to set up the season then hit their stride after 4 epi's or so. Poor Carrie. She wants to do the right thing and settle down with her daughter but they just won't let her get away from the cesspool of the Middle East. Highlights
1. Quinn is as Quinn as ever
2. That scene with the leader of Hezbollah was what makes this show what it is, it will always have that even when it sinks. Also the backroom briefing with Quinn and the leadership of the CIA was in that class.
3.Amazing how timely relevent they are with the Syrian refugee situation, right out of the news clippings.
Though they share some producers this series isn't quite like 24 -- not every episode is going to have combat, abductions, or people revealing themselves to be a mole or counter-mole. I feel intrigued by the possibilities it presented and could have easily sat and watched another hour. This was certainly not the case with last year's season finale.
I like how this show argues that despite its importance, the CIA and security apparatuses in general are just as prone to flat-out human screw ups as any other human enterprise. The CIA was breached because required disconnections weren't properly made when they migrated servers during a building remodel? I can totally buy that.
I had the same impression
Also... what annoyed me is...at the end of the episode, Saul tells Carries that he's mad because she's being naive and stupid, something which she has not been before. REALLY SAUL????? are you kidding me? do you not know about that little redheaded baby? and all her other fuck-ups?
I thought the same thing! Carrie? Naive/stupid? Has he been watching the past 4 years? those things go together like peanut butter and jelly. In fact I think now is one of the few times she's not being that.
Carrie is forever damaged so I don't see why anyone would expect her to not be but to each their own.
I really like how they are going to bounce (I believe) between Germany, showing US/Euro relations, and Lebanon to maintain the middle east portion of the show that they generally execute really well. The data breach gives way to a tech angle they haven't really had before and the scene with Quinn and the CIA heads was awesome.
season 4 was a great bounce-back season for the show but the finale really cost them a lot of momentum that they had built up. Would've been better IMO to cut season 4 by one episode and just run the second to last ep 90 minutes or so to wrap things up.
Last Sunday's premiere was a good table setter. They tried a little too hard to take stuff from recent news but it did at least paint a coherent story. I'm sure shit will hit the fan in Lebanon pretty quickly.
