Down 2-0 in the bottom of the 4th right now. The Yankees are already 0-5 with RISP. I know these final games don't mean much at this point but I'd rather see them head into the wild card game being hot. Especially with the bats.
And I believe they need one more win or an Astros loss to lock up the game being in New York but I might be wrong about that.
Whether Shreve is hurt or tired or what, I don't know. But this attempt to see if you can get him right in time for the postseason has clearly failed. Figure out if one of Pinder or Goody or Pazos can get it done as you get ready for the postseason.
No clue why Houston allowed him to throw 99 pitches last night in a blowout knowing he was pitching on 3 days rest. Very odd.
I think Shreve has hit "the wall." He is running on fumes.
[quote] Has it been announced that Keuchs will be pitching on short rest Tuesday? Isn't he like 15-0 at home but yet quite pedestrian on the road? [/quote
Doesn't matter with the inconsistency of this yankee offense, back in August he pitched his best game on the road this season against the Yankees 7 shut out innings 9 strikeouts
And he starts the righty-righty lefty-lefty madness
Two of the biggest homers in baseball remarking on Foster's shitty strike zone, you know it's bad.
I think Gardner is hurt. He just doesn't have good swings anymore.
Probably in his head, too.
All he did was put more pressure on his team by having a lineup where Chris young is your fucking cleanup hitter. Really!!!!! And you had to figure everytime Jose Pirela came to the plate there would be runners in scoring position and of course, he makes out.
Then with the game far from being out of reach he brings in a guy who for a month has been a horror show and for all intents and purposes hands the game over to the Orioles by bringing Shreve into the game. Not only have theYankees played poorly Joe Girardi has managed poorly as well.

useless. Another 2 strike rbi single.

Agreed Shreve needs to be moved on from, he's not a viable option this season. I think he'll be a good piece again next year - but he cannot be on the postseason roster and it wouldn't shock me if he is. That Machado swinging bunt was awful luck, and some weren't hard hit but he struggled far beyond those couple batters.
I think he's just gassed - he's pitched this many innings before in the minors - but 1st season in the bigs. Never so many high leverage, high stress innings in a playoff race. He has just totally lost his command, can't even though a strike lately - less erratic today but still only threw about 50% strikes.
If they win either tonight or tomorrow, they'll have the game in New York. If they lose both games and the Astros win both games, they're going to Houston.
Either one more win OR one Houston loss
Which would (I think) mean a one game playoff for the AL West title Monday.
Kind of confusing what he is doing. Just win the effin game and then sit the starters.

This +1
Girardi has always been a well respected manager, and he has had a horrible month also. How he kept Drew in all this time and refused to bring up Refsnyder is just beyond words, and to be honest, I am not so certain that he will not keep Ryan in over Refsnyder even now. How they see Ryan or Drew as better defensive options is mind boggling, on what planet is Refsnyder's defense below par since he has been here.
The teams defense is terrible, Headly has become the new Knoblauch. I love McCann, he is a good hitter, clutch too, he calls a great game, he has a very good arm, but there are more pass balls this season then I can ever remember. I can go on and on, but there is no point, we are soon going to find out the results on the field.
It's the ensuing round that isn't looking so good...
Why the hell we aren't making Jimenez throw strikes is beyond me. Terrible effort all around today.
And Ryan better not see the fucking field on Tuesday. He's a joke.
No kidding. But at what point does he realize that's not paying off?
And Ryan is playing because Headley is tired. I don't like Ryan but the only reason he has a roster spot right now is because we don't have a backup 3B. Pirela could fake it in a pinch but it's not ideal with him either.
I hate Ryan, I thought they could have found a utility guy who contributed something else (eg base-stealing), but his versatility was his selling point. They overrated his defense, which was middling at best this year, but with Headley as the starter it made sense to have a backup 3B.
Joe just makes you scratch your head.
He should have gone full out this afternoon.
Two WPs, he didn't pitch well. They don't score with the blooper and the bunt.
Quote:
the softest of line drives, a bunt single and a wild pitch and we lose the game. Betances didn't even pitch poorly.

McCann looks gassed too, that decisive WP could have been stopped.
Sorry. That's all I got.
At some point they need to shake off the hangovers and play some ball. Good lord.

McCann looked crossed up. It was an awful pitch.
They had plenty of relievers in Goody, Rumbelow, Pinder, Bailey, etc., if he would have kept one or two up the whole time and let them get comfortable.
Zobrist? You would have wanted to give up Bird or Mateo for 2 months of Zobrist? Because that's what Billy Beane was asking for.
Sorry. That's all I got.

Mets are done. Nice story but not the team of NY
But they're definitely not done this year. They're better than the Yankees this year unless the Yankees somehow go further in the playoffs. I'm not holding my breath.

Plus when Cespedes leaves, they may be one and done. It's not fair to compare 27. I think since 1962, the Yankees have won 8 to the Mets 2. Minor league team is harsh but I guess you're right.
Francesca is right - the Yankees have what he calls "the Yankees magic". They'll find a way. Mets may be facing a sweep by LA and then 9 years of playoff-less baseball.
