Basically that if there's no oversight that the game is rigged, and the leagues and those taking advertising money should really think twice about what's going on because they are condoning it. Went into the efforts around horse racing oversight and that hackers are still trying to beat the system today (paramutual wagering). Both companies have declined to appear on the show.
He's right in this case - if you work for a CIB, you have to any stock purchases you want to make into a Compliance system to ensure you are not trading on privileged or proprietary information. Yet after millions on advertising and investment from ESPN and the NFL (Kraft and Jones are investors), there was no rule against playing in another daily league until the Times story. Baffling.
Best part is that Francesa took a subtle shot at the rest of his station, saying he didn't take money from them when others did (Beningo & Roberts, Carton).
Having the writer on now about the article.
Nope. I love the sport. Played one year for free with my son but what a waste of time. And their commercials are starting to annoy me. Every other one it seems
The same business that will ban players for life for gambling wants you to sign up and not-gamble with their daily fantasy sports game. with money.
"RIGHT THERE!"
Having said that, I agree with Greg. I don't feel for the suckers who lose money at it.
It was a mob mentality at the time that destroyed someone's life. Public bashing/shaming is actually a thing.

Yes. When something that wasn't funny the first time is thrown in your face for the hundredth time...well.
That was a fascinating story. Someone (Dunedin81?) posted it here a while ago, and it prompted a very thought-provoking discussion.

that i'm shocked the NFL is aligning themselves with these sites. For as protective of their brand that they are, I can't see the ad revenue being worth it for them. These sites are going down and its only a matter of time.
The NFL is not protective of their brand. They are protective of their cut of the action. They would license their brand for toilet paper and outhouses if they got paid for it.
Under Goodell, the NFL has become an extremely greedy entity. They view themselves as upstanding citizens and expect their players to be that way, but can't live themselves in that regard.

That was actually a very sad deal. I feel for her. She made a stupid remark and paid dearly. Her story is worth checking out if you're interested.

Here it is again. Social media is largely comprised of useless, spiteful losers.

Actually i did earlier this year. But there are numerous stories that this happened to that we all have forgotten about. I've linked a podcast from NPR about this phenomenon.

No, she's just someone who had her life ruined by an awkward attempt at humor. Here's what the guy who ruined her life had to say after finally getting to meet her in person:
But it's awesome to judge people we don't know because of something they said in social media and turn them into monster to prove what righteous warriors we are.

Because she made a tasteless joke?
Yeah, maybe if she said it to a couple friends and not to the whole world on Twitter. Someone who does that doesn't get sympathy from me. She likely means it.
Some degree of hate? Really? You think that dumbass comment is "hate"? And it was serious enough that she should lose her job, get death threats, etc?
No, you're just a hysteric who's blowing something exceedingly minor completely out of proportion.
Hysterics will come out in a couple weeks if Syracuse doesn't beat UVA.
One is played among friends and co-workers, usually for minimal money and for bragging rights - the money and number of participants immaterial.
The other is organized gambling, with no more skill involved than picking teams and spreads.
We barely squeaked by Bill & Bitch, who aren't even all that good in FCS. A unranked Boise State completely humiliated us on our home field. The team is finally quitting on Detective Mike - have you heard that he used to be a cop? Dear god I wish he had never left the force to go into coaching.
Of course, the path my life has followed is probably a cautionary tale for what happens then, so I guess I was screwed either way.
