be curious as to what precipitated the "choke on your own bile" comment.
Even though he probably should have walked away from a Twitter discussion that became heated, my guess is that the Met fans said something inappropriate as well.

He said they're not power pitchers, I heard it. Their fastballs don't make them power pitchers, it's their secondary stuff that gets them that designation.
It somehow morphed into how terrible and irrational Met fans are, and how Greinke and Scherzer are so much better than the other two.
he was able to take thirty seconds away from telling us about he never had condiments or caffeine
Hard to take anyone seriously who's an adult and only likes to eat hamburgers, steak and chicken parm, and hasn't ever tried soup or an egg. When he talks about things like caffeine or weed or the attire of young athletes you get the impression that he was the type of guy who asked the teacher for more homework, told on other kids when they did "naughty" things, and went to bed at 8pm after he finished his second round of Ring Dings
Think it's hilarious when fans of NYC teams from NYC think fans of other NYC teams are somehow different. Met fans are vile and vicious but Yankee fans are classy and charming...right. Apparently the uniform you root for adjusts your personality regardless of the fact that people from the same family in the same house can like different teams. Fans here say it too. If you're a Giant fan you must be a knowledgeable, enlightened New Yorker but if you are a Jet fan you likely eat your own feces and beat your wife. Such a weird and idiotic idea
And yet, factually accurate as anyone who's ever been
However I still don't know exactly what Kay said regarding the Mets pitchers or what some Mets fans said on twitter.
It sounds like he was originally saying on his talk radio show (where he's paid to express his opinions) that the Mets would have trouble with Kershaw and Greinke because they were power pitchers and the SOME Mets fans took that to mean deGrom and Syndergaard were NOT power pitchers.
It's also important to note that his comment was not directed at ALL Mets fans, just the handful of Mets Twitter responders who MAY have responded a little too harshly. (Not seeing the Twitter feed it's tough to assign blame.)
I do know that just about everyone on this thread has participated in both an intelligent, respectful sports discussion...as well as other threads where it turned into a pissing match and we made our own "choke on your own bile" type of comments when we just couldn't take it any more.

Hold on Seth, there is substantial evidence the intellect and genetic makeup of the Jets fans is far below the average human being. :)

This is exactly it. Kay even specified in the show that his comments are directed at the idiots that were personally attacking him and his family, certainly not all Mets fans. The mob mentality on this thread is the exact mob mentality that we see on Twitter.
Kay is an idiot, and he's a dreadful announcer. He also has a temper and should stay off of social media. His comments were out of line, for sure. But he was not referring to ALL Mets fans.
That it's just him getting defensive because he was being attached by a group, similar to what happens on a message board like this one.
But to even say that these people are vile and vicious because they root for the mets, not because they are just people on Twitter who have nothing to fear by being vicious so they go overboard, is just dumb. I mean does he think if Don Lagreca made some sort of inflammatory suggestion about the yanks on Twitter that he wouldn't be attacked in the exact same way? It's just how certain idiots behave because they have a way to directly insult a public figure and not have to fear any consequence
That thing has to be the hardest test I've ever taken by a wide margin. People who get into Stuyvesant are made to look like fools when they take that test
but is it true Asians start studying for the Stuyvesant entrance exam at conception?
Yes. Actually it starts in the womb with special vitamins and mom reading math textbooks out loud while pregnant.
In all seriousness I have multiple friend stories about Asian students becoming overwhelmed with sadness and failure because they got a 92 and not a 99 or 100 on a test.

I have a vivid memory of my freshman math class, where after the first test some kid went person to person asking them what they got. It was cringeworthy, as most kids didn't want to answer, but he would push and prod. When he got to me, I told him to go fuck himself, in those exact words, and the teacher heard me and gave me detention.

Doubt that. He is generating buzz. That is probably what he intended to do with those comments. Why else would you say the guy with the highest average fastball in the NL is not a power pitcher?
Next show will probably have more Met fans tuning in than ever before.
I'm less interested in the bitterness directed at Kay than wondering what he meant by the original comment. It's not like he or deGrom nibble.
I mean, deGrom looks slight, so I can think of why you wouldn't look at him and see prototypical power pitcher -- but he does come at people with 95 mph up in the zone (which usually seems to be a pretty fair picture of a power pitcher).
But everything about Syndegaard says power pitcher. He's an enormous human being, and he rarely throws a FB under 95 (been at 96-99 today). So I'm not even sure (if that was a legitimate comment, rather than just a troll job) what he was saying.
You think Kay pays attention do you. Have you ever noticed how often he gets the count wrong. Or how often he gets the pitch location wrong on balls and strikes. He's too busy with statistical information and asking stupid questions to his broadcast partners.

I meant in comparison to Sterling. Sterling has no interest in the game until he can make an ass out of himself on a home run call. He is a radio announcer who actually makes it more confusing to know what's going on by speaking. At least Kay is a functioning broadcaster.
Maybe he's trying to get more Mets fans to listen to his show. His small group of listeners are probably 90% Yankees fans. And from what I understand, Yankees fans can't stand him either.
Never have cared much for his in-game announcing.
A little surprising that a professional would say something like that, but meh. I don't really care because I love the Mets booth so much ... makes me feel bad for the Yankees fans who have to tolerate Kay and Sterling on the radio.

The next time that guy says something that matters will be the first.

Safety school
If they are less lazy they could try their craft on Lehman college kids. Step it up from the minor leagues.
As a Bronx Science graduate I prefer to use Neil Degrasse Tyson as a rep over Michael Kay . Just a better all around guy to call a fellow alum
Factually accurate like Met fans are only Jet fans. In other words blatantly ridiculous and false

Definitely. Never been a Bronx Science grad who rooted for the Jets

Must have missed it.
Gets the Asian women all hot and bothered
Yes, when they should all just be ashamed that they didnt get into Hunter.
