Why didn't they take the holding penalty for a safety?

jeffusedtobeonwebtv : 10/5/2015 1:51 pm
The score was 16-3, and there were two flags thrown against the Bills. One was for an illegal pass since the qb was past the line of scrimmage. That was the penalty they accepted. The other call was holding with the flag thrown in the end zone.

Several of the Giants on the sidelines were holding up their hands signaling a safety, but Coughlin took the illegal pass penalty. Now you normally take that one because it entails loss of down as well as yardage, but in this case wouldn't it be a safety with the Giants lead increased to 18-3 and they still would be getting the ball?
the hold itself wasn't in the endzone

thus there was no safety option
because the holding wasn't in the end zone

and it would've been half the distance to the goal AND replay the down, instead of the loss of the down.

holding didn't

occur in the end zone, the OL was in the field of play, it would have been half the distance to the goal, the illegal forward pass included loss of down, it was a better penalty to accept.
I was too busy.,..

trying to figure out if that jackass ref had a Hitler moustache or just an oddly placed crease in his lip.
Are you sure the holding was not in the end zone?

The flag was thrown deep in the end zone, and the quarterback was still several yards deep in the end zone when the flag was thrown.
The hold..

happened on the 2 yard line

Doesn't matter where the QB was, it's where the hold occurred and that was out of the end zone. And yes we're sure.

We are all positive it wasn't in the endzone.
And I'm positive..

Coughlin's safety sign was a really poor effort!
I was leaping up and down clapping above my head

But to no avail. I had a bunch of people over yesterday, wifes friends and a few of mine and I had everyone doing the "safety" dance. How was that not in the End Zone? It wasnt though. Still can't get past the play calling with 3 minutes left and a 14 point lead 2nd n goal from the 8. Such a terribly alarming mind numbingly fucking assinine pattern happening.
OK I'm convinced

I learned from another source that the holding was at the 2 yard line. All I saw on my tv was that the flag was thrown by an official standing deep in the end zone. That was what made me believe that the holding was also in the end zone.

Good to know that other sources have a reliability factor so much higher than BBI. I completely understand. :)
