Bye bye homefield

At least Thor pitched well...
I am most worried about our performance against
CMicks3110 : 10/3/2015 5:33 pm : link
Left Handed pitchers. Cuddyer is such a big step down from Conforto IMO, and lefties neutralize Granderson as well. Sure, Wright hits better against Lefties, but its not discernable enough to make up for the production lost from Conforto/Granderson.
In all likelihood
CMicks3110 : 10/3/2015 5:34 pm : link
we're only going to face one right handed starter this series, and that's greinke. If I'm the dogers, I'm starting Kershaw twice, and Alex Wood in game 3.
Dodgers activate Puig
Steve in South Jersey : 10/3/2015 5:51 pm : link
he will bat 6th tonight. He has missed so much time I doubt he'll bring his A game to the Mets series.

It's a concern, especially with them basically having a week off before they play again

This has 1-0 written all over it
speedywheels : 10/3/2015 8:43 pm : link
This offense blows chunks right now.

Losing 5 in a row is not the way to enter the playoffs.
And there you go
speedywheels : 10/3/2015 8:47 pm : link
Pen gives up more runs. Awesome
They aren't even trying
speedywheels : 10/3/2015 8:57 pm : link
Pathetic effort tonight.
Scherzer has fanned 12 through 7
Giants4246 : 10/3/2015 8:57 pm : link
and we had at least 10 k's the first game. This is just like the K fests this team had back in may and june.
Embarrassing

Rubin points out that the Mets have scored 1 run

Do they really think they can just turn it on come Friday?

Terrible way to go into playiffs
Perhaps the off days

Allow this hitting stink to wear off. Get loose.

Good luck with that against Grienke and Kershaw in LA
Can they at least win tomorrow and get to 90 wins?

I mean what the fuck man come on
Well at least they'll
Rflairr : 10/3/2015 9:18 pm : link
Have something else in common with the Dodgers. Both no hit twice this season
this team needs a few rounds of bp against oflaherity

That was extraordinary

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that this is probably the first time ever that 2 teams about to play against each other in the playoffs have each been no hit twice during the season.

Doubt it. Have two teams faced each other in the playoffs that were both no hit twice in a season?

to lose 5 games
SethFromAstoria : 10/3/2015 9:45 pm : link
in a row with the kind of momentum we had, and just needing to win 2 of those 5 and we get home field....I mean it's not completely unimportant to get home games. Its just absurd to be so lax. I don't get it at all.

the one positive
SethFromAstoria : 10/3/2015 10:12 pm : link
that can come out of this is if they are embarrassed enough that it shocks them back to reality. Jump-starts their effort. Because truthfully they should be embarrassed as can be.
i think terry and the front office took foot off the gas after

cespedes got hit and decided health was more important than home field

Agreed and they are probably right but foot off the gas or not, the bullpen guys can still actually get outs and hitters can not half ass it. Those things have nothign to do with management.
If deGrom
pjcas18 : 10/3/2015 10:31 pm : link
Thor and Harvey pitch like this in the playoffs the Mets are world champs. they'll hit enough, starting pitching is the positive takeaway.

those three were what the Mets needs them to be to win the WS.

stay positive....
SethFromAstoria : 10/3/2015 10:54 pm : link
yes stay positive

100 percent agree with C Giants at 10:14
Phil in Joisey : 10/3/2015 11:59 pm : link
The Mets spit out the bit when Cespedes got hit and that was the end of any attempt for home field advantage. Of course we now see stats that suggest home field is not that big an advantage at playoff time....but it would have been nice.
Let's hope Kershas revisits his playoff blues.

Let's hope they get going because really I have no idea what they were doing this week with homefield on the line. How do you get swept by the Phils, who are fielding a AAA lineup?

that HBP

Home advantage in baseball
5BowlsSoon : 10/4/2015 8:36 am : link
Means little, so no big deal. But what can you say about one Matt Scherzer. Man, that guy is a beast.
It's not only losing HF
speedywheels : 10/4/2015 10:54 am : link
They lost 5 games in a row to teams with NOTHING to play for. And since HF is officially gone, Collins will probably "rest" the starting lineup again today - even though they will have 4 days off after today - which will probably make it a 6 game losing streak to end the season.

What the fuck kind of way is THAT to go into the playoffs?
Sounds like JdG game 1, Thor game 2, Harvey game 3
Eric on Li : 10/4/2015 10:56 am : link
Guessing they won't name game 4 yet because it could be JdG on short rest?

Overall hard to get a feel for how this team will look entering the playoffs. I have faith in the pitchers, but Greinke/Kershaw in 4 games is quite a neutralizer. Does our BP have an advantage? Offensively both teams have similar talent level so it will come down to who steps up at the crucial time. There isn't a single dominant hitter on either squad so it wouldn't shock me to see role guys like Murphy or Utley step up.

My biggest concern is IF defense because it's been consistently shaky all season and I don't think that's an aberration. At this stage of their careers there's not a single infielder on this team you'd grade as a net "positive" and all are prone to mistakes.

Mets are at -37 Defensive Runs Saved combined from their middle infield.

That's worst in MLB by far
(Phillies are next, -26)
Get ready for some serious nail biting in the playoffs
timintey : 10/4/2015 11:17 am : link
We're looking at a bunch of 1-0, 2-1 type games... Need the big 3 on their A games

A very dumb way, it would seem.

But let's see how it plays out. If Mets kick it into gear, then Collins will be vindicated. Otherwise, he will go down as a dolt.
