NFT: Yankees vs Orioles 10/3 Doubleheader

illmatic : 10/3/2015 1:16 pm
Down 2-0 in the bottom of the 4th right now. The Yankees are already 0-5 with RISP. I know these final games don't mean much at this point but I'd rather see them head into the wild card game being hot. Especially with the bats.

And I believe they need one more win or an Astros loss to lock up the game being in New York but I might be wrong about that.

Why is Ryan
batman11 : 10/3/2015 8:13 pm : link
playing in this game? Holy crap!
3-2 after a Heathcott
illmatic : 10/3/2015 8:13 pm : link
"double" aka misplayed ball in left. It was second and third nobody out until Ryan hit a soft ball to the pitcher. Now it's second and third with 1 out. Gotta tie the game up at the very least.

And Ryan better not see the fucking field on Tuesday. He's a joke.
Ya know
BigBlueShock : 10/3/2015 8:30 pm : link
the only reason Ryan continues to get put in the lineup is because of his defense. His defense has been putrid. So, what gives?

No kidding. But at what point does he realize that's not paying off?
Jim Palmer is a schmuck...
Dunedin81 : 10/3/2015 8:35 pm : link
whining about the Severino pitch, as though the kid is headhunting at the #9 hitter in a tie game with postseason implications. Helluva pitcher but bar none the most irrational homer in baseball.

And Ryan is playing because Headley is tired. I don't like Ryan but the only reason he has a roster spot right now is because we don't have a backup 3B. Pirela could fake it in a pinch but it's not ideal with him either.

BigBlueShock : 10/3/2015 8:45 pm : link
That's great, if this was a one time deal. But Girardi keeps running Ryan out there much more than just tonight to give Headley a breather. And their opinions of Ryan has obviously played a part in not having a viable backup 3rd baseman on the roster. Let's not act like their hands are tied and they have no responsibility for that
Girardi
Phil in LA : 10/3/2015 8:48 pm : link

absolutely pathetic that the GM couldn't upgrade the bench
Stu11 : 10/3/2015 8:51 pm : link
at all this year. Also lately the defense has been beyond horrible no matter who the hell is in there so may as well have our best bats.
C'mon let's pull this out.

as I say that we are lucky we didn't have 2 errors on one play there

It will be ugly as it already is but I think we win this game to clinch homefield. Probably score the winning run on an error or wild pitch😀
Severino has been great barring the 2 homers he gave up.
Ace718 : 10/3/2015 9:10 pm : link
Breezing through the innings here. Just 91 pitches in 7 innings.
Just 91 pitches for Severino and Joe is ending his night.
Ace718 : 10/3/2015 9:12 pm : link
I'd let him pitch the 8th with the score tied.

I hate Ryan, I thought they could have found a utility guy who contributed something else (eg base-stealing), but his versatility was his selling point. They overrated his defense, which was middling at best this year, but with Headley as the starter it made sense to have a backup 3B.
I know I'm dogging the Yanks right now
Stu11 : 10/3/2015 9:16 pm : link
but watching the Angels today and flipping over to the MLB network and the Stros game those teams are having a blast. I think they'd sleep at the park right now. Us? It looks like there are a 100 places we'd rather be than the ballpark.

Joe is kind of going for it here
illmatic : 10/3/2015 9:19 pm : link
bringing in Betances in a tie game. I doubt he wants to pitch him again tomorrow. And the leadoff man gets on against him for the Orioles.
Betances
PaulN : 10/3/2015 9:24 pm : link
Fucking right arm is going to fly into the fucking O's dugout if he throws any more pitches this season. Joe is killing this kid.
Should have stuck with Severino one more inning.
Ace718 : 10/3/2015 9:25 pm : link
Joe Binders sucks.
Clueless Joe
PaulN : 10/3/2015 9:25 pm : link
Now we have a true clueless Joe.
Second wild pitch or passed ball
illmatic : 10/3/2015 9:25 pm : link
whatever it could be called this inning. And there goes the lead and that's probably it for this game with the way this offense is.
They suck.
section125 : 10/3/2015 9:27 pm : link
Holy shit. Dink single. Two WPs and a bunt.
Of coarse
PaulN : 10/3/2015 9:27 pm : link
Joe Girardi has become a horrific manager. He is managing scared, I am convinced, he is doing the only thing he knows to do, go to the same players they he thinks got him here, BUT, where did they get him! He is making a fucking ass of himself.
Betances
PaulN : 10/3/2015 9:29 pm : link
Is shot. He has not been the same as he was in the first half, just like the rest of the bullpen other then Miller, who got a well needed rest n the injured reserve.
Joe
federer70 : 10/3/2015 9:30 pm : link
Wow we are about to lose this game. Guess joe will go all out to win tomorrow. Joe should have gone all out in the first game
Betances is not shot.
Ace718 : 10/3/2015 9:32 pm : link
He's struggling but labeling him as shot would be stretching it.

