#Giants TE Daniel Fells had unexpected foot surgery this week and is likely destined for Injured Reserve, sources say. Another G-Men injury

Damn it

I like Fells. Unspectacular but very good.
That sucks - all the best to Fells
jcn56 : 10/5/2015 9:44 am : link
That puts a serious dent in an already thin position.
Sucks
Bill L : 10/5/2015 9:44 am : link
if we had Fells yesterday we win going away.

I thought that the drop by Tye was going to be the turning point in the game. It wasn't...other than it turned us away from a rout.
sucks
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 10/5/2015 9:44 am : link
get better soon Fells.
Has Whitlock ever played TE?
Greg from LI : 10/5/2015 9:45 am : link
Just curious
That sucks
Tuckrule : 10/5/2015 9:45 am : link
Very reliable guy but replicable. Anyone had any insight as to how Tye did in the blocking department. Cunningham should be back sooner than later as well
I actually thought that Donnell
gidiefor : Mod : 10/5/2015 9:45 am : link
did a decent job of blocking yesterday
Hope it's not the end of his career
Ten Ton Hammer : 10/5/2015 9:45 am : link
He's in his 30s, right?
Well, there is the roster spot for Welker
BillT : 10/5/2015 9:45 am : link
Hate to loose Fells though. Hope Dye is up to the task.
That's some tough news
sjnyfan : 10/5/2015 9:46 am : link
Our best and most complete TE on the roster. Time to hit the phones JR
They have to do SOMEthing, right?
Ten Ton Hammer : 10/5/2015 9:48 am : link
Can't play 3 quarters of the season with Will Tye and Donnell.
For The Life Of Me...
looie : 10/5/2015 9:51 am : link
...I don't understand why Reese et.al. have not upgraded the TE position in recent years via FA or draft. TE is a serious offensive weapon on most teams but not on the Giants. Now we're down to Donnell (ugh) and a cast of nobodies. A serious flaw on this team.
ADRIEN ROBINSON!!! Welcome Back, buddy!!!

the kid can do it all (he's really our new "Slash"). How about H-back / TE as his next job?

Fauria gets a call
nygiants16 : 10/5/2015 9:52 am : link
he has already been in for a workout with the Giants a couple of weeks ago...

Problem is he is more of receiving Tight End rather than blocking...

Maybe Giants give a call to the Bears?

Toth029 : 10/5/2015 9:52 am : link
Don't think they can seriously rely on Tye as a serious option.
If they don't go after Robinson
ij_reilly : 10/5/2015 9:52 am : link
that would be quite telling, regarding what they think of him.
I definitely think A.Robinson will be brought back
CMicks3110 : 10/5/2015 9:52 am : link
he is a decent blocker.
Damn I kinda liked Fells
USAF NYG Fan : 10/5/2015 9:59 am : link
I hope this gets Reese to look for a trade somewhere. Just an above average TE would be a great addition for this team right now.
Uh oh.
Dave in Hoboken : 10/5/2015 10:00 am : link
This might make Reese actually pick up a phone. I feel for him.

While the Giants were taking care of business in Buffalo, tight end Daniel Fells was hospitalized back home. He spent the weekend addressing a foot infection that required multiple surgeries and will likely end his season, a person with knowledge of the situation told NJ Advance Media.

This is a joke, right? Robinson could never even figure out WHO to block when he played.

Fells would provide more value playing with crutches and a boot.

Eric from BBI : Admin : 10/5/2015 10:10 am : link
So what kind of infection would he had gotten that requires "multiple" surgeries?
Staph, I guess.

ij_reilly : 10/5/2015 10:13 am : link
Something has to be wrong with the staff, training, something is off.

I would like to see the Giants bring in an outside consultant to evaluate the fitness/health aspects of the organization.

Or maybe MRSA, like Tynes had to deal with?

Robinson knows the playbook and is a familiar face. Not a slam dunk he comes back, but it sort of feels like the type of thing Coughlin would do in this instance.
I would guess a staph infection maybe
micky : 10/5/2015 10:16 am : link
Hope he makes a quick recovery.
Not to worry, we have Tye

Fells

was very good. I'd take him over Donnell. Better hards, better blocker.
Best TE on the roster.

Big loss.
Contact the Chicago Bears
geelabee : 10/5/2015 10:20 am : link
And inquire about Matelleus Bennet who is the closest thing to an impact TE out there...the guy is still young and is close to elite/ Pro Bowl level...like Landon Collins...I would trade a 4th or 5th round pick to get this guy...
We have to wait til week 8 for robinson
Joey from GlenCove : 10/5/2015 10:21 am : link
right?

Fells was one of the most quietly productive players I've seen in a while. Guy was almost never talked about by anyone but seemed to pop up and make a play when we needed one and felt reliable. I liked him more than Donnell. Sucks this happened.
For some of the TE plays
bc4life : 10/5/2015 10:23 am : link
at least the blocking ones - use Whitlock.

Bennett would be a huge addition, but would cost us too much. he had 11 receptions yesterday for something like 83 yards and a TD too! I'm not so sure the Giants can afford to lose any more draft picks in any potential trade, but it might have to come to that. Maybe a pick the following year would suffice?

Eric from BBI : Admin : 10/5/2015 10:27 am : link
Seriously, how do you go from an "ankle" injury to an infection?
Bennett would be an awesome addition
Sonic Youth : 10/5/2015 10:28 am : link
But probably won't happen.

If I got to play GM, I'd bring in Joseph Fauria. We had a workout with him, he can catch the ball, decent blocker. I don't think he's any worse than Donnell.
He was examined by the Giant doctors
Jimmy Googs : 10/5/2015 10:28 am : link
that's how he ended up in the hospital...

If only Tye had caught that pass

Some here would be promoting him to starting TE

Great question. It really is getting to a point where it does seem valid for people to question the Giants medical staff and doctors. For years, I thought the comments and criticism were unfounded. The last couple of years have been very strange.
Staph is serious stuff

Probably not so much for a pro athlete, but I'm just guessing. That it would require surgery suggests it was pretty urgent

I don't remember his ankle being listed as the injury. I have only seen "foot" as the cause of his absence

I don't recall him listed as having surgery prior to the infection.
