Basically that if there's no oversight that the game is rigged, and the leagues and those taking advertising money should really think twice about what's going on because they are condoning it. Went into the efforts around horse racing oversight and that hackers are still trying to beat the system today (paramutual wagering). Both companies have declined to appear on the show.
He's right in this case - if you work for a CIB, you have to any stock purchases you want to make into a Compliance system to ensure you are not trading on privileged or proprietary information. Yet after millions on advertising and investment from ESPN and the NFL (Kraft and Jones are investors), there was no rule against playing in another daily league until the Times story. Baffling.
Best part is that Francesa took a subtle shot at the rest of his station, saying he didn't take money from them when others did (Beningo & Roberts, Carton).
Having the writer on now about the article.

is a real piece of shit, huh?
Because she made a tasteless joke?
Yeah, maybe if she said it to a couple friends and not to the whole world on Twitter. Someone who does that doesn't get sympathy from me. She likely means it.
Some degree of hate? Really? You think that dumbass comment is "hate"? And it was serious enough that she should lose her job, get death threats, etc?
No, you're just a hysteric who's blowing something exceedingly minor completely out of proportion.
Hysterics will come out in a couple weeks if Syracuse doesn't beat UVA.
One is played among friends and co-workers, usually for minimal money and for bragging rights - the money and number of participants immaterial.
The other is organized gambling, with no more skill involved than picking teams and spreads.
We barely squeaked by Bill & Bitch, who aren't even all that good in FCS. A unranked Boise State completely humiliated us on our home field. The team is finally quitting on Detective Mike - have you heard that he used to be a cop? Dear god I wish he had never left the force to go into coaching.
Of course, the path my life has followed is probably a cautionary tale for what happens then, so I guess I was screwed either way.
Now, I can see a case for Jerry Jones and Danny Snyder not having a clue, but he ignores all the money Kraft has in Draft Kings...and how does he forget about the Maras (who grew up in the shadow of Racing at the Meadowlands, and who spent a lot of their time in Albany scooting up to Saratoga), and most importantly the Rooney family...all four brothers have owned race tracks!!!

that's 2 out of 32. Most of them don't care as long as it puts money in their pockets
Yet another reason to fire Goddell
Do you have the same intensity towards the erectile dysfunction ads?

I'm just sick and tired of the pervasive, insidious and constant ads all over every bit of sports content. I don't spend time watching regular tv, so when I'm watching sports, all I get is hammered over the head with draftkings. Enough already.

I dislike drug ads too, but I think the gambling stuff has been incredibly overdone this year. It's not even close to me.

The first time I'm watching analysis on ESPN or the NFLN, and they integrate a Viagra ad with who they think today's fantasy players are going to be, that's when I'll put them in the same category.
Coming soon...
"This week's fantasy sleepers is being brought to you by Viagra.

so an old man is ranting about a website? AFTER the news of insider abuse of information breaks? Really compelling.
mmm, this is a bigger story than that.
I know. Was more commenting on the fact that the thread is Francesa going off on these sites. The Sports Pope criticizing them at this point is meaningless. These sites are done or their customers are beyond stupid.
He lost it during one ad read where they said they were partners with MLB.
Here's the read. It's pretty good. Bill Burr Ad Read (NSFW language) - ( New Window )
Wow, that is a great link. You gotta love Burr, he basically demolishes his own sponsor

that i'm shocked the NFL is aligning themselves with these sites. For as protective of their brand that they are, I can't see the ad revenue being worth it for them. These sites are going down and its only a matter of time.
Worth noting that DraftKings is heavily backed by Bob Kraft.
All the more reason to root for their demise. I agree with others on this thread. The NFL should not be involved as not only is this gambling, but it's fixed.
However, the greedy NFL knows where its bread is buttered and it's Fantasy Football. I would love the FF house of cards to fall as I'm tired of hearing about it and I'm tired of the impact it has on sports programming.

That was actually a very sad deal. I feel for her. She made a stupid remark and paid dearly. Her story is worth checking out if you're interested.
It was a mob mentality at the time that destroyed someone's life. Public bashing/shaming is actually a thing. Link - ( New Window )
Damn. That was rough. This should be required reading for anyone that uses social media.

and Fantasy Football in general. Am I alone?
definitely not alone
I stopped playing fantasy football about five years ago and don't miss it one bit. The time and energy I once put into seems silly now and I enjoy football more not caring about individual player performances.

If they get their hands on the account activity of the employees I think this really blows up. Apparently executives and employees all played on the other company's site and cleaned up. The big winner that keeps getting mentioned has some unreal win-rate in fantasy baseball. The thing that sticks out is that he used to play before he worked for the company and never won. Now he wins constantly.
Nice to see Craig Carton - a paid spokesperson for Fanduel - give a defense of the company today and claiming it's not gambling but a game of skill because the big pot was one due to the Seahawks/Lions fumble. Completely ignoring the data leak, etc.

Daily fantasy’s day of reckoning is nigh. In addition to two congressional committees (the House Energy and Commerce Committee and House Judiciary Committee) and a federal agency (the FTC) looking into various parts of the industry, news broke tonight that the New York attorney general has opened a probe into the two players that control daily fantasy, DraftKings and FanDuel.

Looks like it's already out: "DraftKings employees reportedly won nearly $6 million playing daily fantasy sports at rival FanDuel"

Most of the top sharks on DFS-- the ones who play hundred of lineups-- are grinders and their goal is a positive ROI. The common number that players aim for in 50/50 contests is a 60% winning percentage which comes out to a 7-8% ROI after the site takes its cut.
Many of these top players who have reportedly won several million dollars have also spent several million dollars entering these contests.
When the "net" winnings and their ROIs are reported, then it'll be noteworthy.

I cannot understand how there is a market for these commercials. It's probably the same people who love the Big Bang Theory.

I've read a few articles with "professional DFS players" who generally have said they make about 6%.
I hope they regulate DFS a little better, but find a way to avoid banning it altogether.