He should have gone full out this afternoon.
by the way in this little league park
Stu11 : 10/3/2015 9:35 pm : link
is it too much to ask ARod to walk from the dugout to home plate 8 times in one day after having yesterday off? I know he hasn't been great lately, but in this park a 360 foot pop up to left field gets you a run.
Noel is caught stealing

to the surprise of no one. This team sucks. They probably deserve to lose on the road rather than at home.

again.
Talk about shitting luck...
Dunedin81 : 10/3/2015 9:41 pm : link
the softest of line drives, a bunt single and a wild pitch and we lose the game. Betances didn't even pitch poorly.
The turning point
B in ALB : 10/3/2015 9:42 pm : link
was Brendan Ryan at bat with men on and no outs. Weak cunt grounded back to the pitcher. At least get the guy in from third asshole. You knew right then the inning would collapse.
Yanks
federer70 : 10/3/2015 9:42 pm : link
Gotta manage like game 7 tomorrow. Like he should of in first came today. Gotta play all the regulars. We have to have homefield

Two WPs, he didn't pitch well. They don't score with the blooper and the bunt.
If this team loses to Chris Tillman tommorrow
Stu11 : 10/3/2015 9:46 pm : link
I really don't know what to say. The guy has been serving up BP for a month.
Hope they enjoyed popping champagne for getting into a play in game

McCann looks gassed too, that decisive WP could have been stopped.

Sorry. That's all I got.

At some point they need to shake off the hangovers and play some ball. Good lord.

McCann looked crossed up. It was an awful pitch.

Has been shot for a while now, he is not nearly what he was, and it has been this way for a while now, not just lately. Joe has fucked him up. This guy is so overused that it is pathetic. All those times he went and got him in the 7th when he never had to, Joe has fucked this up totally, and Cashman and the sunny boys have to be disgraced for not helping this team, I hope they are happy counting the money they saved at the trade deadline, they should have added Zobrist, but they stuck with Drew because his defense, which lost us two fucking important games down the stretch.
Along with Zobrist
nygnyy274 : 10/3/2015 10:14 pm : link
Another reliever should of been added. Everyone was against the Yankees making a move for a releiver. We are now seeing why the the Yankees need another solid reliever because Sherve and Betances have been god awful for over a month now because they are overused. Miller and Wilson are our only reliable relievers now

They had plenty of relievers in Goody, Rumbelow, Pinder, Bailey, etc., if he would have kept one or two up the whole time and let them get comfortable.

Zobrist? You would have wanted to give up Bird or Mateo for 2 months of Zobrist? Because that's what Billy Beane was asking for.

Rasmus has hit 2 bombs and every time he hits one they set up this conga line in the dugout and Hank Conger does this robot dance. It might one of the funniest things I've seen all year.

Mets are done. Nice story but not the team of NY
Until they win 28 rings
B in ALB : 10/3/2015 10:54 pm : link
They'll always be the minor league team.

But they're definitely not done this year. They're better than the Yankees this year unless the Yankees somehow go further in the playoffs. I'm not holding my breath.

Plus when Cespedes leaves, they may be one and done. It's not fair to compare 27. I think since 1962, the Yankees have won 8 to the Mets 2. Minor league team is harsh but I guess you're right.

Francesca is right - the Yankees have what he calls "the Yankees magic". They'll find a way. Mets may be facing a sweep by LA and then 9 years of playoff-less baseball.
